after MANY long months after starting this project on the computer with autoCAD, its finally come to fruition, i now have in my hands an fully 3D printed guy-man  daft punk helmet, a total cost of about 50$ no including printer

by printing the helmet it has cut my budget in half, i purchased a thomas helmet already but i will print another to test before i release it to the public

so this is something i have been up to all this time

Arcade machine progress In this update I replaced the cracked plexiglass on the control deck, replaced some switches and wired up my mini-PAC board to the switches The mini-PAC is a programmable arcade-pc interface, you wire up the harness and then over USB you can set each button to a key on the keyboard so you can use emulators and such

The next part I built is the super cool fold out keyboard and trackball.

The control deck is on a hinge for easy maintaince, I used this hinge instead to have the deck fold down to reveal an industrial strength/waterproof keyboard and trackball to fold down, there is a pull knob on the right side, when pulled it disengages a latch letting it fold down, and to put it back up you simply give it a gentle slam and it latches securely

Inside I also included a USB hub to make the kbd/mouse/arcade board take all one USB port, pretty slick

Eventually when I get around to it I will seal and paint the wood.

Short arcade machine update, here I built a VESA compatible monitor mount to replace the hundred pound 27”CRT monitor, I used the wood bars from the CRT mount and used one block to attach the monitor to, and then a board to attach the block to the frame

Arcade machine update, I have connected three game systems to the machine, and reworked the power supply of the wii and the 360 so that they use the same power supply, the wii runs simply on 12v and the 360 needs 12v and a 5v standby line Both can be easily provided by a decent computer power supply As far as video connections go, I bought a "universal" adapter which connects 360, wii, and ps2 to the same composite out, the only issue is the 360 will ground it's outputs when it's off. Because of this the wii and the ps2 cannot be on while the Xbox is connected to the cable. The wii and ps2 play nice when they are off so each system can be used independently one at a time on the same cable As the Xbox goes I am connecting it to the monitor via HDMI Eventually the gaming rig/PC will be over VGA or HDMI and the ps3 will also be HDMI.

THE RED SCISSOR BLADE - Kill la Kill

steps

1 get 2d or 3d reference for the design OR PRINT OUT THE PROVIDED PDF AT THE BOTTOM OF THE PAGE AND SKIP TO STEP 4

(in this case i found an artist on DA who had and game to me a 3d model of the scissor they had made)

2 if you have a 3d model, set your viewpoint to parallel projection (no distortion) and take a screen cap 

3 get the Bigprint program http://woodgears.ca/bigprint/index.html and use the second image in this photoset, 

4 scale picture print, cut and tape together. then using a LIGHT application of spray glue (i reccomend 3m multipurpose spray adhesive 27) attach to MDF sheet

5 clamp the second mdf board underneath so you cut two of the same part at once 

6 using a jigsaw and proper safety equipment, cut it out

7 using a dremel or rasp, sand sandsandsandsand till smooth, and bevel the blade to taste, as well as other details 

8 SEAL MDF with TWO coats of white elmers glue with a LIGHT sanding after the first layer dries, (this prevents the paint from soaking into the MDF and causing it to swell and many other issues) 

9 prime (since its red, use white primer) and after a full 24 hours paint red 

10 have fun

So to keep everyone updated as to what I have been up to recently

I bought an arcade machine on Craigslist, it’s a bit beat up and it doesn’t work but over the next few weeks/months whatever, I will be restoring it

My plan for the cab is to put an LCD screen instead of the CRT, and add a gaming computer/server inside Along with that will be most of my video gaming consoles (Xbox360, ps2, wii), a kicking sound system with big subwoofers, The controls will have two “modes” mode 1 is the two joysticks and various buttons, Mode 2 is when the joysticks an buttons flip forward and a keyboard and trackball mouse pull forward from underneath

PART 2 of the hylian shield rebuild, STEP 1 remove every trace of rust using the scrunge side of a sponge (very tiring)(mount it to a drill if you feel daring) Step 2 clean surface with rubbing alcohol to remove oils and DO NOT TOUCH CLEANED SURFACE WITH BARE HANDS wear gloves Step 3 use metal compatible primer( grey or white) and 2x coats Step 4 while the primer dries Get large sheet of poster board and trim to the size of the shield, begin tracing the parts you pulled off earlier and lay out their positions on the paper Step 5 after about 24 hours, drying time apply a few coats of the blue base paint, make sure to follow instructions on the can Step 6 During the next 24 hours either using a projector or a large print out trace out the hylian family crest on the paper Step 7 Once the paint has dried layer on painters tape in the area under the crest, protip: make the edges of the tape a close as you can without overlapping, and then if you wish add an additional layer on top of those, protip 2: wide tape is better Step 8, tape the paper to the shield and VERY carefully with an NEW razor cut through the paper and into the tape to transfer the pattern Remember to double trace your lines to make sure you cut all the edges Step 9 remove the paper pattern and using a razor, carefully peel the cut section of the tape away, Step 10 Using a large trash bag or a dry cleaning bag, put it over the shield and cut out a center area large enough for the crest. then using painters tape, tape down the edges around the crest so the bag covers everything except the painters tape and the crest, like a window. (this prevents nasty overspray from ruining everything ) Step 11 apply coating of red paint to the cut pattern of the crest. Stay tuned for part 3, how to refinish the add on decorative pieces and attach them more securely to the shield

So at otakon I bought a really nice master sword for cheap and a really crappy half broken master shield for half price, my plan? To rebuild the shield so it is as beautiful as the sword is And I will show you all how I did it First step is to take reference pictures to look back on for placement of the parts Step 2 is using a chisel and small hammer to break the dry glue they used to affix the parts to the metal Then using the chisel and hammer again scrape off the excess adhesive on the metal Step 3 take some rough sand paper about 100 grit and go to town on that shitty paint job, you want to rough it up real nice Step 4 Get yourself some 3M "safest stripper" paint remover and drizzle it all over the shield, you want a nice thick coating, (the can says min 1/8th inch). Then go watch an episode or two of anime or something and come back in half an hour to an hour. Step 5 using a flexible putty knife, an old credit card or gift card or a scouring pad on a sponge you no longer care about, use it to remove the softened paint, under running water it should come off really easy, if it dosnt, leave it on for another half hour, If there is remaining paint left over, take some baking powder and sprinkle it on and using your hands rub the powder on the paint, the powder is an abrasive and the paint should be no match Step6 clean up the shield with some 180-220 grit sand paper stay tuned for updates on this tutorial

i really cant wait to print this 

i never see pokeflutes anymore and i will be releasing this on thingiverse after my first print so anyone pokemon fans can download and print this
