Six fanarts challenge day 3: Knull for @mkpersephone

It’s kind of a shame that despite the massive number of Latin loanwords in English, there’s still no widely used equivalent for “chthonic” — at least not one with the same meme potential as the Ukrainian version😅

So, let’s start the challenge with Bofur and his silly little hat for @splookiee

Turns out I low-key missed drawing dwarves all last year. I absolutely love the fact that, thanks to the designers’ titanic work, each of them can be easily recognized just by their silhouette. That’s especially helpful for people like me who can’t tell faces apart even if you shoot them with the gun🌚🌝

On the one hand, I truly love how detailed and intricate the dwarf designs are in the Hobbit movies, on the other hand, I absolutely hate drawing so many tiny details on small canvases — especially when I have to do lineart. It’s much easier to just paint over everything than to outline every single rune😭😭😭

I don't think I did a great job capturing the faces. While Charles may look like himself, Erik definitely doesn't. But hey, that's a reason to try again and do better. Also, Erik's love for questionable fashion choices should be studied.

I’m a firm believer in bottom Erik supremacy in X-Men: First Class😔😔😔

Prompt: Erik rolls his eyes, feigning indifference and claiming he doesn’t need praise. But the flush rising to his cheeks betrays him every time Charles murmurs, “Good boy.” And Charles laughs softly, knowing that this fake resistance is just another way of asking for more.

As a non-native English speaker, I find it extremely funny when a word I learned in one very specific context suddenly appears in a completely different one. It’s not like you can control your associations. Poor Charles just has to learn to live with that fact.

I absolutely adore the way you gave Erik white hair in the filmverse — it suits him so well with those sharp eyes and his long face. And I also love how beautiful Charles always looks in your art. Even in DOFP, he’s such a loser princess.

If you think the drawing looks a little different from the one on AO3 — you’re not imagining it. I tried to fix a few small things on top so they wouldn’t stand out as much😅

On the one hand, it’s nice to see that there’s visible progress since September. On the other hand… aaaargh, I really want to strangle myself right now over those stupid mistakes. I look at my older works and think, “ugly-ass baby, I could’ve done better if I’d just USED. MY. BRAIN.”

This is where I need to hold myself together, not stress, and not delete all my work from my account like I’ve done before🌚🌝

I’m a strong dog. I’ll look at the mistakes and do better.

At first, I thought that this year I’d finally be able to push myself and learn to post actual sketches — but I didn’t quite succeed at that😅😅😅

So, all things considered, I’ve decided to do another 6 Fanarts Challenge.

3 characters will be chosen from Tumblr and 3 from Twitter. I’ll mainly focus on Discworld, Tolkien, and X-Men, since those are the fandoms where I know all the characters well. However, you’re welcome to suggest others too! (Though I may decline if I’m not familiar with the fandom) I apologize in advance for that.

Coming back to drawing VetVimes turned out to be quite a therapeutic experience. Anyway - look, looook! I've changed the designs a bit, and now everyone finally has proper brow ridges (Ahahah). I might make a comparison post later. After all, almost two years have passed, and for once, I'm actually happy that the progress is visible.

I was going to post this yesterday, but then I thought it didn't quite fit the Valentine's Day theme😅

An unexpected comeback, dare I say😅 Though I hope the much-needed pause did me good, and that I’ll finally stop disappearing from the internet for months at a time. I honestly should have done it earlier, because you can only imagine how refreshed and motivated to draw I finally feel. That’s what going offline and touching grass does to a person.
