Katastrofiballadi (Catastrophe ballad) is a comic based on my indie book series of the same name. Books are only in Finnish but the comic will be in English.

Katastrofiballadi takes place in fictional Finland which has broken into city states. It is a weird fucking satire story.

NOTE THAT THIS BLOG IS FOR ADULTS ONLY (18+)

Less because of the stuff I will be putting here (like no str8 up nsfw) and more for my peace of mind. I have horrible case of ocd and if I wish to tell horrible sex jokes / post bit spicier stuff I want to do that without panicking

If I notice a minor following this blog I will yeet u out. No hard feelings and ur welcome back when ur 18, just want to make a safe space for myself.

TRIGGER LIST

Katastrofiballadi is over all pretty light hearted and funny but does deal with dark stuff time to time. The series has several books with different warnings but I've tried to list the most relevant ones here

-Death, violence, blood, some gore

-Mental illness (including stuff like alcoholism)

-Swearing. A lot of swearing (swears will always be in Finnish tho. Unless it is me swearing and I will do that in all the languages I know. So 2)

-Sexual themes (no sex on page tho)

-Bigotry (mostly focusing on queerphobia and ableism since those are things I am familiar with. There will be some subtle forms of racism happening mostly in the background (like everyone but one person in the government being white ect) since it would feel weird to write a story like Katastrofiballadi and totally ignore race but I won't be going deeper into that since I am whitest person ever and want to focus on stuff I know. If you are looking for stories that handle discrimination of poc people more always go for poc creators.

-Abuse in its different forms (sa is only implied in the first book but second one will deal with it more.)

Meet one of the main characters!

Berta Lim

(If u have read the books you know that their name was originally Aarniotaival but wanted to give them Korean one)

-in their 50s

-they/them (tho I still sometimes use wrong pronouns since I just switched their pronouns to match mine and I still misgender myself too lmao)

-Nonbinary of some kind (uses more fem terms than masc), aroace

-Autistic as fuck

-Communist and tired

-part of their city states government but is VERY much hated there. Actually hated by most people even those who agree with their politics

-WEIRD relationship with the city states dictator. Berta seems to hate him, he seems sad about it and they have a long history that has started lot of rumors

-Difficult case all around but if they decide to like you they LIKE YOU and will be on your side (and you do want that)

-Autistic superpower of knowing when people lie

-When they meet a new person they decide right there and then if they like or hate them and that is hard to chance once their mind is made

FUN FACT!

Berta is a big reason of me realizing im trans so their gender always follow what my identity is.

I love that I at one point went "ok Berta has my gender so they are nonbinary" and then somehow didnt realize I was nonbinary???

Had to practice drawing horses just because 16 year old Sysi thought it would be hilarious to name a character Hevospoika and for that they needed a horse

Yeah its fucking easy when ur writing a book but IN COMIC U HAVE TO DRAW THE THING

Luckily Jolanta is always lowkey dying so i dont have to draw any crazy poses

I will have to design a new cover since i make these two into one book. Probably going to go more with the first ones palette since this book isnt THAT intense

I do like the second cover a lot more tho lol

I dont think I will go with the same idea for the cover tho. We shall see. I will most likely make place holder one and then later make the actual one like im doing with Jumalanpelko

Also there will be ENEMIES to lovers (or. Qpr) that is like. Fr enemies to lovers, no "i kinda dislike u because of a misundertanding" to lovers

Like murdes has been attempted multiple times

Just noting this now cause i know some people dont like stuff like that. But it is like. Very much a satire/comedy version of that and ur not supposed to take it that seriously

Its not in super big role in the first book but it is there and we shall focuse on it more later

I would love to slap past me for adding a horse in this story cause

1. now i have to learn how to draw horses. When u mostly draw cats and try to draw a horse IT SHOWS

2. Horse people will come for me. If ur a horse person and a horse in this story does something a horse wouldnt. Please dont kill me i am scared of horse people horse people are the most scary animal people there are they know no peace or love they only know horses

Meet Hevospoika!

-name translates to Horse boy

-not his real name believe it or not but he refuses to tell his name and this is what Myräkkä decides to call him. He isnt happy about it.

-he/him, cis man, bisexual and poly

-he is around 40 but looks a lot younger

-Mysterious but not in a cool way. Kinda just runs into Myräkkä and becomes her problem

-worst luck ever

-would REALLY want to find a phone. Does not find a phone.

-wet rag of a man

-angry, clearly traumatized, scared of everything

-if the environment is like. Normal he is actually very kind

-furry

-has a horse

Since Ruotola cats are more like humans I think I will make them swear. But in Finnish.

So let me give you a little "how to swear like a Finnish person" lesson:

-Vittu = vagina (used often like "fuck")

-Kyrpä = dick (but more intense)

-Perkele = devil

-Saatana = devil

-Helvetti = hell

-Paska = shit

-Hitto = very mild swear, kinda like "damn"

-Jumalauta = "god help me", used like "god damn it"

Also sometimes phrases will be all in Finnish like in the dedication page where "haista vittu" cause it would be weird to say "smell vittu"

Perhaps also stuff like "terve" (hello) "heippa" (bye bye) ect

I will translate them in comicfury every time they are used but most likely wont add translations on the pages themselves unless it is somehow super important

Fun fact Katastrofiballadi's working title was literally FOR YEARS Kommunistiseikkailu (communist adventure)

Often just called "Kommari" (commie)

I almost left it as that cause I could not come up with anything

I still do call it Kommari pretty often

Myräkkä!

-Name translates to "storm"

(But I personally see "myräkkä" more as a smaller storm. Annoying but not really dangerous. Just like this fucker)

-Also not her government name but only uses it

-she/her

-trans lady and the most str8 str8 person to ever str8

-in her early 20s

-ADHD queen

-There is no logical reason for this fucker to still be alive. Its the most unrealistic thing in this story

-Myräkkä is loud, lacks reason and respect and lies all the time. She isnt _STUPID_ but refuses to think

-would keep walking to the wall just so she doesnt have to admit that its not in fact a door

-can be charming if needed

-lives alone in forest and is a drunk

-she is so very fucked up and when her act slips u can see a kid who never really grew up

Going to show u the main characters and tell bit more about them!

This is Riitasointu

-Her name means "discord"

-often just called "Riita" ("argument" in english)

-It isnt her government name but she only uses it

-she/her, cis woman, grayromantic asexual

-in her early 20s

-She is extremely anxious and seems to be always almost crying.

-Stutters

-Always in survival mode.

-She is actually way funnier and sassier than it seems at first. When in right environment she is a dork

-Very much fears and doesnt trust authority

-She is sweet!

-BUT Riitasointu is no coward. She is smart and calculated and not afraid of getting her hands dirty. She would want the best for everyone but in the end is more interested in keeping herself and those closest to her safe.

FUN FACT!

Riita wasnt originally ace! But when I wrote her I was still a kid living my "im totally allo" era and I was SURE I had unlocked how romance REALLY WORKS and was so proud and my friends who read the text were like THIS IS HOW ROMANCE ACTUALLY WORKS U HAVE DONE IT and I was like I KNOW RIGHT

Once i figured that out I was like YEAH I SEE WHAT HAPPENED and planned to "fix it" and make her allo but decided against it. Now im way more happy with my identity and im glad she is aroace too

The first book is originally two books cause when I started writing them as a like. 16-17 year old autistic fuck I had no control over the amount of text I made

So i literally had to split it in two to make it possible to print

But since i will make them into a one comic book i will have to come up with something with the names

The first book is called "Kissa jonka uteliaisuus tappoi jo kerran" (Cat that curiosity already killed)

And the second "jänis joka löysi hampaansa" (Rabbit who found her fangs)

1. one referencing Myräkkä and 2. Riitasointu and since those two are the main characters of the first book I dont want to choose one.

So i will probably just go "book 1 part one is Kissa and part 2 is Jänis deal with it"

There is like a tone switch in the half way where i split the books so that will work

I know that 99% of people here are from Jumalanpelko and I am both excited and scared because Katastrofiballadi is SO FAR from Jumalanpelko like. With tone.

Like I hope u like fucking random shit lmao this story is not for people who need everything to be logical
