Once Upon A Time: My English 1 Journey

According to Franz Kafka, a novelist, writing is “an utter solitude, the descent into the cold abyss of oneself.” For me, writing is the process of communicating and expressing one’s profound ideas. When I write, I can explain all my thoughts and opinions which I cannot say directly in front of another person. Also, writing is freedom because I think there is no such thing as generally accepted writing principles. I can always write what I want to write and no one can stop me from doing so.

English 1 helped me to improve my writing skills, to begin with. It has ignited the fire within me and it has awaken the writer in me. First, English 1 helped me to develop my vocabulary by having a word of the day. Second, it helped me to enhance my grammar. Every time that I write, I always check if my grammar is in proper usage. Third, it helped me to write a first-rate paragraph by discussing the different qualities of a good paragraph. Lastly, English 1 helped me to become more confident to share my writings to others without being timid.

In my past experiences in writing, I admit that it was not that good. My writings before were mediocre.  In my previous years in writing, my grammar and my writing style was sometimes so-so but oftentimes, it was horrible. Before, my writings were as bad as people would ever imagine. But now, hah, I can write a good-quality paragraph. Well, at least I thought so. Thanks to English 1. Seriously though, I can say that my writings really improved. My vocabulary became alright. My grammar and my writing skills became more acceptable compared to my past writings.

I think my passion in writing is what have really helped me to improve in writing. It is my eagerness to write something that is valuable. In addition, I stand up for my beliefs and convictions. It is the reason why I write keenly, for I am willing to unveil my opinions through writing. Moreover, my willingness to learn and to strive for more helped me to improve my writing skills.

To sum it up, English 1 gave me umpteen learnings. Furthermore, it wouldn’t be any easier for me to learn these lessons without the help of Ms. Elsie Albis, my teacher. English 1 helped me to become a better writer. It keeps me wanting to write for more.

When Procrastination Happens

“Today I don’t feel like doing anything, I just wanna lay in my bed.” One word to elucidate that line from “The Lazy Song” of Bruno Mars – PROCRASTINATION. Procrastination has several negative effects that make people’s lives more complicated. First, procrastination leads to cramming. This is commonly practiced or done by students. A lot of students don’t maximize their time in studying; rather, they will procrastinate and when the exam time came, especially on the last minute before the exam, they become frantic. Second, the result of a work is not so good. The quality of the outcome becomes mediocre because of lack of preparation to do the task. In addition, the “to-do” list is pending when people procrastinate. If a person delays something that should be done, soon it will result to loads of work to do. Lastly, time is wasted when procrastination takes place. Procrastination is time consuming and it will delay people to do their job and also it can be a cause to disrupt their ability to become successful. All in all, procrastination is such a bad act that has several negative effects to humans. The question is, why do people keep on procrastinating if they can do it right-away? Why make lives more complicated?

Convictions about Forever

Our generation is obsessed with the word forever. It is quite obscure that we decided to ponder about it. My friend and I have similar and different convictions about forever. First similarity is that we both believe that there’s such thing as forever. We have this opinion that time doesn’t end here on earth. Yes, our time on earth has its boundaries; however, the time will leave us and will continue its journey. In addition, we both define forever as an eternal, long-lasting, and something that is sempiternal idea of time. Moreover, we believe that forever is timeless, for it has no beginning nor an end. But when it comes to the question whether we like the idea of forever or not, our opinions differ. I don’t like the idea of forever because people cling to the concept of forever as time that is never ending, so they anticipate that there is more time for them to do things. In fact, our life does end and our chances are not like forever. On the contrary, my partner likes the idea of forever because she believes that the existence of our mark will not fade and it will not be forgotten, for it is in the sand of time. To sum it up, our thoughts and our beliefs about forever may have similarities but we have differences when it comes to some aspects of forever.

A smile can be classified by the way it is shown by a person. It can be categorized into three groups: fake, normal, and authentic. The fake smile can be identified when a person tries to smile even though he or she is not happy. A fake smile can easily be recognized when a certain person’s eyes show different emotions. A person who uses a fake smile is called “eccedentesiast.” The second classification, the normal smile, is the usual smile. This type of smile is probably customary because it is commonly practiced or used by people. A person who uses a normal smile can be called a “normie.” Lastly, theauthentic smile is the type of smile that is rarely shown. When a person smiles, and it has reached his or her eyes with a joyful expression, it shows a real smile. A person who smiles authentically can be called “diamond person” because an authentic diamond can rarely be found. To sum it up, smiles may be classified into different types which may help in knowing whether a person is an eccedentesiast, a normie, or a diamond person.

Love (?)

Love, as defined in the Oxford Dictionary, “is an intense feeling of deep affection” Also, according to Abira Mukhejee, love is “the most beautiful feeling in the world.” To make a devil’s advocate, love is just a socially constructed idea that people are so obsessed with. People created love out of perception and now, it has become a phenomenon of the society. For instance, teenagers nowadays often think that they are in love but in fact, they are just infatuated. In addition, other people say that love is when their heart is beating so fast. Love is when they feel the butterflies in their stomach. Love is when they feel that “sparks” in their body. Another example that proves love is just socially constructed is that people fall in love because of physical beauty and characteristics of a certain person. These people created love instead of really falling in love. Furthermore, most people say that they love a person, but this love eventually vanishes as time passes by. In conclusion, love is just a socially constructed idea. We are deluded by movies and novels to believe in the illusions of love. We are forced to believe in the foolish hoaxes about love.
