this should have been much more serious. ryuzaki can’t help but feel like something foreboding had just happened —- as though a part of light’s game had been played out rather expertly, rather easily, and ryuzaki was merely walking into a scenario that kira had long since thought up.
( and yet, his only theorized option is fleshing itself out in time —- to regard light-kira and light-light as separate entities seemed wise for the time being. he does not know what possessed the youth —- however, ryuzaki refuses to believe that the notebook was simply passed along ).
kira had a hand in this. they should not be joking. and yet, the obscene twist in his gut elicits something short of a barking, breathless laughter. ❛ who said the rest of your brain was intact, light-kun? ❜ he replies rather crudely, stepping into the lavish space of their suite a moment after light and immediately stalking toward the open, thick velvet curtains.
ryuzaki pulls the curtains shut, enveloping the suite in immediate darkness.
❛ the theory is that you, at some point, were kira. to expand on that theory, i would say that you aren’t kira right now. but i do believe that this power could just as quickly be returned to you. ❜ he murmurs, looking over his shoulder and toward light.
❛ i assume you are going to sleep too, light-kun? ❜
Light’s shocked still as they enter the room & Ryuzaki laughs. It was a harsh sound & one that came humorlessly, with no curve to the detective’s lips, but it was a laugh nonetheless. So, Ryuzaki had a sense of humor, was efficient at reciprocating jokes, & could laugh. This morning’s been full of discovery ... Light neglects to quip back, but does note that the given banter was quite funny--in an obviously-not-true way.
Of course the detective jumps right back into the real logistics of the case at hand, but Light can’t be too discouraged at that. The recounted theory goes in through one ear & out the other easily; a hand reaches up & undoes his neat tie as he finally follows into the room, a moment after Ryuzaki’s glanced back at him.
❛ I think I could recite that theory along with you by now. ❜ Light grumbles, undoing the top button of his shirt & sitting down at the edge of the bed. Now that the curtains were closed & the prospect of laying down for a while presented it self, the teen supposed he could slip into a shallow nap. There’d be no harm in it, anyway.
Light feels a genuine yawn welling at the back of his mouth--his jaw aches as he rolls up the cuffs of his shirt. ❛ That was the plan, wasn’t it ? ❜ The rhetoric is given as his head turns to regard Ryuzaki again. He realizes then, that they’d be sharing a bed. Of course this isn’t unheard of, but it’s rare, indeed, that the detective doesn’t sit himself across from Light in a separate chair for the night.
❛ You’ll be sleeping as well, right, Ryuzaki ? ❜ He double checks, as though he doubts Ryuzaki actually plans on following through with this rather fanciful plan.
