THE QUEERS TO PERFORM AT REGGIES MUSIC JOINT WITH THE DOLLYROTS, HANDGUNS, AND CAPGUN HEROES ON MARCH 20
IAN'S PARTY ANNOUNCES DAILY SCHEDULES INCLUDING MEAT WAVE, REZN, CHEER-ACCIDENT, GLITTER MONEYYY, THE BROKEDOWNS, BEV RAGE AND THE DRINKS, RAD PAYOFF, AND MORE JANUARY 3-5, 2020 at CHOP SHOP + SUBT CHICAGO, IL.
MEST LISTENING PARTY AND PERFORMANCE AT 350 BREWING CO. NEW ALBUM, MASQUERADE, OUT JANUARY 17
This morning, The Arrivals announced two shows at Mortimer's in Minneapolis on Friday, December 27th and at Reggies in Chicago on Saturday, December 28th.
Founded in Chicago in 1996, The Arrivals are the Jam meets Dillinger Four in sound and spirit (they have shared a member with the latter since 2005); something like Naked Raygun trying to revisit The Kinks. They play a kind of working-class punk rock that’s not patriotic, not overtly populist, but thoughtful and authentic. The songs are artfully written and delivered with urgency and forthrightness, with well-informed lyrics that center on the lives of lower-class Americans and general disillusionment with civilization. The Arrivals is real modern music from the urban Midwest. It’s rustbelt realism at its best.
In the later part of the 2000s, The Arrivals evolved into their own species of punk rock animal, in the way that the Clash did as the ’70s became the 80’s or Jawbreaker did during the early ’90s. And their last album to date, 2010’s “Volatile Molotov” (their fourth full-length), tops all. With classic rock and punk references strewn throughout, they’ve called it their “love letter to their favorite music.” Todd Congelliere of their label, Recess Records, says it “listens like a classic novel.”
Since 2013, The Arrivals took a bit of a break — focusing on their home lives and starting an array of musically-adventurous side projects. When the band has come together to play, as they did in 2016 for Awesome Fest in San Diego and this past January at the Ian’s Party festival in Chicago, they explode from the stage with enthusiasm and a pure love of playing music together. As such, Arrivals shows have become highly-anticipated events that see fans traveling from far corners to join the group in their celebrations. As one of the longest-running cast members on NBC’s Saturday Night Live (1986-1995), Nealon created some of the show’s most memorable characters; his recurring role as an anchor on ‘Weekend Update’ helped make the sketch a show staple. In 1988, he earned an Emmy nomination as part of the SNL writing team.
350 Brewing's comedy night, Laugh Riot, returns to the 350 Soundstage at the Tinley Park Convention Center on Friday, September 27th with Randy and Jason Sklar. The Sklar Brothers have guest-starred on HBO's Curb Your Enthusiasm, It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia, Comedy Central's Roast Battle III, Adult Swim’s Children's' Hospital, and much more.

“Thanks to Jeff from Rebel Spies we were connected with Derek Grant from Alkaline Trio / Suicide Machines about doing a lyric video for the album. Derek, in collaboration with Ech, our longtime art guru, created this really cool video for us that is a ton of fun and way more than a lyric video.” - THE MIZZERABLES
Last week, Chicago punks THE MIZZERABLES premiered the video for the title track from Whatever… This Sucks via New Noise Magazine. The video is directed and animated by Derek Grant (Alkaline Trio/Suicide Machines) with artwork by Miguel Echemendia.
Recorded by 88 Fingers Louie guitarist Dan Precision at his Bombshelter studio in Chicago, Whatever… This Sucks is the band’s third full-length album. It’s available for pre-order now and will be available on August 23rd via Whoa! Records.
Formed in 2013 by Joe Mizzi, THE MIZZERABLES are a Chicago-based punk rock trio with gritty, vocal-driven hooks. With Dave Vazzano and Korey Brisendine holding down the rhythm section, the band has been refining their sound over the past few years, culminating in their latest effort Whatever… This Sucks, a 30 minute trip through Mizzi’s psyche. Mizzi, a Michigan native and former member of Ten Ninety, Common Rider, and About the Mess, pulls influence from much of the music he cut his teeth listening to layered on top of the seemingly always forward-moving foundation set by Vazzano and Brisendine.
“With their third full length, The Mizzerables have delivered fourteen infectious and raw slices of melodic punk rock that are served with a side order of pop hooks and political dissent.” - THE PUNK SITE

(WEDNESDAY JUNE 19, 2019) -- The inaugural T1 Fest will take place on Friday, November 8th and Saturday, November 9th at The Forge in Joliet, IL. All proceeds from the shows will go to the JDRF, (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation) to assist in their fight against type 1 diabetes. Organizer Jim Costanzo felt compelled to establish the event after his family was affected by the disease. He explained, “My nephew Joey was diagnosed at the age of three and like so many others, we had no understanding of it, but we quickly learned that this is a very serious illness.” He continued, “Working with the JDRF to learn what lied ahead for him, we saw so many families that were not able to handle the financial burden of providing care for their child. We have since made it a goal to raise as much money as possible to assist the JDRF in their mission to raise awareness and find a cure for type 1 diabetes.”
Costanzo cited his experiences growing up in Chicago’s punk scene as motivation for coordinating this fest. When reflecting on those times, he said “What we found was a community, a scene where even as teenagers we could make a difference. Whether it was playing shows against racism or gathering coats for the homeless, we saw that through music change was possible. One day we were discussing ideas on how we could do our part and we thought it would be great to put on a benefit show like back in the day.”
After setting his idea in motion, Costanzo was able to assemble a lineup that features numerous noteworthy acts. Friday night is headlined by Flatfoot 56 with support from Brendan Kelly, (Lawrence Arms/Wandering Birds) The Brokedowns, Billy liar, and Andrew Thomas. Saturday’s festivities begin at 3:30 PM, with the following bands playing: The Smoking Popes, The Lillingtons, 88 Fingers Louie, Dan Vapid & The Cheats, Vandoliers, Kali Masi, The Reaganomics, and Cap Gun Heroes. Tickets for each individual night are available, as well as weekend passes, and can be purchased here.

Drilling for Blasting Record Release show at Chop Shop!
Four bands. Four stages, one in each corner of Chop Shop. Each band plays one song at a time and the crowd is in the round. There’s no headliner, every band is on first and last simultaneously. Still confused? Read this. Capping off the night is an after party featuring DJ Coffin Banger.
Drilling for Blasting is the sort of loud, weird, odd, but rocking band that might take a room by surprise, to find themselves honestly pumping their legs in unison to a two-piece rock band that has more in common with The Who than the White Stripes.
Every time you see Drilling for Blasting — and we really hope that you will — there’s that whisper in the back of the room, sometimes a yell, asking “What the fuck is this?” It’s ... fun, and a little bit electric, kinda dirty and definitely driving rock and roll. It’s Douglas Ward on guitar and harmonica, Kammy Lee on drums and both trading vocals. It’s the reason you fell in love with music in the first place, and it’s such a relief to be reminded of that. Their sound comes out of punk rock, but it also comes out of the blues, and what you hear when you listen to it seems to be something like a Rorschach test — it blurs on the edges but always hits you in the gut.
We know what it’s like to hear Drilling for Blasting for the first time, and there’s such a joy in it we’re almost jealous you get to now. One word from experience: when you catch yourself enthusiastically shouting out the praises of hickory, it’s okay to crack a smile. Folk singer-songwriter, Austin Lucas, to play Chop Shop on Thursday, May 23rd with The Family Gold, Joe Wortell & The Natural Law, Sparkle Carcass, and DJ Lawrence Peters
"You'd be hard pressed to find such a versatile and imagineable artist anywhere else. His immense vocal range and precise playing abillity is a testament of his own disipline within the craft of songwriting" - Chuck Ragan (Hot Water Music)
It’s been over two decades since Austin Lucas packed his bags and left Bloomington, Indiana, the Midwestern town where he spent his childhood years falling in love with rock & roll, embracing his punk roots, and standing his ground whenever intolerant locals didn’t understand his way of life. He returns to that place – both creatively and physically – with his seventh studio album, Immortal Americans. Written after a tumultuous period that found Lucas getting sober, supporting his partner through a battle with cancer, and breaking up with his longtime record label, Immortal Americans is a clear-eyed album for murkier times, rooted in stripped-down heartland rock songs that find the artist reflecting upon the changes in both his hometown and himself. Samiam are less of a band than they are a post-hardcore institution. Since forming in Berkeley, California almost three decades ago, the group has toured the world with everyone from Green Day to Bad Religion, and Iron Chic to Off With Their Heads. They had mainstream radio play with songs like "Capsized" and "She Found You," released eight full-length albums and consistently played to audiences all over the world. If you've caught Samiam over the past few years, you already know that the band sounds as powerful now as they did during their commercial heyday in the late '90s. If anything, they sound more relevant today than ever before and they're returning to Chicago to play Chop Shop on May 15th. Samiam features Jason Beebout (vocals), Sergie Loobkoff (guitar), Colin Brooks (drums), Sean Kennerly (guitar/bass), and Chad Darby (bass). SAMIAM Off With Their Heads Kali Masi
