💕 Help me get back on my feet after mom's suicide in April & an eviction 💕

Hi everyone. I talked to my housing worker & all applications are in for emergency housing. Completely homeles now. Tonight I'm wandering the streets and it's nearly 6 am EST. I don't have enough for a hotel, the wheelchair accessible room is $120/night I desperately need some solid sleep. I also require personal support workers to help me. That cost $22/hr because I'm having to pay privately at the moment.

I also got to thinking that I'm stable enough to do a work at home position. But need laptop and hotel to work from to get back on my feet. This is an URGENT need so I can start making an income. I chose a laptop that can support gaming so I can start doing Twitch to hopefully help me stay afloat. I also have some personal items I think are cool on there for when I get a place if you want to buy me something to cheer me up!

When you're talking to or about disabled people, stop comparing our situation to yours. For the love of God, stop saying "at least my situation isn't as bad as yours!"

Just because we're disabled, it doesn't mean we have a poor quality of life or, in some cases, we may not even mind being disabled. It's not fair to use our very real situation as your inspo porn, it alienates disabled people further from society. It makes it harder to trust that someone genuinely wants to be your friend or whether we're just a charity case.

Normalize caring about homeless people. And I don't just mean by solely giving us money when we're on the side of the road or online (although im grateful for every bit!), but I mean there are a plethora of ways you can support homeless people without money.

First and foremost, just give us a simple "hello, how are you?" Taking that time out of your day to ask how we're doing let's us know you see us as a person and not a statistic. I know it makes me feel good that someone actually cares.

Volunteer! You can absolutely volunteer your time with organizations that support homeless people in your area. If you need some ideas as to where to start, just message me or send an ask! This demonstrates that you're willing to make tangible change in sectors that are important to you. Thank you to all the volunteers that tirelessly work to change our lives for the better.

Last but definitely NOT least: help spread awareness about the factors that lead to homelessness. High rents/mortgages, food costs, mental health and addictions, escaping DV (domestic violence). Share posts, donate, and spread factual information on these topics. Knowledge is power.

At the end of the day, we impact someone every day, wherever we go. Make your impact bs positive. Smile at a homeless person, buy us a cheap beverage (if you can!), or stop to chat.

Stop thinking helping homeless people only means giving us cash when we request it. Until that narrative changes, high rates of homelessness will ALWAYS exist. There won't be enough shelter workers who actually care and understand homelessness as a multifaceted issue. There won't be enough soup kitchen staff. Enough people who give clothing donations as well as food. Enough people who roam the streets as workers and provide homeless people with resources. Yes, we need cash, but we also need resources and kind, caring people.
