City Lights Lay Out Before Us → Ivan and Kaylee

Although Ivan vowed that he wouldn’t let his excitement show, he found that it was getting more difficult to do so as the minutes passed. Ever since the blonde talked him into the idea and helped him plan the whole thing out, he fell asleep imagining the trip. Now that the day finally arrived, it felt surreal to him.

After what felt like hours to the boy, Kaylee sat down beside him. “Hey now, don’t hurt Anastasia. Be gentle with her,” he said in response to her throwing her suitcase into the trunk. “She has feelings you know.” At her explanation, Ivan couldn’t help but chuckle and shake his head. “Yeah Queen of the ratchets,” he joked and smirked at her prior to backing out of her driveway. Knowing that Kaylee didn’t mean a single word she had said, Ivan rolled his eyes. “Yeah and after that we can surf down the Himalayas and jump into a volcano,” the boy replied in an equally sarcastic tone. “But honestly, we’re dropping off Anastasia with a friend and taking a.. surprise vehicle to in and out and then just wherever this road takes us. Unless you had other plans because if you do, speak now or forever hold your peace.”

Kaylee laughed harder than she should have as Ivan was complaining about her actions toward Anastasia. It wasn't like she had slammed that trunk, but apparently it was hard enough to spark Ivan's emotional attachment to the car. "Sorry, sorry, didn't know I hurt 10.000 pounds of steel but closing the trunk." The girl fastened her seatbelt and lowered her extreme laugh into a sarcastic chuckle. She lowered her sunglasses and stared at him for a good 30 seconds and then rolled her eyes. Kaylee couldn't help but wonder at the boy's next statement; wondering if the surprise vehicle was a limo, being that was the first thing that came to her mind. "Oh-kaayy? Should I be worried about what this vehicle is or excited?" Straightening her position in the seat, still very curious. "Well I guess I don't really have any other choice if I want some freedom. So on we go!"

City Lights Lay Out Before Us → Ivan and Kaylee

As Ivan laid on his bed, he stared up at his ceiling and allowed his mind to wander for the first time that day. He allowed himself to relive the day and his face would often contort to one of disgust. His teachers for the semester were awful as well as most of his partners. A sigh escaped his lips when he realized that it was only April and he had about two more months of school left to go. The closer he got to senior year, he realized, the more each year seemed to drag on. Freshman year had been exactly what he had expected it to be; it had been long and awkward. Sophomore year wasn’t much different. He had been in mixed classes where kids in just about every grade were in that class. In elementary school as well as in middle school, he had always been the one who got the best grades. However he’d often see freshmen getting better grades than he in those classes. The grades didn’t piss him off, but the lack of commitment to the sports teams did. All the captains he worked with were awful and most of the time, they didn’t seem to care what happened. If it hadn’t been for Kaylee and a few of his other friends, and his mother’s stubbornness, he would’ve left after the horrendous freshman year.

At he thought of her, his eyes moved down the wall and landed on the one picture of them that she insisted he hung on his walls. At the time his walls were, for the most part, bare with the exception of one or two baby pictures here and there. The most recent photo of him, was captured just over six months ago at the city fair. They were standing in front of the Ferris Wheel which had been lit up with colorful lights since the sun had set just minutes before. In his hands was a pink, giant fluffy mass of cotton candy on a cone which he had shoved in her face moments after the flash went off from the camera. Of course, as he expected, she didn’t let him get away with it and retaliated by throwing popcorn right at him. Typically he dreaded taking his sister to the fair because it was always embarrassing to be seen with a four year old at a carnival instead of hanging out with the rest of his team. However that year was different because he finally had a chance to relax at the fair. He didn’t have to worry about losing his sister or having to impress his teammates.

As if he suddenly remembered that there was such thing as reality, he focused on what he had been doing before his mind went else where. He forced himself up into a sitting position before swinging his legs to the side of his bed and standing up to cross his room to grab his luggage from his closet. Without much thought, he began to throw random articles of clothing into the empty suitcase. Before he knew it, his luggage was full and he was out the door with his phone, wallet and car keys in hand. On his way to the garage, he took the stairs two at a time and soon enough he was walking into the kitchen. He wasn’t worried about leaving a note for his parents since they were on a cruise ship somewhere in the Caribbean. On his way out, he picked up the box of glazed donuts in case either of them started getting hungry before they crossed the state border.

The drive to Kaylee’s house was short and didn’t require a lot of thought. He had been over a countless number of times. In fact whenever they did decide to hang out, it was usually at her house since his parents were slightly embarrassing and overbearing. Whenever someone came over they always had questions to ask them. Most of the questions were like the ones found on many of the surveys found on Tumble and other things were things related to the news as well as their opinion on it. So he had spent many summer nights camping out in her back yard, singing along to the radio as they made cookies and making pointless vines. When his Mustang was inches from the white garage door, he turned down Rack City and honked twice to let her know that he was there. The sun warmed his skin and for a moment, Ivan was worried about getting burned on the way to their unknown destination. However he dismissed the thought almost as quickly as it formed in his mind. Not long after, he saw a familiar blonde emerge from the other side of the house. With a fake sigh and a roll of his eyes, he said, “Took you long enough.” Then he allowed a grin to spread across his face. As he pulled out of the driveway, he quickly glanced at her and asked, “So where do you want to go?”

Kaylee was thrilled when she got the call from Ivan, she had been waiting impatiently for this day since they had planned the summer after freshman year. The excited girl rushed around her house to get her essentials and stuffed them in her pre-packed suitcase. She also rummaged around for the note she had written to her parents long ago for when this day finally came. Kaylee set the note on the counter in the kitchen, took a couple of healthier snacks than the junk food she knew Ivan would have, and plopped a spot on her living room couch.

A few minutes later Kaylee heard two loud honks and Rack City coming from outside. She wanted to yell at the maniac, but then realized that maniac was her ticket out of this place. She quickly got up and grabbed her suitcase and purse and ran out the door like a wild woman. She stopped in awe of her favorite Mustang and then threw her large bag into the trunk. She hopped into the passenger seat to hear Ivan's "warm" greeting as she sat down. "Well sorry the queen needs her beauty sleep", she laughed closing the door, taking her first breath of freedom. Kaylee thought of multiple answers to her friend's question, and chose the one that would freak him out the most, "Let's see we can start off in Rome to do the whole Lizzie McGuire thing, then head to Paris to pick up some hot blondes and gelato, and finally end in Barcelona to do the Cheetah Girls experience," and with a big breath ended, "how does that sound?"

While waiting for a response to her casually sarcastic, but not really, suggestion, Kaylee grabbed her favorite pair of aviators from the glove compartment and turned to Ivan. "Well...?", using hand motions to exaggerate her impatiences.
