Kat: I've learned nothing is ever really a 'sure' thing.

Kat: You sure? I have to head to the city in the next couple of days. If you want you can just toss a few things in my car and I can bring them here.

Az: Yes, stop being helpful.

Kat: If you live with me... you will have to get used to me being helpful.

[The next morning]

Az: No. I'll figure it out. Thanks.

Az: Seriously, Hummel. Don't bring it up. I want this to work.

Kat: You sure? I have to head to the city in the next couple of days. If you want you can just toss a few things in my car and I can bring them here.

Az: I meant taking turns cooking, Hummel.

Az: Whatever. I'm sure you'll both figure it out.

Kat: that's what I meant. Never mind. Do you need help moving your stuff. I've got a trailer I can tow behind my jeep.

Kat: it's already figured out. She left and I'm here.

Az: I don't want to talk about it with you.

Az: We can take turns, I guess. I can cook for myself.

Kat: good cause I don't feel like crying tonight.

Kat: anyway, sure. We can take turns or we could spend the entire summer never talking but living across the hall.

Az: You would assume that. I guess I do now.

Az: No, it doesn't.

Az: as long as you don't try to make me cook for you.

Kat: Yeah... well. Yeah.

Kat: You won't have to cook. But you are more than welcome to enjoy my cooking?

Az: I think I might take you up on your offer.

Kat: Yeah?

Kat: It's certainly still on the table. Although I assume you know Daria isn't going to be here.

Kat: Not sure if that changes your mind or not.

Things are good and you have been missed! I moved to Philly, but we should get coffee if you're still floating around in the city. You're also more than welcome to call me up if you're in Philadelphia for some reason. 

As far as what you missed, I'm afraid I've kept myself out of the loop on purpose.

I’m sure you have. I’m curious what there is to get done in a city like Philly. It sounds like there’s more to do at night on your own than in the actual city. ;)

I've written a lot. The grand piano in the living room sounds beautiful in a lonely haunted sort of way. There's too much space here for just little old me.

Well that doesn’t seem like much of a city to me. I’m guessing the city that never sleeps gave you a keen case of entertainment insomnia.

It did. At least I'm very productive between the hours of 1am and 5am. I've gotten quite a bit done while everyone else is dead to the world.

Philadelphia... it's the city of brotherly love, it's their motto or saying. I'm here for the summer. Just needed to take a break from the madness. I'll let you know if they mean that kind of brotherly love or not.

Kat: I think we can manage that. You just let me know when you want to come over and I'll get the ice cream ready. There will be ice cream. That's my demand.

A Bit Cliche || Kat Solo

When: Tuesday June 2nd

Where: Coffee Shop in Philly

Who: Kat and a cute barista

It is a chilly day, definitely a cardigan over this summer dress, sort of afternoon. So Katherine pulls a little grey one over her yellow dress, sliding on a pair of ballet flats and grabbing her latest read as she heads out of the apartment and down to her bike. The ride is a short one, only three miles down the road to her new favorite hangout, a tiny hipster paradise called Ultimo Coffee. Kat wouldn’t consider herself a hipster by any means, whatever it actually means, but the girls that frequent the shop aren’t hard on the eyes and the seats are comfy. With free wifi and espresso, what more could you want really?

Kat hooks her bike up to the rack outside, tugging her cardigan around her body a bit tighter as the storm clouds begin to roll in. “Lovely day for a bike ride… good job Kat.” The blonde shakes her head and steps inside the shop, heading straight to the counter and ordering a latte with one shot of vanilla. One she acquires her cup with the cute little foam heart. Kat pauses for a minute looking down at the mug, then back up at the barista that made it, since today is the first time she’s received a heart versus the normal leaf or bear.

She is adorable, around Kat’s age most likely, mixed with gorgeous hair tucked neatly under an adorable little beanie. She is wearing these square rimmed glasses that frame her face wonderfully. Kat can’t help but look, glad that she’s currently busy making another drink so that at least she doesn’t notice that Kat is obviously checking her out. Of course, with Kat’s luck, the blonde doesn’t look away fast enough and the barista catches her eye, winking before a customer begins to talk to her. Kat can feel herself blush so she hurries off to a table, hiding behind a bookcase, simply because she’s not even sure how to feel about the small exchange. Normally she’d take it in stride, but Kat’s not used to attention like this, especially when she still feels like she should be ‘in mourning’ for the relationship that just ended.

Kat spends the next hour reading Rachel Maddow’s ‘Drift’ while sipping her latte until the foam rests in the bottom of the cup, the heart still somewhat intact, mainly because Kat tried to keep it untouched. “Is it any good?” Kat jumps slightly, not expecting anyone to speak up right behind her, the words obvious directed at her since the section she’s in is rather empty. Kat turns to the origin of the voice, her eyes meeting the cute baristas. “Oh….um…” Kat looks at her book as if right on the page it says ‘Yes pretty lady, this book is lovely, you should read it.’ “Yes… uh, I’m only about a hundred pages in. I really like it so far, but what’s not to like about Maddow?” Kat lets out a silly laugh, hiding her face the minute the lame sentence flows out of her mouth.

“I’d have to agree. It’s nice to have such a great public representation of someone that plays on our team.” The barista smirks at Kat and it only makes the blonde blush more.

“Um… yeah. It is nice.”

“I’m Ally by the way.” The beautiful woman stuck her hand out to shake Kat’s.

“Kat, nice to meet you.” She has a firm hand shake, but her actual hands were soft and gentle. Kat really shouldn’t be paying attention to things like this. Ally moves to the table next to Kat and begins wiping it down.

“I haven’t seen you around here, Kat. Are you new in town?” Ally laughs and shakes her head. “That was a pretty awful pick up line wasn’t it? And here I thought working in a coffee shop as a hip barista would help me talk to beautiful women.” Kat’s eyes widen and she can’t help but smile. ‘Well fuck.’ Kat thinks, her eyes darting down towards the table, fingers tracing the edge of the small saucer her mug sits on. “Well I mean. I think you’re doing a pretty good job, actually. Um, I go to Barnard College in New York. I’m here on my summer break.”

Ally’s smile is gorgeous and quite infectious. Kat may not be used to girls hitting on her, but she certainly doesn’t mind it. “All summer huh? Good to know. I have to get back behind the bar, but you should show that lovely face of yours around here more often Kat. I’d look forward to coming to work more.” Ally winks and heads back behind the counter to start making more drinks. ‘Well this was pleasantly unexpected.’ The blonde thinks as she drains the foam in her mug, dog earring the page in her book. Better to end on a high note for sure. Kat grabs her bag and takes the mug up to the counter.

“Bye, Ally.”

“I’ll see you later, Kat.”

The blonde exits the shop and as she’s unchaining her bike, just as a bright yellow poster catches her eye. It’s for an open mic night tomorrow at that very same coffee joint. ‘Okay universe… I get it.’ Kat makes a mental note of the time it starts and swings a leg over her bike, taking one last look in the shop window before pedaling back towards her apartment, praying it won't rain.

Jessi: She might not be here that long. I'm not sure how long she's staying. But if she's lucky enough, I'll let her tag along.

Jessi: I notice those legs of yours, too. ;) And the fact that you're impressively talented.

Jessi: Sounds like something worth looking forward to, then.

Kat: Legs, dimples and I'm artistically inclined. Not too bad I guess. ;)

Kat: It is. We may even just end up watching a movie. I don't really care as long as we get some best friend time in. Besides, it might be nice to have a somewhat normal night for once.
