Today in men assuming they’re wanted
I don’t blog so much these days, but this newsletter will (I think??) be different?? Subscribe if you wanna hear from me, oh, let’s say once a week, probably on Fridays. I’ll be linking to stuff I want to buy online, but should not buy. Maybe you will buy it instead.
She said yes 😊💘 catch us at prom
OK fine, I like promposals!!!
Lately I have been feeling INCREDIBLY feisty with commenters. I have been writing back, even, which is something I used to profess never to do. I can’t help it!!! Sometimes the only thing that makes me feel better is writing back and proving to myself (and whoever likes my comment, which I hope will eventually amount to a larger number than those who liked the precipitating one) that I am funnier than the person I’m responding to. Usually I like to reply to one that’s only kinda mean, or kinda clueless. It’s like Goldilocks. You don’t want to reply if the comment is too self-evidently inane, but you don’t want to reply to the worst one either, because that person is scary.
I used to think I had a very tough skin and I am pretty sure I did. I worry that it’s getting thinner as I get older, which is very annoying, because I would have thought it was only fair that it be the opposite. It should be like exposure therapy — repeated contact with the stimuli should make it easier to bear. But lately I’ve been a real baby about tiny, not-that-bad-in-the-scheme-of-things comments like, I don’t know, “you dumb bitch.” (Ha.) Is it that I am getting thinner-skinned, or is that comments like these were chipping away all along, and I didn’t notice until the top few layers were gone?
You know that feeling.

I didn’t expect to start dressing differently when I started dating a woman. But I’ve realized that I’m not the same, and my clothes don’t need to be either.
does anyone have more pictures of dogs making this face? i need to start a collection
The X-Files theme is so serene and calm in major key.
COMING UP THIS WEEK ON MULDER & SCULLY: SCULLY JOINS A BOOK CLUB AND MULDER GETS LOST IN WALMART
^lol that last comment. Yeah, major keys are weird. Give me any song in a minor key.

My emotion right now is this dog.
As I grow older, I've become more comfortable saying "I don’t know."
Two things! 1. My new book, Dear Emma, is out today. Maybe you’d like to buy it!
2. I wrote this essay about giving and asking for advice, and trying to do less of it, which is a big theme in the book, too.
Thanks, as always, for reading. <3
Do you want my advice?
Haha. But, DO YOU??? I'm sending 15 readers a hand-written letter (on really pretty Dear Emma stationery!), and if you'd like to be one of those people, all you need to do is forward me the email confirmation of your Dear Emma preorder (from Amazon, B&N, etc.) ALONG WITH your question + a mailing address.
Email your preorder + question to: [email protected]!
