THE OFFING

The following four photographs were taken as part of a body of work and the below is the personal artist statement explaining the meaning behind the works.

My choice of subject comes from a deep euphoria I feel for the ocean and the air we breathe. I am particularly drawn and captivated by its ever-changing palette of colours, patterns and its influential energy. I am bewildered by the powerful effect it can have on us as humans and it saddens me that we live in such a fast paced society that the simplistic beauty of mother nature can often be overlooked. I believe by taking the time to glance out at the horizon line, can make one feel more connected to life. It can help one gather thoughts and ideas, ponder and reflect. Its power can act as an escort in creating new beginnings and bring your mind to the 'now'. Within this body of work, I was inspired to compose a series of images documenting the two points where the sky meets the sea. The clarity of the horizon line represents the path we are on navigating through life’s obstacles, with the order of contrasting colours representing ones thoughts and emotions - going from cold and obscure to warm and clear. “The Offing” is the part of the sea visible from shore that is very distant or beyond anchoring ground and acts as a subliminal message for reaching clarity within goals or decisions that have been set, but not yet achieved.
