170427 @star1 Magazine K.A.R.D Interview: Following Roo’ra, Cool, Koyote, S#arp, Next thing is K.A.R.D (Photoshoot + Interview)
Q. The outfits are wonderful. Is this the magazine photoshoot (they’ve done)? BM: Its my first time so its interesting. Since it came out very cool, I’m satisfied. It feels like BM. At home, I’m just Kim Matthew. JW: I really like this type of style. Whenever, I practice I can’t wear these types of clothes, but since this is a style I like it feels comfortable and fun to wear.
Q. You haven’t formally debuted, but the overseas reaction is hot. Don’t Recall was on the iTunes main chart and the music video also blew up. SM: We didn’t imagine this much interest. I’m not even sure if it I realize it yet. I am satisfied and happy and hope to show a better self. BM: I still hasn’t hit me at all. Since I’m from LA, my friends for the states tell me that KARD is hot right now. They take a picture of our music video on the screen. That was interesting.
Q. KARD is also confirmed for overseas tour. What is KARD’s charm that fans can connect to? BM: For fun, I said for us to do a “World Tour”, but since it is becoming reality, I’m surprised. I think we can connect through the music’s genre. The members unique colors and honest and natural self I think are one of the reasons. JS: Seeing the pictures of fans lining up to buy our tickets were unbelievable. I didn’t believe it was our fans since I don’t know our fans. I even expanded the pictures one by one. (laughs)
Q. Are there many domestic fans that recognize you too, now? BM: In the Itaewon train, one guy fan said “It’s BM.” and “I’m a huge KARD fan”. And we kept talking. Between Oh NaNa and Don’t Recall, I asked which one he liked better and he said he liked Don’t Recall better. I said it was the same for me. I thought I should keep a signed CD with me from now on. I really wanted to give him one.
Q. The name K.A.R.D is very unique. What did you feel when you first heard it. SM: At first I laughed. When I think of Kard, I think of bus card or check card. However, as I keep hearing it, I think it fits our team's color. There is a feeling of dignity.
Q. How you feel debuting as a co-ed group. JS: I was half in doubt and half entertained. But, we have to break the mold. When I thought of the feeling of happiness if we become big, I though of it as a opportunity. JW: I hesitated at first. I ignored the fact it was a co-ed group. After the first meeting, I gave it some thought then I heard the song and it was really good. It was so close to the type of music I wanted t do, so I immediately agreeded.
Q. Jeon Somin was from April. I think there would be a difference between a girl group and co-ed group. SM: Before I showed a bright and cute charm for my age group, but now I’m showing a more matured self. Please anticipate.
Q. BM and J. Seph got pretty younger sisters while Somin and Jiwoo both got reliable older brothers. BM: Actually, the younger girls take care of us more. Sometimes they feel like older sisters. Honestly, the guys just have to do better. Even when we don’t make a mistake, we hear nagging. But, it is nagging that we need to hear. JW: The guy’s manners are really good. They take care of the blankets(*that go over their legs when wearing skirts*) or the clothes and water. Since they’re older than my real brother, I feel like I have an even older brother so I feel more reliable.
Q. If a co-ed group had a pro and con.. JW: We can show different and more new colors. There really isn’t con, other than when we have to change clothes.
Q. In the team, I think there would be some sort of talk about dating. Is there no chance? ALL: Absolutely none. JW: Since the start of this photoshoot concept, our faces had to be really close. I was so surprised. (laughs) JS: Overall, our ideal types aren’t that close.
Q. Then, what type of style do you like? JS: I like Park Siyeon. I’m not comparing her with my members though. SM: I think anyone, but J. Seph is good. (laughs). I don’t really have an ideal type, but I like a manly personality.
Q. After debuting, a eniuor that you really want to meet? JW: There are so many seniors that I repect. I wantto meet with Lee Hyori and Beyonce. I’ll be good with just watching their performance. I even have a clear video of Beyonce saved on my phone. BM: Park Jaebeom is the number 1. I actually met him before and it was really an honor.
Q. As a co-ed group, what is the most reliable aspect? SM: The alley of our practice place is scary.I feel safer walking together in the evening. When it's really late, they (not specified who) bring me all the way to the station. JS: I sometimes go astray and my donsaengs who are next to me, try to hold me back. At first I thought of it as nagging, but not anymore. But, whenever I don't put back the mics I use, they nag me to put it away.
Q. Something that you were disappointed at as your experience in this group. SM: I want to be together, but J. Seph likes being alone. He watches movies alone, listens to music alone, and practices alone. Last time, I was with him. I left for awhile, but when I came back he wasn’t there and never came back. When I went outside to see, I saw him with another person so I was disappointed. JS: I said I was sorry five times. It wasn’t even five times at the same time. I said sorry here, then once again over there, like that. But, Somin doesn’t play with me when I asked her to. I think the timing doesn’t match.
Q. When you first heard Oh Na Na and Don’t Recall, how did you first feel. BM: Immediately “Crazy”. Oh Nana was perfect, but when I first heard Don’t Recall’s beat, I went “wow”. JW: I practice Don’t Recall after listening to it and wanted to record, but it was the weekend. JS: Listening to Don’t Recall, from the beginning until end, I got goosebumps.
Q. You company senior Heo Youngji featured in Oh Na Na. JW: Youngji unni is really bright and a happy person. At that time we were really tired. But, Youngji unni provided us with energy during that time. BM: Whereever she goes, she is a vitamin. Her energy is the best. Since she has experience, she gives us advice.
Q. The time of your debut isn’t complete set yet. When it is, what is the thing you want to do the most. SM: I want to go on YHY Sketchbook. BM: I want to appear in a show like Mnet’s "Hit the Stage”. JS: I want to do a domestic tour. Seoul, Daejeon, Daegu, Busan, to Jeju Island. JW: I want to do a fan sign. I want more opportunities to see fans up close. Fanmeetings are good to, but fansigns are closer.
Q. What type of singer do you want to be? Also what will be KARD’s next hidden card. JW: A one of a kind singer. SM: Being able to show many things is our hidden card. Each of our charms are different. When together, that will cause a great effect.
Q. The fans are waiting until their necks fall. One word for your fans. JW: I’m kinda nervous. (laugh) We’ll create more chances to see you so please wait a little longer. BM: Thank you for waiting and expecting us. On stage, we’ll show a playful KARD. We’ll come to your city soon. JS: How much you have been waiting, we will return it just as much by working and preparing hard. Thank you for loving us. SM: Since we are receiving a lot of love internationally and domestically, we have happily preparing every single day. From now on please give us lots of interest and love. Thank you.
