Almost a year after the events in A Court of Silver Flames, Elain tries to figure out how she fits into the Night Court, wanting to find a purpose. She is plagued by visions but afraid to share them, not knowing if she can trust them or not. Her sisters are anxious to help her, one thinking Lucien might be the answer and the other wanting to push her to expand her horizons. When more of her gifts are uncovered, she jumps at the chance of serving the court in new ways.

Azriel has spent the last year under a cloud of frustration. Frustrated that he can’t get more information about what is happening in Prythian and the continent, and even more frustrated that his feelings for Elain will not go away. He has an order from his High Lord, but it gets harder and harder every day to follow the command. He continues to wonder how he can feel so drawn to a female who belongs to another.

Putting ships aside, that changed fan art in the calendar? Why choose it with erased Emerie? That’s, well a bit problematic.

Why have it look like Elain is kneeling in front of Lucien. If Elain and Lucien really are a thing that’s fine, but I don’t want her kneeling before him. Ick.

This just seems…. Well, it’s not a good look. Am I wrong?

So someone explain to me how Gwynriel is supposed to work in a romantasy novel. You have a male love interest already down bad for a prevalent female in the series. In turn she seems pretty in to him.

Are they supposed to have a fling and then mutually decided to break? Is he going to reject her? Is she just going to say well guess he didn’t want me on solstice so that’s it, I’ll run to someone else?

Is Elain, who has shown nothing but being a kind, even wise character who has grown, supposed to turn evil?

None of those sound appealing to me. At all. And how would that work into any actual plot that has been set up? An Az/Gwyn relationship makes no sense. Gwyn has a main character makes no sense in the narrative that has been written.

Even those without a literary degree can see it.

I’ve seen multiple posts saying Sarah should end the ship war, and while I would love to get more clarity about the upcoming books, the ship wars should mostly not exist.

I agree there are some reasons for Eluciens. In canon, they are mates as far as we know, but there is nothing to suggest Gwynriel.

Gwyn is a side character in one book. She was created to help Nesta, and if she has a part in the upcoming books it won’t be as a main character.

You can talk about her all you want and theorize what her book would be about, but your delusions don’t make it true.

There is a ship that already in the books has brushed hands, exchanged charged glances, exchanged gifts made just for each other, has longing, and has some major major scenes (hello truth teller and rescue from Hubern.)

Elriel is real. Elucien while shown multiple times it’s not a good fit, at least somewhat exisit.

Gwynriel is a crackship that comes from head cannon and delusion.

And yes I would love to spend time in the fandom only having fun and speculating on the next book and what we will learn about Elain and even Azriel, but instead all you can find is delusion. Just stop it.

So do Eluciens think Elain had some kind of Lucien shrine in her room with his jacket and gifts? I mean with what’s written in the books I imagine she has no clue where that jacket is and his gifts are probably stuffed somewhere or gone.

We do have someone saving gifts in a romantic way, but it ain’t about Elain longing for Lucien.

I see that many antis admit they don’t like ACOTAR and only enjoy the fandom and fan fics. Good news for them, I suppose, because they really aren’t going to like what happens next.

You know what, with the way the world is right now, this makes sense. God this fandom is trash right now. First off who seeded this bracket. Second no way silver flames is beating mist and fury. Be so for fucking real.

Day whatever of not understanding any of this. So Azriel has superficial feelings for Elain and that is why it’s okay for Gwynriels to think Az is using Elain and only lusting after her, but they still want him with their precious, super special Gwyn.

I mean sure I guess him risking his life to safe Elain is just superficial feelings.

Him giving her his special dagger he’s never let anyone else touch is just superficial.

Him wanting to be around her and just listen to her talk about plans for a garden until the wee hours of the morning is superficial?

Him keeping her gift in his bedside table to start stare at every night is superficial?

That is a male who is down bad for Elain. And I can’t wait for them to see it on the page.

There are several other moments from the books, actually words written by the author.

Just give it up.

I’ll say everyday until I die no matter what is written in the future. There is no romantic vibe between Azriel and Gwyn. It was not written that way. Infact with the power dynamic and how young Gwyn is written, it’s a little icky. (Perhaps you think I’m wrong, but I’m not)

I think they only reason Gwynriel is a thing is because some people out there hated Elain so much, they can’t stand to think she’d end up with Ariel. So they swam to the nearest lifeboat. They didn’t care about Gwyn initially, not really. She was just an option for Azriel that wasn’t Elain.

Then they ignored cannon and turned her into the a warrior bad ass self insert Mary sue in ther head cannons and fan fictions. They commission art and fed the lie that this was a ship that was going to happen to new and non readers. Most of what they say out here isn’t true and is not who Gwyn really is as a character. When it really comes down to for them is the main thing Gwyn has going for her is she is not Elain.

Anyway, I’m don’t playing nice or humoring those who ar just wrong. (Once again you can think I’m wrong, but I’m not)

Oh and almost all Elain/Azriel interactions are romantically coded. I’m sorry Elain isn’t enough of the typical bad-ass angry romantasy warrior fmc, but perhaps you should look deeper into why you don’t like her?

It’s not Bloomsbury or SJM’s fault you all hate Elain so much you latched on to a side character. It’s not their fault your reading comprehension was thrown out the window just so you can force Elain and Azriel apart. It’s all been right there for several books, and that bonus chapter you cling to? It only showed us that Az is down bad for Elain and that Elain wants him.

Nothing makes me feel more gaslight than the Acotar fandom. I seriously sometimes think Gwynriel must be some elaborate prank.

No Az and Gwyn are not confirmed mates. There is nothing to suggest they are. They shared no romantic moments, not one.

No Az was not drawn to Sangravah because of Gwyn. He went there for a foot of the cauldron.

Gwyn wasn’t even thought of by the author until she needed friends for Nesta. Gwyn is a side character in one book. Her main story has been told. If she and Azriel got together it would be nothing more than them just being together. There aren’t any real barriers.

Elriel have four books of build up. They have shared true romantic moments and a real rescue where Azriel went to save Elain. That was his only goal.

I know nothing will change. I know gwynriels will go on with there delusions, shouting that this crackship is without a doubt going to happen.

At this point I’m going to say it. If it did happen I can’t imagine it being believable or an interesting story. Also I can’t get past the part where she was described like a child. Where it is stated that Cassian sees her as a girl. A GIRL, not a woman. She is a young one to him. How would it not be icky for Az to see her in a romantic way? I just don’t get it.

1. There are people out there who say that Azriel is Gwyn’s mate with their whole chest like it’s been confirmed (baby, your fanfics don’t count)

2. I’ve seen several posts from El*ciens who think Az and Elain will have an intense and sexual relationship before they break up and go to their “true mates” ummm at this point who wants to read that?

3. They are focusing and celebrating that Elain finds Lucien hot. I think that’s stretching as I think everyone in Prynthian is probably hot. Also there is only one character where she actively pursued anything and it isn’t the one eyed red head

4. I can’t imagine thinking that a side character from one book would get a substantial POV and main romance. Most readers (not us crazy obsessed online people) can barely remember who Gwyn is.

You should follow YazTheBookish on Reddit and Instagram! They go in depth of how Elaine is irrelevant and Gwyn holds more impact for the plot of the next book with Azriel! Truth spoken!

Well, I finally finished my fic Shadows and Sorrows. It’s been over three years of on and off works it’s not perfect, definitely too sappy, and has more mistakes than I care to think about it, still finishing it feels good! Thanks to everyone who read even a little bit of it.
