Drawing Daisy every day days 1-5
Little painting practice
There’s this moment in inescapable that just really hits me every time because even if it’s not out of character it makes Fitzsimmons look So bad.
Jemma basically says that Daisy ‘full rage monster’ on a population and mentions she’s even going through some stuff and Fitz sarcastically remarks. ‘New issues’……
Ex-fucking-scuse me?
Jemma has been torturing people this season. She actively risked safety of her and her team. She has been doing a shit ton of morally grey things recently and she is judging the woman whose father in all but name just died. A woman who has spent months in space trying to rescue Jemma’s husband.
It’s even more unbelievable for Fitz because chronologically the last time they spoke was the season four ending where Daisy is the first person to assure him they understand how the framework manipulated him, refuses to let him take the blame, and doesn’t just forgive him but says he has nothing to apologize for.
It’s different when they’re at odds with Daisy. I can see them doing and saying uncharitable things then, because they canonically do often go for the throat when mad, but right now both of you ostensibly have a good relationship with her and she has done a lot for you so why would you be talking about her like this?
I think the show has huge blinders when it comes to FS, and it really hurt the overall "the team is a family, all ride or die for each other" thing they got going, to say nothing of the specific (former) Bus Kids dynamic.
Their flaws are treated as quirky traits, anything they do is framed exclusively through the romantic lens, nothing they cause really sticks to them other than with the countless separations (again, romantic lens) and the other characters almost never push back or call them out.
It goes as far back as at least season 3, comes to a resounding blow in 5b, and after that it's really more of the same, just with less dramatic flair.
I bet you the episode's writer sees this particular scene as them being cute and funny, and Simmons as a perfectly acceptable vehicle to inform us offhandedly that Daisy has been working through some anger issues, before the episode proceeds to catch up Fitz on everything he's missed in S5, with one, very specific, very glaring exception. It makes Simmons look a lot worse than if she has said nothing at all, but I bet it didn't register.
In fact, I remember the writer in question seemed surprised when fans on Twitter asked him why Fitz wasn't confronted with images of 5x14 as well, amidst all the other flashbacks. The answer was, paraphrasing, that it was another Fitz, so it didn't matter, which is a common enough attitude in fandom as well and, I think, very telling. It may not matter to Fitz - debatable - but it sure matters to Daisy and Simmons who have lived through it, or at least it should.
Of course, if all you see or care about is The Greatest Romance of All Time (🙄), it really doesn't matter, I suppose. FS had already resolved that particular crisis for themselves, after all: he had no choice, it was a grey area. Done in one, same episode it had happened in. Very efficient.
Blinders, I tell you, big enough for at least a Belgian Draught.
That's for Doyle (funnily enough, Inescapable's writer is also called Doyle).
My Watsonian take is that they're assholes. Fitz more so than Simmons, but by the end is a near thing, and she doesn't even have the excuse of having lived a second life as Dr. Mengele Jr.
It’s my birthday so here’s some self indulgent season 1 skimmons 😵💫
Do you ever think that young Daisy, when she bounced around from house to house, looked in the mirror and wondered why she didn't look the same as every other girl?
Why her eyes were shaped differently, why she couldn't be put into a category like everyone else?
Why her face was rounder, why she didn't have the cute snub nose that all the white girls in her neighborhood had?
Why she would be teased for her features by people she barely knew, blamed for things that weren't her fault?
Do you think she ever just stared and wished she could be just like everyone else?
