Her heels were killing her. For a minute it was all Gayle could think about. She definitely wasn’t built for events like that. No, she was built for running, having fun, be loud and travel. To be forced to stay at that party all night only to maintain her cover was worse than any torture they could pull her through if she got caught behind enemy lines. Well, if she got caught behind enemy lines again. Sometimes it was a wonder she still had a job. She must be really good at something. What was it that they said the last time? She had instinct? But at least now she seemed to have someone to share her pain.It was obvious, at least to Gayle, that the only reason they clang to one another was the mutual hate for that event.
The blonde watched the other girl talk about the game with a confused look on her face. She obviously was a lot more interested in that sort of thing than Gayle ever would be, but it was fun to watch her talk. Something about the girl’s accent pleased her ears in an odd manner. Not just the accent, but everything about the girl seemed to be a lot more urban than herself and her mid-western ways. “It’s just for distraction. Once I downloaded that candy game thing and I got so hooked on it I lost a boyfriend, so I try to stay away.” She chuckled. “But I’ll look into that.”
One thing did got her attention, though. ‘The best way to game is to build your own’ ‘I always keep my home-built computer up to date’. It was just a small detail, and probably meant nothing, but again, she was trained to pay attention to that. God, the girl could possibly be even more controlling than her mother. But since Gayle doubted their relationship would go any further than the next 10 minutes, she ignored it.
“You look amazing on the dress, though.” The blonde said nonchalantly, leaning back with a small smirk opening on her lips and her eyes focusing on the other girl’s. She had noticed it before, but decided to keep quiet, but now she couldn’t pass the opportunity for a quick flirt. Mostly out of habit. A little because of the alcohol in her system. “Don’t you need the raise, though? I wouldn’t hate some more money in my life, I’ll tell you that.”
As the brunette turned to look at the men she left behind, Gayle’s eyes scanned the room. She didn’t have a boss looking over her, not exactly, but her services were hired, and if she wanted to keep her cover and not get S.H.I.E.L.D angry at her, she still had to make sure all went well. At least everyone else seemed to be satisfied. She wouldn’t want to be forced to leave and lose the only decent company she had found in days.
“How do you keep a body like this if you don’t exercise?” Gayle asked with a hint of judgement in her words. “Eh. Not surprising. Men are boring. And I’m really cool, so.” shrugged with a smug look on her face.
Looking at her clock she tried to do the math and figure out how much longer she would have to endure before crawling into her bed. God her feet hurt.
“Candy Crush?” Her tone was incredulous, and this time it wasn’t just pretend. She had no idea that people around here actually still played that sort of thing. But.. here she was. Standing right in front of her as living proof that the fad hadn’t died out quite yet. Snorting a bit, trying to keep her humor to herself, she finished off the glass of wine and set it down on a passing waiter’s tray. Now she had nothing to do with her hands except fold them politely in front of her.
She did, however, raise her eyes at the throwaway compliment and filed it for later. Katia always looked amazing, so that was no surprise to hear it. The surprise came from being flirted with by someone other than an elderly man or her coworkers. Their form of flirting was always a light tap on the ass or staring lewdly at her low cut tops. It was a welcome change. Women always captured her attention more anyways. Her team buzzed in her ear, and she tried to smile to fight her lip curling up in a snarl. Both of them were telling her to flirt back, to play up her cover because she’d be here a lot longer, and having someone to pass the time would help matters.
She hated them, but they were right. Besides, she only had a few minutes left before she had to go.
This time when she looked Gayle up and down, it was more lewd, more appreciating of the girl’s body and her smile was downright R rated. Years of training perfect that look, and she knew she was damn good at it. “How I look in the dress doesn’t really cancel out how it feels. I have a few dresses that looks much better, and still feel better against the skin. Softer, you know? But..” She waved her hand in dismissal of that line of conversation. Only to hear her body being complimented again.
This would be easy.
Her smirk twitched a little wider and she shifted her weight to one leg. “You’re really big on the compliments tonight, and I don’t even know your name. Most women would say to go easy and buy me dinner first.” Katia let out a soft laugh, and shook her head. “I do exercise, but not as much as I should. I just hate it, and would rather diet than do any sort of physical activity that isn’t required.” She licked her lips as her support howled in her ear, egging her on. What they didn’t realize is that if she was able to pick this girl up for a night, they wouldn’t be in on it. Idiots.
“I’m Katherine, by the way.” She moved over to the table next to them, now being cleared off of food, and bent over to grab a napkin and yank a pin from one of the caterers. “Since you’re good conversation..” She murmured before jotting down her number for the phone she’d been given to keep her cover and folded it up, handing it off. “It’s only fair we try again some time. That is.. if you’d like.”
