Zero day: Prom night - something I noticed.

In the prom scene, the day before zd, Cal goes with Rachel. We see them in the limousine, heās shy and quiet. On the way back home, I noticed something interesting. Rachel is wearing a blazer she didnāt have on the way there, so I thought: maybe Cal gave her his because she was cold?
But NO, lmao the camera turns, and heās still wearing his blazer.
Some people might think this is a pointless detail, but it actually means a lot. It shows that Cal wasnāt paying attention ā his mind wasnāt with them. He was completely checked out. Some other guy had to give his blazer to his date because Cal didnāt care enough to notice.
Then, after the limo starts moving, Cal asks them to drop him off at Andreās house. Rachel says she thinks itād be better if he stayed and had fun with them, but Cal ignores her and goes up to the driver to give Andreās address.
I love this scene. First of all, he didnāt need to go to Andreās house at that moment. He literally abandoned his date just to go see his friend. Theyāre so āstraight,ā lmao. Cal couldāve been popular, he had the chance, but he turned it down.
I think this shows how anxious he was that night, how he wasnāt really present with those people. He probably spent the whole time wanting to leave, because even though Cal can be more sociable than Andre, that doesnāt mean he isnāt faking it in every interaction.
This just shows how much more comfortable he is around Andre than anyone else. As soon as they got back, the first thing he asked was to go to Andreās house. He couldāve stayed, continued the night, been with the girl, then gone back, recorded the video, and gone to school ā but instead, he chose to spend that entire early morning with Andre.
When he finally arrives at Andreās house, the scene cuts to the two of them filming their last video explaining everything. At that moment, Cal is no longer wearing the suit but a looser shirt. So he must have changed when he got to Andreās. This made me wonder: was he wearing one of Andreās shirts, or was it one of his own that was already there? It suggests how many times they must have slept in the same room together before that moment.
Another thing is that in all the limousine scenes, there were jokes about gays ā including the scene where Cal says goodbye to them to enter Andreās house. Iām someone who believes everything is there for a reason, to be read between the lines. So, for me, it means a lot that someone surrounded by idiots making gay jokes still abandons their prom date to desperately go see their best friend.
