Aubrey made her way up towards the front of the bus from her bunk. She had been stuck on a Candy Crush level and finally ran out of lives, which she saw as an excuse to be a human being and go talk to her tour-mates. She plopped down on the weird couch across from the lighting girl who was typing away on her laptop. Not wanting to disturb, she sat there looking out the window for a minute until the girl waved at her.

“Oh, hey! How’s this ride been for you so far?”

Katie shrugged. “Uh, not bad. Boring,” she said, motioning to her game and giggling a bit at herself for playing a stupid game instead of working. “Haven’t, um, haven’t gotten bus sick yet,” she added, pausing to knock on the wooden table-thing in front of her.

He wasn’t one to often intrude on someone when they seemed to be engrossed in something, Theo was very much a pro- if they are alone let them be type of personality but he’d been inquiring a few of the stage hands on who to go to with some of the issues he was having with his set up and Katie’s name had come up several times.

“Hey” he returned, no being able to help casting a glance towards her screen. “I know you’re super busy levelling up but, if you have a sec I was hoping I could go over some of the lighting cues on my set?”

Katie felt her face grow red as he saw her goofing off. She did technically have a job to do. Speaking of which, she put her laptop onto the table and turned her attention to the rapper in front of her. “How can I help?” she asked, glad to get to work on something new.

Katie sat, mindlessly typing at her laptop. It wasn’t even anything important. She was literally playing a typing game, she was that bored. She yawned as a shadow fell over the “Level Up” card her game displayed. 

“Hey,” she said, turning around and giving a small wave.

I don’t think I’ll ever get over opening for Elle Goulding. Someone please pinch me. I need to know if I’m dreaming.

Life at 7:50am. 

This is lighting design in a nutshell. 

For those of you theater dorks that follow me, this is what you have to look forward to.  Spreadsheets, PO’s, angry employers who hate you, etc.  In the end it is like every other job. 

This is not unlike every other job in the entertainment industry.  Some days you’re angry and other days you’re angry and crying.
