Out the Shadows

A late-night walk leads Aika Kurogami to an alleyway encounter with a boy whose quirk turns everything he touches into dust. She doesn’t know who he is, but his anger and pain feel all too familiar. Meet Aika Kurogami

Age: 17

Quirk: Inkweaver – Aika can bring her ink-based drawings to life, creating temporary, sentient figures that follow her commands. Her creations are as creative as she is, from monsters to animals, and they last longer the more passionate she feels.

Backstory:

Aika used to attend UA in the hero course, but after a tragic incident where a hero couldn’t save her family, she lost her drive to become a hero. She dropped out at 15 and now lives with her uncle, spending most of her time sketching half-finished drawings in her room, playing video games, and trying to cope with the grief that still haunts her. She meets Shigaraki when they’re both 17, and they slowly form a unique bond over their shared disillusionment with the hero world. They’re rough around the edges but find a strange kind of solace in each other.

Personality

Aika is snarky, sarcastic, and cynical. She often uses humor to hide her emotions but is also thoughtful and creative. Despite her tough exterior, she has a soft side, reflected in the small details of her room—cute stuffed animals, unfinished sketches, and the way she never backs down from helping someone she cares about. She’s an artist who’s lost her inspiration but still carries hope, even if she won’t admit it.

- Aika’s room is filled with anime and video game posters—she's a bit of a nerd at heart!

- She has a complicated relationship with heroes. She doesn’t hate them, but she’s lost faith in what they represent.

- She and Shigaraki bond over video games, art, and their shared sense of being outsiders. He’s the first person she’s truly let into her life since her family died.

- Despite her broken dreams, she’s not a villain. She’s just trying to find her way again.
