I don't even know if introduction posts are a thing on tumblr at this point--it's been probably...10 years since I was on this site with any regularity?
Anyway, I made a completely new blog because I wanted a fresh start. I'm Katje and I'm here to talk about my writing. Hence...the blog name.
A bit about me in some bullet points!
Name: Katje van Loon
Age: I was there, Gandalf. I was there 3,000 years ago.... (I am an Ancient Millennial and I might reveal my actual age later when I'm drunk and depressed.)
What I Write: epic fantasy, science-fantasy romance, sci-fi sports romance, portal fantasy, sci-fi horror, poetry, post-apoc, romantasy.... If it fits under the umbrella genre of "speculative fiction" I'll probably flirt with it, at least.
Current WIPs: at least twelve eighteen. I tend to WIP-jump.
Finished drafts: ten novels or novellas. Assorted short stories and poetry collections besides that.
Published books: six. 1 novel and 2 poetry collections are available on retailers, two novellas and one novel are available exclusively to my newsletter and/or my reader membership.
Current projects: big one is re-launching my debut, first published in 2011 under the title Bellica and now to be re-released under the title Chosen of Kore with a new cover, new series name, and updated text.
I'm also re-writing the sequel to that book from the ground up for its re-launch. Chosen of Kore should release this November in 2026? maybe?, and Star of Ixchel I'm hopeful will be ready for a 2026 2027 release, but it might be 2027 2028.
This year (2026) I'd also like to launch my Elemental Chemistry series, which is a spicy science-fantasy alien romance series with alien abduction, Mars needs women, and time travel in it. The prequel, Fate's Promise, has already been released to my newsletter list and my reader membership, but I'd like to get book 1, Stolen Fire, out to retailers this year. Assuming I'm ever able to finish edits.
As for writing, I WIP-jump. Right now I'm working on Star of Ixchel but two months ago I was feverishly working on the first in another series which is a sci-fi sports romance. In 2025 I went through 5 months of burnout, so right now (Jan 2026) I'm just trying to get back into the swing of things.
Fave genre to read: I read everything because I'm a writer & it's all useful, but my personal preference for genre runs to sci-fi, fantasy, and romance.
Favourite book: uhhh there is no possible way I could choo--Rootabaga Stories by Carl Sandburg.
Some non-bookish things about me
I have a Border Collie named Sirius Li ("the Dog Star") who lives with my mom for complicated reasons, but he is my baby and I adore him. Miss him every day.
Happily married to the love of my life, Mr. Katje. We've been together for 15 years now.
I am polyjamorous but I get hyperfixated on songs or artists sometimes and will listen to them on repeat until they become part of me.
I'm a devotional polytheist and I've been practicing witchcraft for 30+ years.
I talk a lot, which is probably obvious by the length of this post.
What I'll be posting here
Stuff about writing, stuff about my books, generally bookish content, indie publishing, things going on in the indie publishing or tradpub world (if I know about them/have a take).
As well I'll probably talk about TV shows, movies, video games, hobbies like knitting and crochet, my dog Sirius, everyday life stuff...oh, and shitposts. I do like a shitpost.
You will not see anything relating to politics (small-p or large-P) or current events in the world at large. My profiles are no-go zones for those topics.
I always get asked why when I say this, so here is the short explanation: you cannot avoid those topics everywhere on the internet. It's a constant, 24/7 firehose of horror that our brains are actually not equipped to handle and it's destroying our collective health as a species.
I don't wish to be part of that firehose that you can't escape anywhere else. I write the books I do so I can help facilitate some small escape from the horrors of modern life. If I am then sharing those topics on my profile, I am no longer facilitating that escape for readers who may want to follow me on socials.
Other authors have different opinions on this and that's fine, but this is my line in the sand.
I will also unfollow anyone who posts or reblogs anything relating to that. See above about not being able to escape it literally anywhere online (or even in real life). I try to curate my feeds to be as free of it as possible to protect what shreds remain of my mental health.
Thanks for reading this far if you have! Here are some pictures of Sirius to brighten your day:
i'm 40 and i'm as much of a hot mess as i was when i was 20, but i'm getting better about not giving a fuck about what others think. (long, uphill battle that is, what with the rejection sensitivity dysphoria, but i keep fighting.)
but things keep getting better; i keep getting better. my writing is leaps and bounds ahead of where it was when i was 20 and all that happens is i improve. i'm older and wiser.
yeah my body's kinda fucked but tbh i had chronic illness starting in my teens so i don't actually know what it's like to be, you know. not like that.
could do without the insane amount of chin hairs though. like just calm down, body, jesus.
anyway, i'm 40 and life is pretty good and i'm a Leo so i'm celebrating my birthday all month long.

one of the best things about Mulder and Scully’s particular brand of repressed codependency is that they are either so in sync that they are communicating via telepathy and microexpressions or they are somehow missing a point that’s blatantly obvious to everyone else in a 30 ft radius
[This book is intended for mature audiences only.]
August is Read A Romance month so I'm going to humbly suggest my own for your perusal!
FATE'S PROMISE: an Elemental Chemistry prequel
For decades, Priestess Sabina Khar'sheli has lived her life by a single mission.
Sent by the goddess Norcia, to protect one of Her chosen, Sabina is to find Draivarya S'madhara--a politician from the sovereign planet Maya, in a system bordering the edge of the Aradian Empire.
Her task is clear: guide him in his career towards greatness, and help him avoid pitfalls that could spell disaster--not only for him, but for both their peoples.
Too bad he's an infuriating jackass she'd rather guide to the nearest airlock….
✨✨✨✨✨
Fate's Promise is a spicy science-fantasy romance with explicit sex scenes, swearing, lots of banter, some eels, and magic powers in a futuristic space setting!
It is an EXCLUSIVE to my newsletter list and reader membership, which means you can't get it on ebook retailers, but it IS completely free.
You can join my list here.
Or you can join my reader membership at Patreon at any tier (including following!) and get the book there.
BTW: for the month of August 2026, I am running a couple of promos at my Patreon--with the code 40KATS you get 40% off the first month for any tier, except the one I just launched, which is a limited time offer that will close in September. For that one, I'm giving away the first month free to the first 40 members.
NOTE: Fate's Promise is for adult readers only. I didn't mark this post as mature because nothing in the post itself is mature content, but this book absolutely is. Reader discretion is advised.
rough massage and acupuncture today (lying flat on my back for 2 hours tweaked the back injury) so i get to spend the afternoon relaxing and binge watching Vampire Diaries. almost done season 1!
