Tbh I feel like part of the appeal of “diaspora identitarianism” wrt cultural politics is that it lets people promote certain reactionary cultural nationalistic discourses while ‘washing their hands’ of the historic contexts these ideas may have emerged in or their consequences when politically applied. So you can promote certain conservative cultural ideas wrt Hindu or Japanese identity while avoiding criticisms levied against Hindutva or Japanese right-wing because you can conveniently disown the aspects state policies that may emerge from those ideologies
