When she was 10, her father left their family for another woman. A year later, her mother moved to America together with Tala and younger sister.
She had her heart broken a few times and, though she loves the idea of love, is now scared to go into a relationship because she doesn't want to get hurt. Thinks love, true love, still exists...but mostly in movies and stories.

tidbits
Katherine is known as Kat to most, but some of her close family and friends call her Tala, which means "star" in Filipino.
She recently moved to East Haven, living alone at a house in Sutherland Park. It's her first time living apart from her family and she feels homesick but is determined to make a new life for herself.
Tala loves meeting new people and making new friends. Though shy at first, she'll open up once she gets closer to someone.
Kat nods, tucking her hair behind her ear. "Yeah, I didn't expect it to be this cold. Guess I'll have to get used to it." It doesn't escape her notice that this guy is dressed impeccably in designer clothes. She wonders if he's someone important around here, or maybe someone who's just well-off. His offer makes her smile and she nods, not missing his teasing tone. "Thanks, I'll remember that. My name is Kat, by the way, I'm new in town." She extends her hand to the man.
Kat laughs. "Yeah, I hope so!" They shake hands and her eyes widen when he tells her he's from a founding family of the town. She has to admit, she's a little impressed; she wonders if he's like a celebrity in town. "Oh? That's kinda cool! So you've lived in East Haven all your life?" she asks.
His question makes her smile and she shrugs, putting her hands back in her pockets. "Oh, you know. New starts, new adventures..." Bad break-ups, is more like it. "New opportunities. Mmhmm, I work as a receptionist at the Silver Moon Hotel." @leoxclark
Her smile widens. "Thanks! Nice to meet you, Aarin," she says before giggling at the suggestion. "God, nachos do sound good right now...okay, nachos it is!" She steps forward as a customer gets their meal, looking around at the crowd that's starting to fill up the area. "So is this one of the popular hang-out spots here in East Haven?" @aarinxduskin
"I can see why, there's a lot of variety and options here," she says, glancing around at the different food stalls. Kat shakes her head, smiling sheepishly at Aarin. She feels silly for having seen so little of the town, but bumping into boxes in the middle of the night started to get on her nerves. "I've only been here a month and most of that time was spent cleaning up my new place, unpacking boxes, and working." Her eyes brighten at the suggestion though. "Patty's Cafe? Yeah, I'll check it out! Is it a fancy cafe or kind of casual?" Her budget isn't looking too good at the moment, having spent a lot on furniture and appliances. And decor. And knick knacks —to make her new house look homey. At least, that's what she told herself. @aarinxduskin

Kat holds a steaming mug of coffee in her hands, gently blowing on the surface. Sitting on her porch steps, she studies the neighborhood around her; the street that was quiet a few minutes ago now waking up. She's met some of her neighbors, but between unpacking and work and buying stuff for her new home, it's been hectic. Still, it's only been a month; and now that she's settled down, she promises herself she'll make more of an effort to interact with the people in town, make some new friends.
A bird lands on one of the trees and she puts down her mug on the wooden step beside her and grabs her phone, aiming it at the bird. After taking one shot, she adjusts her position for a different angle when a woman steps into the frame. She looks up; she's seen her around, maybe she lives in the area too? Kat lowers her phone and raises a hand with a smile, calling out, "Good morning."
Kat climbs down the porch steps to meet Chantel, reaching out her hand to the woman. "Hi, Chantel, it's nice to meet you! I'm Kat." She feels excited to meet other neighbors, maybe then her free days from work won't be spent alone anymore. Otherwise, she'd have to look into getting a cat.
"Oh! I passed by that house before! If you need any help, just let me know?" she offers with a smile. Kat gestures to her house behind her and laughs. "Well, I've unpacked my last box after a month so I'd say that's a win. I met some nice people at the Food Haven the other night and I have to say: East Haven is proving to be a great town so far. Have you lived here long?" @chantelbedford
She laughs with the woman and nods, crossing her arms to keep her hands warm. "To be honest, I'm not sure. What would you recommend?" She glances at the menu too, reading over the descriptions of the food items. "Oh! I'm Kat, by the way, I'm new here!" @aarinxduskin

"Ah! Thanks!" Kat steps forward and laughs. "You should get something familiar, one of her comfort foods or favorites. I think those would be a safe choice." She finds it sweet how married couples do small things for each other, even if it's just buying a meal. "Besides, looks like you have a lot of options here." Her eyes sweep across the place and she tells herself she needs to try everything there, eventually. Though hopefully she'll have new friends to eat with in the long run. @itssunnyxhussan
Sunny nodded as he let the woman step forward. "That's true. I've been here a lot and everything here is good." he commented. It was a place he came often on his breaks from work because normally the wait for food wasn't too long. "It all looks so good though, doesn't it? Is it your first time here?" He asked, wondering if she was from out of town. @katherinexgraham
"Well, I'm hoping to try them all eventually." Kat chuckles. There's a lot of stalls but she plans on staying here a while anyway. "It is, I just moved into town. My name is Kat," she replies, holding out her hand to him with a smile. He looks young, she wonders if he and his wife are locals. "You're right about that; all of them look delicious. Which one is your favorite?" @itssunnyxhussan
Kat looks at the line in front of her before turning to the lady behind her --a stunning woman with gorgeous curls. "Still a couple more before us," she replies with a smile. "Would you like to go ahead? I don't mind, really." It's cold and standing out there with an empty stomach definitely won't help the woman's case. Besides, she's new in town and it doesn't hurt to be nice to the locals.

Katherine just ended a call with her mother when she heard someone yelling. She turned towards the noise and her eyes widen as she sees a golden retriever running at full speed towards her. She let out a little cry, her fight or flight not kicking in and instead she just stands there, waiting for the dog to reach her. She puts her hands out in front of her and braces for the impact. Sure enough, the dog nearly knocks her off balance but she manages to catch herself last minute. "Whoa, there, boy! Down!" She giggles when the dog jumps around, his tail wagging cutely. Kat bends down a little, rubbing its head and cooing, "You're a good boy, aren't ya? But where's your owner?"
"Oh, don't worry about it!" Kat answers with a laugh as she scratches behind Captain's ears. "Hello, I'm Kat. I wouldn't mind being Captain's friend! I'm new here and it would be an honor to be this cute fellow's friend." She laughs at Captain's antics. "If getting hair all over my clothes is the price to pay for Captain's company, then so be it." Kat smiles at Sully before turning back to Captain. "Would you like that, boy? Would you like to be friends?" @fredsullysullivan
Kat pulls her sweater closer to her body, taking her time as she walks through the streets. It's been a month since she's moved in, but she's barely had any time to explore the town, too busy unpacking and getting used to her new job. She lets out a sigh, relieved to finally be able to take a break.
Reaching for her camera, she lifts it to her eyes and peers through the viewfinder, wanting to take a shot of Founder's Square when she spots something that catches her eye. There's a string of lights set up somewhere down the road, people heading towards it in groups. She lowers her camera, curiously walking towards the lights.
Her face brightens when she realizes it's a food park. After three consecutive nights of instant noodles, she tells herself she deserves a delicious meal that night. As she walks around Food Haven, she can't help but miss her friends in California, as well as her mom and sister. Starting over in a new place isn't new to her, she had to do it when she was younger. But making friends now is different than it was when you were 11.
"Still, you'll have to make new friends eventually."
If only she were more extroverted, like her little sister.
She spots a food truck selling tacos and she lines up, rubbing her hands together before stuffing them in her jacket. She takes the chance to look around while waiting in line.
After the short trip to Dubai with Marcel as their first date, everything else in her life was feeling a little mundane. All the same, she was feeling positive about her future with Marcel for the first time in a long time. They had come a long way, both of them growing as people. However, it turned out he had to work late that evening and Aarin was too hungry to wait around. She headed down to the food trucks after closing up at Patty's Cafe. Spotting one of the shorter lines, she walked up behind someone, "Excuse me," she smiled at the other, "can you happen to see how many more people? I'm starving," she laughed softly. @katherinexgraham

Sully was at the dog park with his dog a golden retriever named Captain. He smiled as his dog had his toy running around with a few other dogs. He was having a good time and Sully did like to give his dog time with other dogs. Since Sully did only have Captain right now. As much as he liked another dog it being just him at home he did not have the time for it. But part of him was always looking in case there was another dog that needed a home. After a while, he knew Captain had a good time so it was time to go home. "Come on boy let's go" he said and Captain followed after and headed out towards Sullys truck then Captain hurried off "Captain!" he said as he saw Captain run towards a younger girl his tail wagging. "No boy come here!"

Sunny was trying his best to help his wife with their newborn twins when he wasn't working. Even if 'making dinner' meant getting take out on his way home from work at East Haven Memorial some nights. He had text her to let her know what he was doing and that he would be home soon when he saw the person in line from the corner of his eye. He wasn't even sure if she had been waiting longer or not since he wasn't paying attention but he stepped back. "Sorry, you go ahead of me. I'm not even sure what I want." he chuckled sheepishly putting his phone away to look at his options of food trucks. "My wife said 'surprise me,' which usually means that I'll probably end up getting the wrong thing." He added jokingly.
"Ah! Thanks!" Kat steps forward and laughs. "You should get something familiar, one of her comfort foods or favorites. I think those would be a safe choice." Its hard to forget sometimes the charms East Haven has as a town and community. Every time Leo has spent more than a month away from the town he comes back only to be reminded again. It helps of course that he has nostalgic feelings towards his home town. Its where he spent most of his life and grew to what he is today. Regardless its always nice to be reminded of why he loves his birthplace. The Food Haven is one such reminder. Just seeing the place lit up as darkness of the evening creeps in makes him smile. As does the mix of people in it, moving about between the trucks. Standing a bit aways, he takes in the scene, considering the trucks that are going for a new cuisine he hasn't tried here before as well as the old ones doing the same thing they have for years and doing it well.
Finally Leo decides that tacos sounds good, walking over and lining up behind a gorgeous brunette. She seems cold where she stands, and he slips off his designer leather gloves and offers them to her. "Here. You seem to need them more than me." he says in a friendly tone with that charming smile he's known for.
