Opinion: Love Live! Concerts are Anisong Concerts, not Idol Concerts, and should be treated as such
Before I start, let me just preface this by saying I am very much an idol fan and I love the whole idea of yakkai. I love mixing and tigering wherever I can. I wouldnāt do it for Love Live!, but I definitely wish I could.
In recent years Love Live! and other 2.5D idol franchises have been gaining a lot of popularity by linking together both the 2D side and 3D side of the series. This is not limited to the characters and their specific seiyuu either, as many of these franchises take place in real life locations as well allowing for activities like butai meguri. Some of these groups are so popular, they have live viewings of their concerts in various countries outside Japan, and the thought of overseas performances are no longer a dream.
By linking 2D with 3D, these franchises have brought together both anisong and idol fans, which is great, but this results in a culture clash as both sides have very different cultures regarding concerts. In idol concerts, not doing mixes and calls is disruptive because it gives people around you the impression that you are not excited or enjoying the concert, while in anisong concerts, mixing and tigering is disruptive because it ruins the mood of the song and the environment. What this means is that these 2.5D concerts are littered with people from both sides, neither being aware of the other sides concert culture. With Love Live! being a series with a majority of its fans coming from the anisong side, the actions of idol fans are not well accepted, and even yield hostile reactions from the other side. You could bring up the recent rise in popularity of mixing and tigering in anisong concerts as a counter-argument, but I feel this is also a result of 2.5D idol franchises reaching the mainstream.
In regards to the recent Tigers vs ONIBE incident, some people have brought up to me that many of the āproblematicā people at these DVs, who they call tigers, have been to Anisong World Matsuri and so they must have an idea of how an anisong concert works. What I speculate is that those idol fans at AWM just assumed the crowd was filled with casual NA anime fans, people unware of the very existence of calls and penlights, and did not think too much of it. They then went to the 2nd Live delayed viewings and behaved as though they were at a regular idol concert and were frustrated over their actions not being well received. These people most likely assumed that because itās a Love Live! Concert DV, most people there, unlike AWM, must be fellow idol fans, and so they must be accepting of idol culture, completely oblivious to the fact that most Love Livers are anisong fans and idol culture is completely foreign to them, thus complaining about these āyakkaiā fans being disruptive and ruining the mood.
Complaining and trying to explain that these actions are disruptive is not going to help in any way whatsoever because what defines disruptive differs from person to person, especially between the average idol fan and the average anisong fan. This whole issue stems from misinformation. As an idol fan myself, I would like to say that other idol fans should understand that Love Live! lies more on the anisong side rather than the idol side, so they should be considerate and attend these concerts as though they are attending an anisong concert. At the same time, anisong fans should understand that these idol fans are not trying to be rude or disruptive, and are not out to annoy you, but rather theyāre trying to enjoy the live in their own way, and they should try to inform them about the differences between their concert cultures. Being violent and throwing hate towards each other will not help with anything at all, and will only cause turmoil within the fandom. The only way this issue can be resolved is to inform, and be informed.
Special thanks to link2110 for fixing up my Engrish.

Title: Heyo~!
Earphones tips sure are pleasantly squishy arenāt they?Ā Good evening, itās Minami!
Ehh?? Itās already the end of October already? Halloween is almost here? I donāt have a costume planned for myself yet, but our houseās dog already has his (lol) (lol)
Yup. Adorable. (Dumb dog) By the way, yesterday morning this fella was caught committing the crime of sneaking a bite of fish, thus the prisoner look (lol). Hm? You a prison dog???
At any rate, itās finally Fall!! Is what I want to say, but itās already Winter!!! It sure is cold!! (I got my scarf all spun around into a roll) At this rate Iāll barely be able to survive Winter. Oh yeah! On the 20th was the WUG Channel Nico Nico stream! Woohoo! It was the first of such a variety!Ā From beginning to end! (There was even a post-extra braodcast). VarietyĀ (Ā“āĻā`)!!! Other members included Kaya and YoppiĀ āØāØ It was very interesting! We had a guessing game using our Eau De Toilette WUG perfumes, which are being released in December. It was super fun...! The studio really started to smell pleasant! Minamiās scent of passion fruit! With a hint of green apple too ⨠In the end, I felt pretty confident at recognizing my own scent... (lol)
In addition, how about small cans of tuna! That stuff just goes with everything. Eating with honey was all the rage recently, and now I see people trying it condensed milk... (lol)
Next time on November 3rd, the members will be Ai-chan, Yoppi, and me! What kind of games are we going to try next??
It came by in a flash, but the broadcast of Wake Up Girls: Shinshou episode 3 has already arrived!! In that episode, Minami was trying to find out what it meant toĀ ābe herselfā. Iāll do my best too!!!Ā šŖšŖšŖšŖ Who knows whatāll happen next, so look forward to it!
October 21st was Mayān-chanās birthday live, and we went to perform as surprise guests...!
Mayān-chan who joined us on the last leg of our WUG tour, who stood with us on stage at Anisama. This time we got perform with Mayān again on her special day of the year, I was so happy!
There was one really big part of the routine where Mayān has her own dance solo, and at that moment when the members of WUG made a V-formation around her, I was moved beyond words, nearly to the point of tears. It was pretty dangerous. Aaah, me, us, and Mayān-chan witnessing the same view, a view I felt that was shared with everybody there. I felt really glad then, feeling the warmth of the audience too. It really REALLY felt like I was living in a dream ⨠Powerful May-chanās stage was absolutely amazing! Thank you so much!
So on to the weekend, everybody in WUG took part in a particular shoot ā” We also took turns with the staff members to play rousing games of Jin-Roh ā”ē¬ ***TL NOTE: Jin-Roh (aka Werewolf) is a card/tabletop game where you try to determine which of the people in your group among humans, are the werewolves. Link to a demonstration here. WUG plays this often.
Itās such a pleasant scenery, right? The leaves have started to change color. Might you have a clue as to where this location is? Look forward to it.
On to an announcement!Ā
In the smartphone gameĀ āShoujo Zensenā (Girls Frontline), I was allowed to take on the roles of Type 79 Sub-machine Gun, Serdyukov SPS Handgun, and Dragunov Sniper Rifle!
It's currently a game being developed in China, but the Japanese servers are currently being set up as we speakĀ āŖ Anyways, these girls are so cute and charming!! Look forward to more details in the future! ***TL NOTE: So think of this as Kancolle but for guns
On October 30th, WUG will be making an appearance on Ani-Reco TV to advertise our new fragrances and do a short performance. The broadcast will be at late-night at 3:20AM. Please watch it if you can!!
Now then!
Along with Seria-chan (Fukagawa Seria) I got to dress up as Little Red Riding Hood!! I really dressed to match the oncoming occasion...Ā I was also really glad to receive candy from our listeners! Letās all have fun during Halloween!!Ā Next week,Ā iāRisā Yu-chan (Serizawa Yu) and Kubotan (Kubota Miyu) will be on the show! Their new album is finally on sale! Enjoy it!!

Title: Itās Summer Aināt It?
I bought some Toorimon for my family but it ended up disappearing in a matter of seconds!Ā **TL Note: Toorimon is a special confectionery/sweets from Fukuoka
Good evening itās me, Minami!
I really like Riichi-san lots... This time around I was watching Summer Wars on Kin Ro (Japanese TV channel). Itās one of my favorite movies. So when I was a student watching it in theaters, I was like TOTALLY TOTALLY TOTALLY in love with Riichi-san, but the kids around me at that time didnāt get me so it felt kind of lonely. I still love you, Riichi-san...
On August 18th was WUG Channel! With Kaya-tan, Mayushii, and I, we gathered Team Bio... (lol). This time around we playedĀ āMinna de Wai Wai! Spelunker!āĀ āThe 3 weakest heroes in history, but theyāve gathered to work together āŖ ā It was totally fun and I wish I couldāve played forever (lol).Ā Thanks for sending so much mail!!! I also really enjoyed the Explosive Shiritori at the end of the show~!! The restrictions were really tough to play with!! (lol) Please keep up with the timeshift of our shows and give us a watch āŖ
Also I pulled these on the way home!
Yay! Yay! I got Swimsuit Nitocris up to Noble Phantasm level 5 ā” I feel accomplished. You did it, Tanaka! I did it! Iām sooo happy... I picked these up quicker than I expected. Along the way I picked up cute girls like Marie, Dionn, and Anne-MaryĀ ššššĀ For those 3, I got them all up to NP 5!!! And inevitably I also I picked up Swimsuit Nero to NP 5 too. She kept on coming to me within 10 consecutive days fromĀ āOur Holy Grail Warā. Even though she didnāt come to me at all as Bride Nero!!! Geez! So cute! But Iām glad to have such a surplus on Noble Phantasms, and with such cute ones tooā” I also have to keep in mind to raise the other swimsuit servants too! **TL NOTE: But I got no swimsuit servants thooooooooo TT_TT
WUG 4th Live Tour in Fukuoka! This year we came back to Fukuoka!
At the live house, the distance between us and the audience was pretty close! We got to sing Platinum Sunrise after a long time! I was pretty nervous but it was still really fun ⨠Yoppi had to remember how to do it back during our rehearsal. It was a little different than it used to be, so I guess this was the 2017 version? (lol) I felt a little out of order singing it.
The water cooked Toorimon that Yoppiās mom dropped off was so delicious ā” I also got my family mentaiko as a gift! I was very pleased āØĀ It was really great meeting Yoppiās family and friends too  ⨠Weāll do our best to come to Fukuoka again! Thank you very much!
Finally, we got to officially meet with the girls from Run Girls Run ā”ā”
Hayamaru, Mocchi, Acchan Theyāre all so cute!! Aaaa!!!! So PURE!! NUWAAAH!!! I really wanted to meet them šššš Mocchi wrote about it on her blog too. Title: Jimemi~(č>Ļ
Hello, itās Minami! Lately Iāve had the privilege to record a wonderful song! Iām so glad to have completed it! I really want everybody to listen to it as soon as possible! I canāt stop all this excitement!
The latest chapter of Scorching Ping Pong Girls! Itās being serialized in Tonari no Young Jump but the last chapter with Ariga-chan! She was so cool that I got goosebumps! I really hope it gets animated again so everybody can watch it!
Itās summer vacation time now! Although the Obon Festival holiday has already passed⦠I wonder where everybody else went? When I was a student, I used to stay over at my grandmotherās house for a while and play games with my cousin. I remember riding my bicycle along the rice paddy roads too~
Putting aside all that nostalgia, I went bowling with the cast of Assassination Classroom! ***TL Note: Minami voiced Okano Hinata in Assassination Classroom
I-i-it was lots of fun!Ā
It was the best! Back then my scores used to be filled with gutter balls, but⦠This time around I kept on getting spares, and by some miracle I got a strike! I was so happy!!! Next time I hope to get a score over 120! Later that day we had dinner which was so delicious!
Iām glad we were able to keep up with each other share our stories with each other ever after we finished recording for the series. Those days back then with Assassination Classroom were really great. I was so nervous back then, but Iām so glad to have gone through such a meaningful experience.
So I heard that #OurHolyGrailWar was trending on Twitter. Some time ago we did a group pull in FGO including Kana Ueda and Mafia-san. During that time I was the first to pull Caster Nero, heheh. I usually do pulls by myself but it was really pleasant doing it together with other people. I donāt have a Twitter account, so I was really grateful that Takahashi Rie-san could put out my gacha pulls! Iām thankful.
So the result was Caster Nero, 2 Fran-chans, 2 Nobus, and a bunch of event craft essence. Umu, I got the whole rotation. As soon as I pulled Caster Nero, I could feel the entire room shaking because of Kajita Mafia-san lol. Even though I rolled Nobu multiple times, I could only draw Nito just onceā¦
Before I knew it I had already done 20 ten rolls since the first day of the event and max leveled Nito as soon as I could. In total during the group pull, we had 10 Sheets Nito pulled. But then overnight, Bun-san had drawn 5 Nitos (You did it!) Also, when Abe-san got Waver, he sent it to Mita-san. Kana-san just got Holmes. And Shimazaki couldnāt really get anything⦠Overall it was such a chaotic but fun time! I was pretty happy!
I got Nero to NP lvl 2! Woooow, kids these days sure grow fast! However, I still havenāt given up on getting my Nito to Noble Phantasm level 5! Iāll report it as soon as I do! Iām looking forward to the second part of the event! I hope you all enjoy it too!
Now then, on the 11th I went to the Rara Maji event at Summer Comiket! I was so glad to see lots of Tuners there! I love Tsubasa! Quite a few people told that she was their oshi! I also got her t-shirt! So many people tried pulling for Yukata Tsubasa, I could feel their overflowing love!
So when looking at Tsubasaās story⦠Thereās some part of her that even Iām still not aware of. Hurry up Tsubasaās story! Is how I feel lol. I was glad to have talked a lot about the game. Thanks for sticking around during the hot weather! Please continue supporting Tsubasa-chan!
And then on the 13th, was WUGās 4th Live Tour in Oomiya!
I really love our white one piece dresses. Whenever we did spins itād go āHIRA HIRA~~~!ā Occasionally Iād get blown away a little lol.
It was our 2nd time there but I was so glad so many people came! Yup yup, after going through so many venues I can see everybody quite clearly now. In the past I was really frantic about myself and I couldnāt get a good view of everyone. With that in mind, I tried relaxing a little more at lives. Yoppi, on the other hand, told me that itās very unlikely for me not to cross eyes with anybody at a live lol.
At the Oomiya performance I felt the audience even more. I want to try my hardest at lives and have everyone enjoy it! Iāll do my best! And thatās that!
So this time around a new gacha has started! Granblue Fantasy Swimsuit gacha! Thereās Swimsuit Diansa along with Linaria too! But anyways thereās a ton of voices on that card! Linariaās swimsuit is so cuuuute! Everyone is so cuuuuuuute~! My eeyes! Please please try hard to get them!
Another thing! The DVD of āWake Up Girls, Pajama Party Ganbappe!ā was released at Comiket! I wonder if there were some people who bought it?? It has me acting how I usually do outside of work, so I hope you watch it! It sure was fun playing a werewolf lol.
Also the PriPara Christmas Dream Live is out now on DVD and Bluray too! In it I sang in the units Triangle and NonSugar!Ā ***TL Note: Minamiās characters in the series are Pinon (aka Non Manaka), Junon, and Kanon. Those 3 characters make up the entirety of Triangle, while Non Manaka is part of the newer unit, NonSugar.
My performance with TriangleĀ was⦠Interesting. I was pretty frantic there too, yep lol. It was Non-Sugarās first time performing so weāre looking forward to more performances! Thank you very much!
Come forth to everyone, Swimsuit Nitocris!Ā
PS Her 2nd swimsuit form is really ādangerousā lol ***TL Note: BLESS THAT SWEET NITO ASS(assin)
What a great time to become an FGO fan again, just in time to find this at a convention
Wake Up, Mayān Famitsu Interview
*** TL Note: The kanjiĀ ē¬ written in the interview is the equivalent of lol, so it symbolizes laughter from that person.
First off, Wake Up Mayān. How did such a collaboration come to be? Can you tell us how this all started?
Mayān: It was at an event in 2016, the Nendoroid 10th Anniversary Live I think it was called, and thatās where I first saw Wake Up, Girls. I took a look at their stage performance, and it was just love at first sight. Right after their performance ended I tweeted them saying āThey were shining so bright!!ā. After that, I watched all of the anime and from there I became a huge fan. Sometime after, whenever Iāve met up with WUGās staff theyāve told me how much they liked me, so I told them āLetās sing together then!ā So from there we got to collab and sing together for one night at Anime Jam 2016. That event made me realize how popular such a unit could be. It was pretty unexpected.
Seeing how youāre an artist too, or really a fan, this mustāve come as a huge surprise for you.
Thatās right, Iām just your average fan.
Did you two [Nanami and Miyu] see the tweets?
Miyu: It was such a popular topic among the members! āThat Mayān-san?! Interested in US?!?!ā
Nanami: āShe saw all of the anime??ā āIn such a short amount of time?!ā All the members were sort so giddy after hearing that.
(ē¬) By the way Mayān-san, whoās your oshi from the group? ***TL Note: Oshi is term for most liked member of an idol group.
Mayān: I get asked that pretty often, but I really love all 7 members!
You really do support each and every one of them donāt you?
Mayān: Yes. When I first saw them on stage, seeing them sweat from all that energy and passion, I just thought they were amazing. I could also feel a sort strong bond between the fans too. That sensation I felt then was what got me to start watching the anime. That feeling still hasnāt left me even to this day. My impression of them grew over time, and theyāre still full of so much passion!
(To Miyu and Nanami) So itās like that.
Nanami: Ahhh! Iām so glad I was sweating!!
Miyu: And here I tend to worry a lot about sweating.
Mayān: Is that so?!
Nanami: WUGās uniform has long sleeves and it tends to get really hot.
Miyu: During the summer we usually wear the āShoujo Koukyoukyokuā uniforms pretty often. And conversely with āBeyond the Bottomā, we wear these thin white garments during the winter. So with that, WUG is really thrown all over the place haha!Ā (ē¬)
So back to Anime JAM, how did all of you from WUG feel about that collaboration?
Miyu: Of course we knew about Mayān even before we started our work as Wake Up, Girls. Sheās such a big name Anisong artist! Every time we heard her voice, we would be like āWHAT DO WE DO!?!?! OUR EARS ARE SO EXCITED!!!ā, especially during her solo.
Nanami: Waa! We were so happy!
Miyu: Mayushii was like āWow, what do I do?! Mayān is singing my solo part!ā (ē¬)
Mayān: Me too! I was thinking āAhh⦠I wonder if itās alright for me to do this, because this is Mayushiiās part after all!!ā I was really conflicted then. (ē¬)
WUG and Mayān at Anime JAM 2016
Speaking of which, Mayān-san. How did it feel singing āTachiagareā?
Mayān: Learning the dance was pretty difficult. On top of that, I also had to learn to sing a new song. WUG being able to have the strength to continue singing and dancing together really makes me admire them even more! But because I love WUG so much, I wanted to persevere and properly present their song, Tachiagare. Since it was a collab after all, I studied and trained as hard as I could saying things like āSo this move goes like so, right?ā and āIāll also dance to this part too!ā
Miyu: I remembered a lot of things from past rehearsals, so after all that time I felt like I became a master.
Nanami: Right? The rehearsal went smoothly and was completed in the blink of an eye.
WUGners really do go all out donāt they? (ē¬)Ā Have your impressions of Mayān changed after meeting her?
Nanami: During Anime JAM we wore our uniforms from the song āBokura no Frontierā which is a light blue color. In accordance, Mayān-san chose to wear clothes that were a similar style to ours. So at first, we all had this image of Mayān-san being ācoolā, but since that event we came to learn that sheās a really kind and friendly person. We were just so happy.
Miyu: We usually had this image in our heads of Mayān-chan in tanks tops and short pants thinking āSO COOOOOL!ā but then we were like āMAYāN-CHAN IN A SKIRT?! AAAAAAAH SO CUUUUTE!ā
Mayān: Thank you.Ā (ē¬)
How about you Mayān-san? Has your impression of WUG changed as well?
Mayān: I get this feeling from them that they all have this place where they want to be. Striving hard to reach a goal. They do so many things like music videos, modeling for photos, and etc. They even practice a lot during their free time too. I felt really drawn to them because of that. Even now my impression of them hasnāt changed, but more like itās been reaffirmed.
I see. On to another subject, what are your favorite songs from each other?
Mayān: Mine has to be Beyond the Bottom. Seeing WUG perform that song was what made me fall for them. Seeing them in that white one-piece, singing and dancing frantically with their hair flying about while also perspiring. I thought of it as something āsacredā.
It really felt like you were watching a drama of sorts wasnāt it?
Mayān: Thatās right! Just like that! Because of that I really wanted to follow WUG-chan and ended up watching the entire anime series.
Nanami: That really makes happy⦠Iām so glad weāve been trying so hard up to now.
How about you two? What are your favorite songs from Mayān?
Miyu: For me it would have to be⦠āDiamond Crevasseā!
Nanami: Ah! Thatās what I wanted to say!
Miyu: (ē¬)Ā Iāll like any song, but during the Aniuta Live 2017 (AniUpa) I was listening to the song from backstage. When I heard it I got goosebumps! It felt like a song from the heart. It really moved me. I was like āFor some reason Iām crying!ā (ē¬)
Nanami: My choice is also the same, āDiamond Crevasseā. It was also at AniUpa 2017, when I heard it I could feel it giving courage but also moving me to tears. āWhat are these feelings??ā Weāll never forget that figure and powerful performance. At that time, we felt like we wanted to do a performance that would be just as deep as that.
Mayān: Thanks so much!
Mayān performing at AniUpa 2017
Miyu: āBeliefā is also a really cool song!
Nanami: It really does have an amazing sensation.
Miyu: The song has wide range and depth to it!
Nanami: Yup, I agree.
(Everybody laughs)
Miyu: I also think your cute songs are pretty great too.
Mayān: Really? (ē¬)Ā Thank you!
So tell us, Wake Up Mayān! One kind of song is One In a Billion?
Mayān: The title of the anime itās a theme song for, āRestaurant to Another Worldā, holds a hint. āA once in a lifetime encounterā is the theme of the song. I feel like itās something that was created because of my meeting with WUG. Itās a song that gives me the hope and excitement to explore the unknown.
Nanami: Itās the opening theme of āRestaurant to Another Worldā after all, so youāll hear some cute words like āPeko Pekoā sprinkled like spice onto the lyrics.
Miyu: It really is a song that brings out excitement. Just like Mayān-chan said, this song wouldnāt be a thing if it werenāt for WUG and Mayān meeting. In the first half of the song, weāre divided into singing our own parts, but during the last part we end up coming together. I think itās a great song.
So Mayān and WUG come as one later in the song.
Miyu: Yes. Itās an important point in the song, and I hope people give it a good listen.
Is there any part of the song that feels different from your past ones?
Nanami: The lyrics in the song feel really bright, whereas some of WUGās song lyrics feel pretty dark. (ē¬)
Mayān: Thatās pretty surprising.Ā (ē¬)
Nanami: When I first went over the lyrics, I was so surprised that I said āItās so blinding!!ā
Mayān: I thought so too.Ā (ē¬)
Miyu: We really did have the same thing in mind.Ā (ē¬)
Mayān: But still, I was glad to have basked in WUG-chanās cuteness. It felt really refreshing to sing a song that was brimming so much with smiles and cheer. A lot of my songs donāt carry that kind of energy.
Haha, it must feel like walking into a dark house when you come home.
Mayān: Well theyāre just lyrics, yāknow.Ā (ē¬)
What can we expect when listening to One In A Billionļ¼
Miyu: At first the song starts off with a relaxing and slow tempo, but once the doors are opened a rush of energy just flows through. I hope itās something that a lot of people will look forward to.
Nanami: Before the chorus, we have a part where we say āFU! SION! MIX! CHA!ā. Lyrics like that kind of feel like thereās some sort of communication going on between a cook and their customers. Iād like people to enjoy that.
Mayān: Lots of food words are inserted throughout the song, but there are also the words āLike and Dislikeā too to show that thereās lots of things that link food and life together. I want people to pay close attention to those parts. Also, I hope that some WUG fans can discover me the way I discovered them. It makes me excited for what the future holds and what kind of people Iāll encounter along the way.
So WUG, you performed at Osaka for the first time. What was it like?
Nanami: We were wondering what the audience would be like since it was our first performance their after all, but we were really well received.
Miyu: Their excitement just exploded!
Nanami: We thought āThank goodness!ā And during the later partsĀ we just sang.
Mayān: Dancing itself mustāve been difficult.
Miyu: It was pretty hard. The bar for WUG has definitely been raised as of late.
Nanami: So in our setlist we sang āKoi de Ai de Bokun Desuā and after that we sang āOne In a Billionā.
Mayān: Eeh?! Wow! So itās just one dance after another!
Nanami: Yep! And even after that we still had character songs to performā¦
Miyu: It was really exhausting. (lol)
(Everybody laughs)
Mayān-san, what are your thoughts on singing and dancing during music videos?
Mayān: Iāve had experience performing with other dancers while being in the center, but I did have face some difficulties during changes in formation. In regards to positioning, Iām used to a 0.5 spaced increments. WUG on the other hand uses formations with .25 spaced increments, which Iām not used to at all (ē¬). Even though I wasnāt used to the spacing, I felt like I could match up my rhythm pretty well with the people next to me.
Editorās note: Singers will usually be in the center of performances with their location being marked as 0. So with .5 space increments the dancers on both sides of her, the locations of each performer would be like so: 1.5 .5 ->1-> 1.5 The smaller the increment space, the more complex the formations tend to be.
Nanami: There certainly were some tricky details.
Miyu: We did have quite a few patterns.
Nanami: It certainly varies with each song, but the A and B melodies and chorus were pretty different from each other. Our dance instructor, Satomi-sensei, was very particular about our choreography/formations and wanted to look beautiful.
I see. So after all of that, did you end up having an even deeper respect for WUG?
Mayān: Yes. Dancing in formations has always been a specialty of WUGās, but I found myself a little panicked when I tried doing it too.
So you say the dancing in itself was pretty difficult, but did you have any other troubles when recording the music video?
Miyu: The dance scenes with the bread was pretty tricky.
Ah, I see that scene where you looked like you were kneading the bread. Eh? Wait, did you have to learn that on the spot?
Mayān: Yes, because there were solo cuts within that segment, we practiced independently between those breaks. Everybody else was learning it quickly, so I had to ask the people next to me āPlease show me how to do it! Just one more time!ā (ē¬). I messed up a lot during the filming, which is why Iām glad we were just recording a music video.
Wow, itās a video made up of so many trying moments. Were there any other highlights?
Nanami: I donāt know if you can notice it, but thereās this scene where a boy walks through the door and when everybody notices the boy they stopped what they were doing. For my part I kind of had to stumble a bit while holding the plates. It was pretty hard to act like I was stumbling so evertime in my head I would think āThis doesnāt seem right.ā (ē¬)
Miyu: (ē¬) In the scene where we were making sandwiches, everybody had to look as if they were fighting the camera. So everybody was handed a kitchen utensil, so I wondered what I would get. But they told me āTakagi-san, youāre going to do a chopping motion with your hands.ā I was like āEEEHHHHHHH?!ā I was expecting to be handed a really big kitchen utensil or something!
Mayān: I see! So thatās why you were being so ecstatic with those rolling pins!
Oh, so a cutting motion was what you were trying to go for.
Miyu: Yes, thatās right (ē¬)
Mayān: I thought those hands looked very pretty (ē¬). Ā My highlight for the music video is their solo cuts. In those parts it looked like they were saying āExcuse me, can I have your attention?ā. Even though they didnāt say it out loud, everybody would pay attention anyways (ē¬). As a WUGner I felt really satisfied with those scenes.
I agree, everybody really did look adorable.
Mayān: When a different girl was up recording their cut, everybody was like āKyaa! So cute~! So cool~!ā
The cool part mustāve been referring to Yoshioka Mayu-san right?
***Yoshioka Mayu
Mayān: Thatās rightĀ (ē¬).
Nanami: All the members got to see Mayushiiās parts (ē¬).
Miyu: Kaya was the most noisy then, saying āWhoa whoa whoa! Those hands! Look at them hands go!ā
There are quite a few WUG fans in WUG arenāt their? (lol)
MiyućEverybody was having a lot fun with each other (ē¬).
So this time around, the first limited edition set comes with a bluray that comes with the music video in different angles. Are there any promising scenes to look for?
Miyu: Are alternate angles something people would enjoy?
Advertisement Team: At the top of the screen for the bluray thereās an option to watch the normal version of the music video. Thereās also another version where people can watch and enjoy the dance version of the song.
Man, thatās something I really want. The formations look so visually appealing and the dance itself is something I really want to take a look at.
Miyu: This is the first time WUG has shot a full version dance video, so I hope you watch it!
Nanami: We did our best swinging around from the dancing, so I hope you enjoy it!
Miyu: Mayān-chan was also pretty cool when dancing too! We did a formation together after all!
Mayān: I really tried my hardest (ē¬)! Having 8 people dancing and singing in a music video isnāt something you see very often, so Iām very happy that we got the opportunity to do this.
So then thereās also another song in the single as well, called āKingās Cadenzaā ēę§ć®ć«ćć³ćć”ćWhat kind of song is it?
Miyu: In comparison to āOne In A Billionā, āKingās Cadenzaā is a sort of relaxing song that gives off a sweet feeling thatās kind of fluffy. In the beginning you can hear us say āPaPaPa-nā which is a sort of fanfare made up of our own voices.
Nanami: The song also has a kind of stylish vibe to it.
Mayān: It certainly does show off an adultās cute charms.
Is it your first time singing this particular style of song?
Mayān: Hmm, I donāt think itās something Iāve really done before. What about WUG?
Miyu: We havenāt done it either.
Mayān: Lyrically, the theme is about a ānaked kingā. But the term ānaked kingā isnāt used in a bad context. The things you see before you arenāt the only things you can believe in right? You yourself are the only one that can experience what life has to offer and you choose what beliefs to hold, is what those lyrics are. I think that sort of feeling is also in āOne In a Billionā.
I see, thatās pretty deep.
Miyu: It really is deep. Itās my favorite song.
What are some highlights in the song?
Mayān: The first part of the song where everyone was doing that fanfare was really cute. Ā I felt like everybody could sing full of smiles and energy with weightless shoulders.
WUG Manager: The fanfare part is especially pretty interesting. We wanted to make it pretty distinctive so there would be directions like āSay it more childlikeā, but then thereād be āSing it a little more matureā but then theyād also say āSing it a little more stupid-likeā.Ā (ē¬)
(ē¬) . I wonder which person was singing in that kind of voice.
Miyu: Originally the fanfare part wasnāt supposed to be there, but someone made a request to do it while we were recording.
I see, so thatās what happened.
Miyu: Thatās why some of the members had a hard time understanding the directions. I hope people can pay close attention to that part.
Mayān: āOne In a Billionā is a really great song to do live, whereas Kingās Cadenza has a cute charm to it. When singing those two songs I thought āWow! So I really can sing a wider variety!ā I felt really thrilled to increase my repertoire. I really feel that there wasnāt a single wasted moment, and am very glad to have worked on this single.
Iād certainly like to see more of Wake Up, Mayān. Are there any other things that you would like to do together as WUM?
Nanami: I really want Mayān to make a debut appearance in the anime world!
Mayān: Could I be in the new WUG anime coming out?Ā (ē¬)
Miyu: Aaah! Iād definitely want to see that happen!
New TV anime, Wake Up, Girls! Shin Shou premiering October 22, 2017.
Nanami: If Mayān became a 2D character, then she could play herself and the characters would end up meeting in the anime too. Ā (ē¬)
That way you could consult to a pretty experienced person. (ē¬)
Miyu: After that I want to do a live as Wake Up, Mayān! I wonder if weāll do it at the release event? Hmmmā¦
Speaking of which, you have a release event taking place on August 9th. Tell us how excited you are for that.
Mayān: All 8 of us will be there together, which is a somewhat rare opportunity. Even though itās a weekday, I hope a lot of people come.
Miyu: Itās the first time all of us will be performing together as Wake Up, Mayān. I hope you look forward to it.
Nanami: When on tour we have 7 members, but with Mayān-chan added into the group our songs have a different sensation. I hope that anybody that watched us on tour can see the difference.
Thank you very much! Now this question might seem different from the others, but since One In a Billion is the opening of Restaurant to Another World, please tell us what your favorite foods are!
Mayān: Itās not related to āRestaurant to Another Worldā in any way, but I really like taiyaki! To me, taiyaki in a way is something thatās full of good will! Iād like taiyaki and other Japanese sweets to be enjoyed by people all over the world.
Miyu: Mine would be⦠Meat. Is what I would like to say, but whenever I go out to eat yakiniku Iād usually order a lot of Chanja! (ē¬)
Mayān: Wait, I order lots of that too! I love it!
Miyu: Eh, you eat it too?? I reaaaally love it too! Chanja and Yuke!
Mayān: Yup, I also order lots of Yuke too!
You two are pretty like-minded it seems (ē¬).
***TL Note: Yuke (left), also called Yukhoe in Korea, is a dish composed of thinly sliced raw beef with seasoning. Chanja (right) is spicy cod innards. It is also called LĆ bĆ n xuÄyĆŗ nĆØizĆ ng in China.
Nanami: For my favorite food, I really like Japanese style omelette rice.
Mayān: Ah! Me too!
Nanami: I really like it Japanese styled, with lots of mushrooms in it too.
Mayān: Hey thatās my favorite style too! Youāre really asking for it now, Nanami!
Nanami: Eeh!! Ā My stomach feels kinda weird! (ē¬) Other than how I prepare it, I really liked how my Grandmother would make it, adding eggplants on top. Itās a really cherished memory of mine.
So thereās a precious memory like that involved with cooking. Mayān-san, can you cook?
Mayān: My meals tend to be messy, but I am pretty good at making Omurice and Oyakodon. People say that egg dishes are pretty difficult to make, but I think I do a pretty good job.
Wow thatās pretty impressive. Nanami-san, you cook for yourself too, correct?
Nanami: Thatās right. The other WUG members arenāt really good at cooking, so that gives me the privilege of being that only character in a group that can cookĀ (ē¬).
Haha, Miyu-san, howās your cooking?
Miyu: Well I really just cook Java Curry (ē¬).
Nanami: Just Java Curry?!?! (ē¬)
Miyu: Using curry ingredients I can also make meat and potatoes too! I try not use the kitchen knife as much as possible so I tend to buy refrigerated vegetable mixes. With that I can make curry pretty quick.
I see (ē¬). Also, since we usually cover games with our media outlet, what type of games have you been playing lately?
Mayān: For me, Iāve been playing āMario Kart 8ā³ on the Nintendo Switch so much that Iāve been skipping out on sleep! Itās just so much fun! Itās crazy! Ā It has to be my favorite game of all time right now.
Nanami: Mario Kart huh~?
Miyu: It sounds fun!
Mayān: It really is great to live in age where people all around the world can play online and race each other at anytime. Iām not really good at playing video games though. Iām not really good with games with complex controls, but Mario Kart is different. The controls feel simple. Thatās why I like it, because itās straightforward. Also, I tend to play while using a Mii with my face on it so Iām like āMay-san!! Do your best!ā cheering her on while I play (ē¬). My Mii will also cry too when she loses. Thatās why I like to play everyday just so I can see her smiling face.
Have you ever played any of the past Mario Karts?
Mayān: Mario Kart has been around for a long time so Iāve played it often.
Miyu-san, what type of games do you like?
Miyu: I havenāt really played any recent games, but I have been playing the smartphone version of āMushihime-samaā lately. The enemies and bullets are quite troublesome, but seeing them explode is quite a refreshing feeling I enjoy. Itās also pretty fun getting through a pinch with the boss battles so I just pull through it.
***TL Note: Mushihime-sama is bullet hell video game, similar to Touhou. It was also released in the US on Steam.
So you like shooters. What about you Nanami-san?
Nanami: I donāt really play video games, but I have been playing āHachigatsu no Cinderellaā and āSoul Reversalā, games with WUG members in them. I always wonder if Iāll end up rolling the members in the gacha. Usually itās somehow easy for me to get my own characters, but it gets pretty dicey when I try rolling for the other WUG members (ē¬). Itās so worrisome.
I can imagine (ē¬). To change the topic, how do you spend your days off?
Mayān: I spend it at the gym. I love to kickbox. Whenever I have free time, I try to kickbox. Iāve been doing it for about a year and a half now.
I wonder which WUG members would be susceptible to a lowkick (ē¬) .
Miyu: I wish Minami and Yoppi good luckĀ (ē¬).
Theyāre pretty small arenāt they?
Nanami: Thatās right.
What kinds of thing do you when kickboxing at the gym?
Mayān: I donāt do matches, but I do train with my trainer. The constant movement really helps clear my head. I go to the gym alone whenever I have something on my mind.
So you havenāt had any matches yet?
Mayān: Not yet.
You havenāt wanted to try it at least once?
Mayān: I would like to! (ē¬)
(ē¬) WhatĀ about you Miyu-san? What do you do on your days off?
Miyu: I havenāt really done it recently, but I guess playing the drums. Back in March 2017 during a solo event, I played the drums for a song my character sang.
Mayān: Wow thatās impressive!
Miyu: Although I canāt really sing and play drums at the same time (strained laugh). So thatās when I started playing the drums. It was a lot of fun. I used to practice for about 3 hours, and Iād be so focused that time would fly by so quick. By the time it ended Iād be surprised that itād gotten so dark. After lessons ended I wanted to get back to playing again as soon as possible.
What is it about playing the drums do you find fun?
Miyu: Feeling the change in pressure when I play and moving my legs to the rhythm. The sensation of making music with my body is really interesting.
How do you spend your days off Nanami-san?
Nanami: Me, well I like to throw things away.
Mayān: Ehh?!
Do you not have any attachment to material things?Ā (ē¬)
Nanami: Itās not like that, but sometimes Iāll find clothes that I bought about 2 years ago. So I go through my pile of clothing, throwing away things I donāt need and choosing the ones I want to keep. At the end of the day I feel pretty refreshed.
Mayān: Iām envious~.
Are you the type that likes to collect everything?
Mayān: My house kind of looks like Don QuijoteĀ (ē¬).
***TL Note: Don Quixote (Donki for short) is a convenience store that carries a wide range of products, like clothes, souvenirs, electronics, groceries, and etc.
(Everybody laughs)
Iām sure there are a lot of other people like you, Mayān-san, that find it hard to throw things away.
Mayān: I also really like hippos! Just with hippo plushies alone, I have 700!
Miyu: EH?! ***TL Note: WTF
Mayān: Also, I have a ton of figures. Some people may find my place to be pretty fun or pretty messy. Sometimes people will say āYou gotta calm down!ā (ē¬) Ā
Miyu: I really like Donki, so Iām probably the type that would like it (ē¬).
Weād love to hear more of your private lives, but we have to end things soon. Do you have any messages for the readers?
Nanami: This time around Wake Up, Mayān has sung a few songs together. At first it was difficult to call ourselves Wake Up, Mayān since it was hard to call Mayān-chan without any honorifics, but after getting to know her I can confidently say āWe are Wake Up, Mayān!ā. The 8 of us will be performing as one unit at a release event so I hope you can watch and have fun!
Miyu: With the Mayān we were able to meet, weāll be releasing our single on August 9th. Iām really looking forward to meeting the people thatāll be at the release event! I hope to hear things like āWUM-chan ganbatte!ā I hope to hear a lot people call us WUM-chan.
Mayān: Iāve never really done this kind of collaboration before, so when they first announced a collab team up with WUG, it felt out of this world. Everybody felt like it was some rare out of this world unit. However, I felt a sense of security like Iāve been doing this for a long time. Itās not something that may seem absolute in the future, but I definitely want to do this again. I want people to believe that itās not just a festive song just because itās a collaboration between two performers, but I want them to really enjoy it as one unit.

Tanaka Minami WUG Blog: 08/02/17
Title: Eternal Blue...
Foreward: Hey guys, so I translated Minami Tanaka's latest blog post and a majority of it is about her time spent at the FGO 2nd Anniversary event. As some of you may know, she also hosts the Chaldea Radio program with Rie Takahashi and they are both known to be pretty avid/hardcore fans of the Fate franchise. I'm a beginner translator and there may be quite a few discrepancies from the source text, but I hope I'm able to convey the emotions that she felt when she attended the event.Ā
Hello, itās me Minami!
So the first week of the month has already arrived!
On the 28thĀ of July, Wake Up Girls had some R&R! Airi, Nanami, and I went over and played at New Minna no GOLF! I never played mini-golf before but I had tons of fun anyways! In the beginning I was doing splendidly well in 1stĀ place, but during the second half I had no idea what was going on!
Then on the 29thĀ and 30thĀ I got to attend the Fate/Grand Order 2ndĀ Anniversary celebration event!
On the 29th: The Chaldea Radio Stage Show started at an early 10am, however so many people came to watch the event, especially on Nico Nico! Thanks to all the people who made it!
The guest that joined us on the show was the voice of Arturia and Anne Bonnie from Fate/Grand Order, Ayako Kawasumi-san! Our first guest of the show really was the best possible one! āØ
During the Gesture Game I felt pretty confident since Iāve been playing with Passion Lip a lot lately. I thought I expressed her pretty well. It was a such a short time on stage, about 30 minutes, but I was so happy to hear that ArchTuria came home (to Kawasumi-san w).
I stayed till the end of the anniversary event while watching it from under the stage but⦠THE FGO STAGE PLAY PORTION WENT BY SO FAST! It really felt like time was accelerated! Rie-chan screamed āI NEED TO GET THE BLURAY FOR THIS!!!ā
Finally with the last stage event, Fate Memorial, I could hear the gates of Heaven calling my name⦠Once Zero and Unlimited Blade Works became connected, his story began⦠If I ever have the time, I need to look back at it all. Yup, I really do love Ā UBW Shirouās hotblooded battles.
All in all, what seemed like a dream before became a reality with this stage event. But wait thereās still one more day left! What to do?!
Then came the 30th:
Our guest for the Chaldea Radio Stage that day was the seiyuu for Arjuna, Edmond Dantes, and Fujimaru Ritsuka, Shimazaki Nobunaga-san! Finally! FINALLY! I was able to talk a TON about Fate. However, it was really unfortunate that there wasnāt enough time to talk more! There were so many more things I wanted to hear too. Iāll definitely make sure to talk about the things I wanted to talk about on the next radio show!
The FGO Chaldea radio show! I feel really blessed to be a part of it. I was so nervous when I first appeared as a guest, but regardless Iām glad I was able to share latest information with you all! Even though I was a nervous wreck, Iām glad Rule Breaker blessed me with its magical effects.
After the broadcast I was able to pull Sherlock Holmes! As soon as I saw Holmesā Noble Phantasm animation, I screamed like a little girl. In addition I drew another 5 star servant with a 10 pull, Davinci-chan! I was so glad to pull 2 Servants with amazing Noble Phantasms! But honestly, the hype from the FGO Stage Play still persisted especially since Davinci returned to me in some shape or form.
Now that the news has been revealed I can finally talk about Swimsuit Nitocris! Yaaaaaaaaaaaay! Iām happy! Iām so so happy!!!! I honestly didnāt expect such amazing news! Iām also really looking forward to Nobu and Maid Saber Alter! I wasnāt the only one that thought that Maid Saber Alter was reminiscent of that one episode of Carnival Phantasm, haha.
The last day of the FGO Memorial Stage... It really was wonderfulā¦
Even after the event with the FGO Radio Stage show, I couldnāt stop the tears when looking back. While on the train back home, I was listening to Eternity Blue (FGO ED song) and the lyrics really made me cry. Iām so glad to have come across this amazing franchise called Fate, and pour so much love into it. Being able to talk about Fate for 2 days with everybody just filled me with so much emotion that I couldnāt stop the tears.
Hereās just a portion of these wonderful memories!
I also had the pleasure of getting inside the Fate/Apocrypha itasha car! Ahhh what a moving experience! The time to have made use of my driverās license finally arrived! Check out Nitocrisā formal clothing! Itās so cute!
I told myself I wouldnāt talk about the FGO Radio show again, I do apologize. However, I do want to say that it was an incredible event! It was so much fun! Iām so thankful!!
And then⦠At that same day and location, Run Girls, Run made their debut! I really wanted to see them ;_; It really didnāt seem like Coco-chanās, Yuuka-chanās, and Nanami-chanās first time on stage. It really was an impressive stage performance! We havenāt met in person yet but I sent them a comment video. I sure hope they were fine with it.
But I really hope I get to meet and talk with them soon~! I really wonder what I can do for them. I never thought thereād come a time where I would become a senpai. I really want to know more about them! You guys do as well right? I really hope to meet with them during after-recording sessions! Iām really looking forward to the next project! Iām really curious to see what kind of relationship Runga and WUG will have.
Thatās that for that day! It really was packed full interesting things!
In another mobile game, āTenka Hyakkenā, I took the role of Onimaru Kunitsuna. She seems cute and innocent, but sheās insanely strong! Sheās one of the Five Heavenly Swords. Even as a UR, sheās still really mind-bendingly strong! Ahh, I really hope to save my gems and be able to get her on my next pull. Her story is such a tearjerker too. So brave and gallant, while adorable at the same time! And when she removes her eyepatch?... Well, I hope youāll listen closely to her shouts when performing her deadly special technique!
Also in ANOTHER app game, āSeisen, Excalibur!ā I took on the role of Fiola. Sheās different from the other character I played, Perseus. Fiola is sort of an airhead but also a sweet and lovely girl! She must be protected! So yeah, sheās that type of girl heheh~ I encourage you all to try and get her! āŖāŖ
So I completed my last day with the WUG All Nighter broadcast special! My last time with the show was just with me talking by myself so it was sort of lonely! However, I did enjoy myself to the very last minute. When I first started doing the broadcast special by myself, I thought Iād have some trouble trying to come up with things to talk about. Now that so much time has passed, I hope to think that Iāve maybe grown a little with that experience.
On November 23rd, WUG will be performing at Animax Musix 2017 Yokohama! Yo yo yo YOKOHAMA~~~!!!! Iām so overjoyed (TT_TT) Yokohama Arena⦠Amazing⦠As a person from Kanagawa, this just feels like a dream. Iām so glad Iāll be able to set foot on the stage of Yokohama Arena! Even though weāve performed so many times in Tokyo, Iāve always felt some longing to do so in Kanagawa. Since thisāll be during the next chapter of WUGās journey, I hope lots of people will come to see us!
The first chapter of Wake Up Girls Eternal Senses manga has also been released through Comic Clear! I hope youāll read and enjoy it!
On August 5th, TV MX will be broadcasting the first episode of Kakegurui with special commentary by the cast! The special will include, Hayami Saori, Tokutake Tatsuya, and myself! Even though itās supposed to be an organized TV special, I still got to talk very eagerly. I hope you tune in to hear what I had to say!
This Friday, Jurassic World will be broadcasted! And I got to do a voice over role of a girl in the movie! Itāll be a super tense and exciting 2 hours! I hope you have an exciting time watching it!
Finally, next week Iāll be joining the internet broadcast program, FIVE STARS, in order to promote the release of the new Wake Up, Mayān single! The host of the program will be Date Arisa-san, who Iām looking forward to working with!
Alrighty, this weekend WUG will be having their tour through Sendai, so itāll be super busy! Iām looking forward to having a fun time with you all!

Aimi Blog 06/17/17
Hey guys, hereās my first translation work! Iām pretty new to the whole thing and learning more Japanese on the fly, so I hope you can be patient with my somewhat shoddy translations until I improve some more. Nonetheless, I hope I can convey the general gist of the original media to you all.
Without further ado, hereās a post from Terakawa Aimiās blog from June 17, 2017!
AreaAreA~ āŖ
Early Summer Seiyuu Special with Watanabe Yui and Terakawa Aimi including a talk-show corner and mini-live!
Thanks to everyone one who came to the event at AreAreA-2 in Tachikawa!
Yui-ton and I have a pretty deep relationship since weāve worked together in works such as Million Live and Mikakunin de Shinkoukei, but this is the first time we hosted an event together!
*Million Live roles: Julia (CV: Aimi) + Yokoyama Nao (CV: Watanabe Yui) *Mikakunin roles: Momouchi Mayura (CV: Aimi) + Yonomori Akane (CV: Watanabe Yui)
For the talk-show portion of our event, the theme was a showdown between the types of ideal shops that we would own!
My ideal shop was a complex that consisted of a Western-style clothing shop, cafe, and rock-climbing gym.Ā
The name of the complex: Ā AiM:ring Cafe
The interior design of the cafe would be great for Instagram, showing off the rock-climbing wall area with a large glass window. The glass, in turn, could also switch functions from being a window and turn into a monitor that shows videos!
The Western style clothing shop would contain original AiM brand clothing, which would also include rock-climbing training wear but we do carry a wide range of other things as well!
So all in all, itād be that type of store!!! I really let my imagination go wild~~~ I have a habit of daydreaming a lot, so these things happen often. It may be because Iām a person of few words and tend to be pretty private.
I got my hair styled.
I also put on my makeup pretty light that day.
Just look at that exhausted face.
My eyelids are usually pretty heavy and gives off a sort of sleepy impression, but since I was feeling so refreshed that day, I thought Iād go light on the eyeliner.
My live set included 2 songs:Ā Link (Oda Nobuna no Yabou OP) and Unmei no Ori (Dansai Bunri no Crime Edge OP). Thank you to all that came to my performance!
The clothes I wore were Western style, a slit skirt and open back shirt, and they felt so comfortable to wear!
The event went by in a flash, but it was so much fun!
After the event, Yui-ton, Pyon, and I played Monster Hunter together haha!
It really was such an awesome day for both my personal and work life! āŖ I hope you all have good weekend!
