Without a word, Lilo takes the creature’s hand, leading it towards an empty spot on the beach. “Wait here.” The girl disappeared for a few moments, then returned with her record player in tow. “You’re sad. I can tell.” she began, setting up the device. 

“Disgusting people are great! I should know. I get called that sometimes...” Placing the record in the machine, Lilo placed the needle down, while ‘ Love Me Tender’ by none other than Elvis Presley began to play. “I’m sure people thought Elvis was ugly at times too before he became a hunk. Maybe it’ll be the same thing with you. Kind of like the Ugly Duckling story.”

As difficult as it was, Lilo had since come to terms with the loss. She still thought about her parents often, but didn’t exactly have many memories to hang onto like her older sister since she was only three years old when the accident had occurred. “They died.” She answered, watching as the teen sat down in front of her. “But it’s okay. I’m sure that they’re up with Ki’i because they were good people.”
