Scissor scarcity and hoarding have become a topic at work. It has gotten me thinking about how people behave when they don't trust each other; how they actively chose to hurt one another out of what they perceive to be self preservation and how that in turn hurts them. I want to live in a world where we are acting in the interest of the collective, not just ourselves. Fighting for that world to exist against people who are unwilling to step outside themselves and see the bigger picture is exhausting. It often makes me an enemy because people don't see that I'm fighting for them, for their future, for an environment where people are happy and supportive. Wanting a culture that is more focused on community and greater good shouldn't be this much of a fight. It breaks my heart that this is just a microcosm of the society we've built. We've bred distrust in each other through consumerism and self interest. I keep thinking if I can fix it on a small scale maybe I'll make a difference but I'm starting to wonder if it is even possible. People want so badly to live in their pain, to feel valid in the pain they cause others because of their own. Suffering begets suffering.
