A frigid chill in the air barely registers upon his skin, evidence of the cold weather visible only in the expel of misted breaths past rosy lips. The body presently huddled closely against his radiated enough warmth to keep him cosy even in blizzards, he tugs the thick, woollen blankets draped over them a little further up, stealing a doting glance at the man seated beside.
In defiance of their captivity, of being ripped away from their everyday lives with not the soupcon of a clue as to when they’d return, if ever, Viktor was at the peak of happiness. It was impossible not to be, when the best gift he could ever ask for was right here sharing his birthday with him.
As their carriage gently rocked, Reindeer preparing to ascend into the flickering night sky, he has eyes for only one star. He brings his student’s, no his rival’s, hands to his lips, skimming across a knuckle before settling to plant a kiss on the glaring, golden ring.
❝ You’ve truly spoilt me with all of this Yuuri. ❞
❝ I feel just terrible that I was able to do so little for yours. ❞
Of course it had been his plan to spoil Viktor on his birthday but nothing back in their own world could compare to what they were about to experience. It didn’t matter how cold the afternoon seemed to be, the warmth of the woollen blankets and the closeness of the two of them were the best distraction.
Sure, Yuuri’s attention had mostly been on his coach but as soon as the reindeers started to move, dark eyes averted their gaze over the side of the sleigh with a light and pleasant smile upon his lips. However, his distraction was short lived when his hand was taken as Viktor pressed his lips against the gold ring he wore upon his finger— the ring which matched Viktor’s own.
A small shake of his head was his response to Viktor’s statement. “It doesn’t matter,” He said softly, his cheeks aglow with a soft rosy hue but whether that was from the tender touch of the man beside him or the biting cold of the winter breeze, it was unclear. It didn’t matter… what mattered was that Viktor was enjoying himself and judging by the bright look in those lovely eyes of his, he seemed to be doing just that. Removing his hand from Viktor’s grip, he moved it upward to gently cup his cheek. “As long as you’re having fun.”
His hand lingered for a second before he lowered it again and added, “I saw a skating rink earlier… it might be a little crowded but maybe we could go there later.”
