“Hey, have you met Mini? I’ve been her bitch since the beginning of time.” It was more lighthearted banter now, and Lucky’s grin came easier. Whilst Mini’s mom was definitely bangable, she was off-limits. The fact that that rule clearly didn’t extend to Kate was surprising to find out, but it was pretty damn flattering too.
“Whoop-pshhh,” she sounded, going through the whipping motion. “She’s got you wrapped up around her pinky and eating from her palm. I couldn’t be more proud.”

“I’m not your baby, and you need to leave.”
“Pushy. This is public property, you know.”
“Or maybe drinks like that make me look the type.” He said quietly as he moved across to her and took his glass from her hand. He waited a few seconds before taking a sip. “Oh that is good.”
“Are you denying it then?” she questioned, watching as he approached, the drink slipping out from her hands and into his. She sipped her own through a straw. “Thank you. I do have great taste,” she teased.
“Whiskey. Brandy. Fine liquor.”
“You look the type,” she answered, moving on her tip toes to reach the liquor, pulling out two glasses and pouring him one, choosing something more fruity for herself.

“Oh, uh, okay. Stop…stop crying,” said Ryan, walking over to where Kate was lying, looking down at her with confusion. “Please just leave.”
“O-okay,” Kate began, nodding as she pulled herself to her feet, wiping her tears. “I’ll go,” she promised.

Well. Lucky’s eyebrows rose and then they shot straight out of the universe. It was pretty much common knowledge that Mini’s mom liked to – uh – flirt to say the least, but she’d thought the whole watching-her-grow-up would’ve meant she was off boundaries. “I think Mini might flay me alive,” she sighed instead.
“You always let your friends decide who you sleep with?” she questioned, though cursed herself the following moment. Dammit, Kate. You cannot keep flirting with an eighteen year old! Though as always, the voice went ignored, muffled by this mornings drink.
“Sounds like a great thank you.”
“What’s your poison?”

“Isn’t that why you’re trying online dating, silly? Expand yourself.”

Oh! Nah, I didn’t call you a litter bug. I was shouting at the guy who actually dropped it. Sorry.”
Oh! Oh gosh, this is so embarrassing. This is worse than that time I walked out of the mall with the back of my skirt gone.
“Then I guess I just brought it back.” He muttered as he stooped to pick up what she seemed to be struggling with.
“Why don’t you stay for a while? As a thank you. I could mix us a drink.”
“Who said anything about someone dying.”
“Figure of speech, baby. Though not really, is it?” she went on, her gaze flickering towards the police tape that surrounded the scene.

“Oh god, I’m going to fall – it’s inevitable, Kate.”
“Just squeeze that cute tooshie in. We’re doing this. Come on!”
“Hey. No it’s fine. Let me get that. I wouldn’t have offered if I didn’t mean it…”
“And they said chivalry was dead,” Kate smiled, moving out of the way.
“That’s why I’m here, to find out. Probably nothing, don’t panic.”
“Oh god, who died?”

“Maybe because it’s late…” answered Ben with a casual shrug. Really all he’d been doing was stock take when she’d come in, the door ajar for some air. “My twin…?” the word stuck in his throat, he knew it was clearly a case of her being so drunk she was seeing double, but the thought hurt. “–No, I think you just had too much to drink.”
Kate giggled. “Well there you go,” she sang, swinging from one side to the next. “I don’t want to go home. Don’t make me go.”
Mags walked across one of the fields, dogs barking as he and several uniformed police officers searched for anything containing information about the murder. He hadn’t forgotten, nor had he let it go. “Hey, buddy, I’m sorry but you’re going to have to leave. This whole area could be a crime scene.”
Kate pushed herself up from the bench, groaning as she blinked back, running a hand through her hair. “What happened?” she muttered, holding her head in her hands.
“Jesus fuck!” Jennifer snapped, placing her body between the man and Kate’s as he stood. She pointed to the accused offender. “You get the hell out of my bar and stay out. I’ll be sure to call the police the next time you show your face.”
Kate watched the man depart with a hard gaze, softening the instant the doors swung shut, her arms wrapped around Jennifer. “You’re too good to me, Jenny baby. Let’s get a drink.”
