The days seemed as though they were passing agonizingly slow. You tried your hardest to keep yourself busy between work and other things. At the beginning of the week, you heard a knock on your office door, and in walked none other than Savanna with a small black box with a silver bow wrapped around it and a dozen roses in hand.
“What is that?” You pointed to the flowers and box nestled in between her hands. Savanna glanced between the items and you, a gentle chuckle erupting from her mouth.
“I think you know who.” She walked over and handed them to you.
Nestled in between the bow was a small piece of paper You picked it up carefully and turned over the paper, identifying the sender… and the actual note itself.
You’ll always have a piece of me with you. This may be a little cliché, but I don’t think you’ll mind. I did tell you to accent your dress with gold that night. xo Tommy
You carefully untied the bow and opened the box, a gasp leaving from your lips at the sight.
Nestled in the black velvet necklace with a solid gold necklace with the letter T hanging off the chain. Savanna was over your shoulder, her eyes glistening.
“Yup,” She clicked her tongue. “He’s trying to prepare you.” She rubbed your shoulders gently.
“Will you put it on me?” You asked her to which she gladly smiled, holding out her hand for the jewelry. She clasped it around your neck, the coolness of the chain sending shivers down your spine. You smiled, holding the pendant in between your fingers, your eyes closing. You could only imagine what Tom looked like. You were so ready to see him.
“T as in Troy?” Savanna chuckled, making you roll your eyes at her reference to High School Musical.
“Shut up!” You hissed, smiling like an idiot. “I love it.”
Savanna smiled and grabbed your bouquet of roses, nestling them in a vase that was stashed in the corner of your office. “I’ll go grab you some water for these.” She winked, leaving the room. You pressed your back into your leather chair, your head spinning.
You picked up your phone, sending Tom a text.
You are so perfect, Tommy. Thank you so much. I absolutely adore the necklace and the roses.
Pressing send, you exited out of your text messages with him and went over to your conversation with Megan. You two had spoken briefly. She had come home last night for a little while, but then she got up and disappeared again. You presumed she went to work, as you knew she was busy with her upcoming movie. But you still felt semi-horrible for what went down last week.
Deciding to take a step closer to her, you wanted her to know that you were still there.
Hey, I know I’m not who you want to talk to right now, but I wanted to see if we could grab lunch together on Friday? I really miss you… plus I need to tell you something. Tommy and I are meeting Saturday.
Sending the message, your phone immediately alerted you with a text.
Anything for you, love. I cannot wait for Saturday. I feel like a teenager again.
Smiling to yourself, the banner came across your phone that had Megan’s name.
I’m sorry, too. Work has been crazy, so I haven’t been home. Lunch sounds great. 1 pm sound good? I’m so glad you two are finally meeting. Hopefully, this guy isn’t a total creep.
Maybe the world was starting to fall back into place. Maybe now your life would become somewhat normal again.
Sounds perfect… and yeah, I hope he isn’t.
You sent the text and hurried back to yours and Tom’s messages.
Me too. So my last guess before Saturday is… Hancock. Thomas William Hancock.
Savanna walked back into your office with the flowers and placed them on your desk. You grinned, thanking her.
“Alright, I’ve got a conference call with these partners. Let me know if you need anything? Want to go out for drinks later?” She winked. You smirked, nodding quickly. Alcohol sounded great.
She exited again and your phone buzzed.
Darling, believe it or not, you got the first two names right. Still, you lack the last name. But I won’t hold it against you anymore.
Laughing to yourself, you closed your phone and went back to work.
The days continued to strongly and annoyingly pass by slowly, but then Friday hit. You awoke that morning and Savanna said you could leave work early if you wish. One o’clock was the time designated for you and Megan to meet for lunch, which happened to be a café you two had discovered walking downtown one day. She persisted for you two to try it and one thing you simply adored was their iced coffee. It was amazing.
You put on a pair of dark jeans with a white blouse and your royal blue blazer. Your shoes were a pair of boots you had recently purchased with the opinion of Savanna saying you would absolutely stunt in them. Your hair was fixed to perfection, your makeup subtle, but cute. Being a businesswoman meant you tried to look the part of the public any time you could.
Okay, you’re lying. Half of the time you were in public wearing sweats with a messy bun and a t-shirt that probably had a stain on it from when you cooked spaghetti, but today was a special occasion. You were trying to rekindle with your best friend and let her know that you were beyond sorry for how you treated her. In all actuality, you were the one to throw the first blows when you said her boobs were fake.
Low blow. Although it was hilarious in your head, you conceived the premise that you were in the wrong. Even if your eyebrows were called out to be tattooed, which you had only done once.
Okay, maybe twice…. Alright, alright, three times.
Dabbing some of your favorite perfume to your wrists and neck, you nervously grabbed the necklace Tom had gifted you, twirling your fingers around the golden T. You called it a done deal when you placed your RayBans over your eyes and quickly exited out of the house to your car.
You’ll always have a piece of me with you, You heard Tom’s voice in your head. Although written, you could imagine that accent saying those exact words into your ear and you craved his touch on your body.
Driving to the café was filled with your thoughts. You chose to drive in silence, as your every crashing thought was on him. You desperately wanted the day to be over with but knew as soon as you awoke tomorrow morning, your life would drastically change. You would finally come face-to-face with the man who captivated your heart by storm and wasn’t prone to letting go.
As you made it into downtown, you spotted Megan’s car and instantly parked near it. She was sitting inside still, her phone at eye level. She gazed up when she heard your door close and offered you a soft smile. Stepping out of her car, you two walked up to each other, Megan’s arms instantly coming out to embrace you.
“I am so sorry,” She apologized immediately upon embracing you. “We are such idiots.” She hissed, pulling back to stare at you. You smiled, shaking your head.
“I think best friends will have disagreements. The important thing is, we recover.” You hooked your arm through hers as you two made your way inside the café. Megan was already known by the staff and once they saw you on her arm, the waiter immediately grinned.
“Your usual table, ladies?”
You two stole a glance at one another, each of you nodding your head in approval. The café properly named the Sunny Café, had the cutest atmosphere. It was chic, but so warming, so inviting. Yours and Megan’s usual spot was always in a booth, right near the window. You would always sit where you could see the doors, while Megan enjoyed having her back turned to the majority of the public.
As a waiter approached you to get your order for drinks, Megan ordered her usual, water with lemon, while you opted for your iced coffee with an extra shot of espresso. You lived and breathed caffeine, especially with your workload.
“Is that a gift from Tommy?” Megan pointed her attention to your necklace. You grinned, tucking a strand of hair behind your ear, absentmindedly reaching to twiddle your fingers around it.
“Yeah,” You smiled. “He sent it to my work at the beginning of this week along with a bouquet of roses.”
Megan smiled an actual heartfelt smile.
“Listen, I really am sorry. I just don’t want you to get hurt is all. You’re about to be a little dangerous, meeting a guy you’ve never laid eyes on, who is as old as he is, and with no actual background on him…” She trailed, the waiter placing your drinks beside you. You two quickly put in your food orders and you turned your attention fully to her, sipping the flavored coffee.
“I know,” You stated. And you did. Your mind was racked with the possibility of something going extremely wrong, but for some reason, you knew well within your soul that Tom wasn’t going to be this maniac serial killer, ready to abduct you. He was going to be who he said he was with no strings attached. “I’m crazy.”
Megan laughed, shaking her head.
“You’re not crazy. I just know you. Once your heart’s in it, there’s no stopping you.”
You sighed, deciding to tell her about Liam.
“Liam called me the other night.” You announced and Megan’s eyes turned narrow.
“Why?” She asked in an all too defensive tone that irked you just a bit.
You shrugged. “Said he needed to really talk to me about something, but I wouldn’t listen. I blocked his number.”
Megan nodded, bringing the iced water to her lips. She picked out the lemon and squeezed it into the icy liquid, not meeting your eyes.
“Don’t you dare think about entertaining that fool,” She hissed.
You nodded.
“And how’s Tom?” You questioned in reference to Hiddleston. Again, Megan wouldn’t meet your eyes, her fingers still intertwining the lemon.
“He’s fine,” She stated.
“Trouble in paradise?” You prodded.
Megan finally looked at you through thick lashes.
“Nope,” She smiled, clasping her hands together. “Everything’s perfect.”
You knew it was a lie. And trying to be an actual representation of a best friend, you offered your ears.
“Listen, I know it’s been rocky for us these last few weeks, but if something’s wrong, you can tell me.”
That’s when Megan’s face returned to its all known pissy look. She glared at you and half-smiled.
“How about we leave Tom out of this? Because every time we talk about him, we start fighting thanks to your jealousy.”
Low blow.
“Jealousy? Megan, I have my own possible boyfriend.”
Megan scoffed.
“Here you are, ladies,” The waiter said, placing your designated dishes in front of you. You thanked him as Megan quickly stabbed her fork into the piece of steak that was covering her salad.
“Yeah, which has taken you how long to meet? Exactly.” She stated, biting the food with as much anger as she could muster. You grumbled, shaking your head.
“I’m not arguing with you. We can drop it.” You affirmed, paying attention to your own plate of mouth-watering food.
As you two began to eat, people were chattering away. You saw as different people walked in and out of the café with delicious goodies nestled in small bags, some getting iced coffees, others getting ready to leave. Megan’s face was somewhat softening so you chose to remain quiet and enjoy your salad. Tossing back a piece of chicken, you heard the bell above the door ding, signaling someone was walking inside the Sunny’s.
Being the people observer you were, you quickly noted the dark sunglasses covering his eyes. He was wearing a white button-up with a pair of black dress pants and a pair of suede boots. His hair was short, somewhat blonde with dark hues in some areas, and man was he tall.
He looked to be about six foot two and you were obsessed with his image. He looked as if he had just stepped off the cover of a GQ magazine for Sexiest Man Alive.
You watched as he walked gracefully up to the counter and you couldn’t help but ease into listening.
“Just a large coffee, straight black.” His accent was thick and he sounded amazing. You immediately depicted it as British. It reminded you of your Tommy who you hadn’t spoken to all day. As the darling man turned to the side gently, his sunglasses were off and tucked inside the opening of his shirt. His jawline was perfected, his eyes a dazzling blue and that was from all the way where you were sitting.
“Who on earth are you staring at?” Megan suddenly cut in, her back facing the man.
The gentleman surveyed the room and his eyes cast over your table but didn’t linger for long.
And it was then.
You realized.
“Oh my God,” You whispered. “I-It’s-,”
It was Tom Hiddleston.
As soon as the thought had escaped your mind, you heard a young woman shout.
“Tom Hiddleston!”
It was then Megan’s eyes widened and she immediately turned, her own pair of eyes settling on him.
You heard her fork fall against the plate and she placed her folded napkin on the table, taking one more sip of her water.
“What the hell are you doing?!” You asked as she shoved her chair back.
“He and I are about to have a talk.” She said viciously.
Just as the younger woman had screamed, Tom turned her way, his eyes widening.
Poor guy. It was then everyone started to swarm and you watched as Megan started pushing herself through the crowd that was beginning to gather.
“Tom!” Megan’s voice rang loud and it was then Tom’s eyebrows furrowed in confusion. You curse under your breath, your heart rate rapidly increasing at the situation. Was it the coffee? Or the anxiety? Or both?
You needed to go pull Megan out of there or else this was about to become bad.
As your anxiety grew in the pit of your stomach and your throat felt tight, you reached for your phone out of your pocket, desperately needing to talk to Tom.
Hey, the craziest thing is happening right now. Can you talk?
You pressed send and patiently waited for his response. You knew he was over with interviews, as he said they ended yesterday. He was only supposed to be busy from Tuesday until Thursday.
The crowd was getting closer to them and that’s when you heard Megan’s voice boom and a guy managed to jump up from his table, a camera in his hand.
Paparazzi.
“You seriously think you can go this whole time without a single text? Tom, I thought that night we had meant something to you!” Her voice screeched and suddenly, your brain put into motion what you were hearing.
Megan hadn’t spoken to Tom since that night they were together.
“I’m sorry, you must have the wrong man,” Tom responded to her, your eyes widening by the second. Quickly, you double texted Tommy.
Tommy? Please answer me, I think I’m about to be sick. Tom Hiddleston just walked into this café we’re in and Megan’s over there screaming in his face and I don’t know what to do.
You sent the next message and heard a series of dings alerting people's phones. You gasped and took a massive gulp from your coffee, your heart feeling as though it were about to explode from your chest.
With each passing minute, Megan’s voice only grew louder and your palms grew sweatier.
“The wrong guy? That’s not what you were saying while we were having sex! Am I seriously just a one-night stand to you?”
You glanced at your phone, desperately hoping to see Tom’s name appear, but it never did.
Tom! Please! This is an emergency, call me!
You heard a ding within the café, this one being single and not from every other person’s phone. When it kept reading delivered, you decided to say screw it and call.
As you pressed call, you almost felt yourself begin to lose the ability to breathe.
The café somehow began to grow quiet as pictures of Tom and Megan were continuously being taken. The line rang and rang until you heard it, you picked it out from the deafening silence.
Someone’s phone was ringing.
At that very moment, you gazed up and met his eyes. His phone was in his hand. Tom glanced between you and the phone, his own eyes growing wide with horror, realization.
Your blood ran cold.
Oh. My. God.
You grasped the T around your neck and Tom’s eyes were on you the whole time, Megan’s screams erupting full force again.
“Why in the hell do you keep looking at her?!” She screamed, turning her shoulder. Megan zeroed in on you and it clicked. “She’s not going to save you.”
Oh, it freaking clicked.
Megan looked at Tom’s right hand which had his phone in a vice grip, seeing your name on his caller ID, then she looked at you who was clenching the necklace that was around your neck. She looked between you two and started laughing.
“You have got to be kidding me,” She snarled. “Tom…” She looked up at Tom who was still eyeing you. “Tommy.” She glared back at you, pointing her index finger directly at you.
She then turned to the numerous phones that were lifted, videotaping the entire scene.
“So that’s the reason why you never texted me. You were cheating on me with that bitch.”
Tom looked back at Megan.
“Megan, we,” - Megan held her hand up.
“There you have it, folks! Tom Hiddleston and Megan Grimes? Broken up because of none other than that scheming, vial, horrible slut, (Y/N) (Y/L/N)!”
Tears flooded your eyes. The person who had captivated your heart, made you feel so alive, was none other than Tom Hiddleston. The signs were there the entire time. He told you who he was without literally saying it.
And now as you stood there, everyone’s attention fell onto you and the cameras were pointed directly at your face. Your 'best friend' had officially severed all ties with you as she dragged you to her level. Tear-stained, mascara running, you hurriedly pushed yourself past everyone.
Still noticing you had your grip on the necklace, you snatched it off of your neck, throwing it onto the ground as you weaved through the flood of people.
Your shoulder ran directly into Tom’s and tears streamed down your face as you exited. You could hear the footsteps of everyone following behind you, more paparazzi suddenly appearing on the street corner. News traveled fast.
Your chest clenched in utter pain as you raced to your car.
“(Y/N), wait!” You heard Tom’s voice scream for you as you got inside the car, hurriedly turning it over and racing down the streets of Hollywood.
Desperately needing someone, you dialed Savanna’s number who instantly answered.
“Hey, killer, what’s up?”
“Savanna!” You cried. “I-I need you, please!”
“Whoa, whoa, what’s going on? Are you okay?”
Your eyes blurred with hot tears, making it hard to see.
“Tommy? He’s Tom Hiddleston. A-And, I feel like I’m going to die!” You cried harder, sniffling. “Megan made a scene, she called me a b-bitch, and told everyone I’m the reason h-her and Tom broke up!”
You heard Savanna’s low growl on the other line.
“I’ll meet you at your place. Please drive safely. I’m leaving work right now.”
She hung up the phone and you headed in the direction of your home.
This has taken a drastic turn.
As you drove, you couldn’t wrap your head around it.
The man you were in love with? Massive celebrity. Tom Hiddleston.
Your life was about to become dramatic... crazy.
