Lily loved how easily it was to talk to Kayden and how happy his smile made her. Nodding her head, the brunette tucked a piece of hair behind her ear as she smiled at his excited tone. “Of course I can give you a few more hours of my time.” She responded with ease. “What did you have in mind or is it a surprise?”

Kayden breathed a sigh of relief when she agreed to spending more time with him during the evening. He wanted nothing more than telling her but at the same time he wanted to keep it a surprise. At the same time he also hoped that she hadn’t yet experienced this. “It’s more of a surprise, well at least I hope it is, anyway. First though, I’ll take you for some dessert.”

“Not until 2pm.” Lily replied. “I usually like at least 9 hours worth of sleep before a photoshoot but this one starts so late and is only supposed to go for a few hours, so I’m not that stressed about it.” She admitted. “What about you? No work tomorrow?”

At her response, Kayden’s eyebrow raised, he loved what he was hearing from her. He wanted to make this night something special now. He shook his head at her question, “Not tomorrow, they kind enough to give me two days in a row off. So you’re down for hanging out a little later with me? I’d love to show you something.” He gave her an excited smile.

Blushing slightly at his comment, Lily couldn’t help but smile to herself as she thought of the comment Santana would have definitely made at Kayden’s comment. “I always have room for dessert. Who doesn’t like something sweet?” The Latina replied before continuing to eat her meal. In between the sound of their cutlery hitting their plates, Lily found herself really enjoying the conversation she and her neighbor were having. Pushing her empty plate away from her, she finished her meal with the rest of the wine in her glass. 

Kayden offered her an amused smile, “Good, I hope’d you’d say that. I’m the first to admit I like to have something little sweet.” The blonde continued to finish off his own meal, which didn’t take him long at all. He glanced up at the woman in front of him, still sitting there ever so beautifully, “What time is your shoot tomorrow?” Curious as to know how long he could keep her up for. He really didn’t want the time in her company to end.

Lily nodded her head at Kayden’s offer. “I’d like that.” She replied honestly. Spending time alone with her handsome neighbor sure beat watching trashy TVs hows alone in her PJs. Just as she was about to speak, the waitress returned with their orders. Thanking the girl, Lily licked her lips at the sight of the delicious looking food on her plate. “This looks so good.” Lily commented before digging in. “It is so good.” She added after swallowing the mouthful of food. “How did you find this place, again?”

Kayden offered her a warm smile, “I’m glad to hear that.” He was just as honest, he wanted nothing more than to spend time with her, let alone in his place. The boy smiled as he watched the food be placed on the table in front of them, “I told you, your life will be forever changed. Thank me later,” he winked at her with a chuckle. “I kind of just stumbled across it when I moved here. One of those late night snack. I’m so glad I did find it.” He too, dug into his dinner, closing his eyes with such enjoyment, “I hope you’re gonna make room for dessert.”

Lily’s smile brighten at Kayden’s assurance that they would be back here together. She liked that he wanted to see again, it made her feel better about wanting to be around him. “It’s for Complex. I’m really excited about it actually. It’s a really popular magazine and my agent has been trying to get me in with them for ages.” She explained, before offering Kayden a smile. “I’ll make sure to buy an extra copy of the magazine and I’ll totally sign it for you.” She teased before continuing back on the conversation of their noisy neighbours. “No, it’s fine. I just wanted to make sure I wasn’t going crazy and that other people could hear them too. I’ll deal with it.”

Kayden listened to her as she mentioned what magazine she would be apart of, he’d heard of it but had no idea what kind of magazine it was. Just seeing her so engrossed about her next job brought a smile to his face. He could tell it was something that she was excited and worked for. “That’s huge, wow, congratulations! What an opportunity for you.” He genuinely was excited for her, “That’d be awesome, actually. I feel quite privileged.” Kayden wasn’t going to lie, he couldn’t wait to see her work. “Okay, just thought I would offer if it was annoying you. Yeah, you’re definite;y not alone. If they ever keep you up, feel free to come over and hang out.”

Lily smiled softly at Kayden’s toast as she followed his actions. With her glass of wine now in her hand, she raised it towards his drink and they cheers. Taking a sip of her wine, she placed the glass on the table before looking up at the waitress who was ready to take their order. “I’ll just have a salsa salad with extra bacon bits.” The brunette requested, waiting a moment for Kayden to place his order before she thanked the waitress before the young woman walked away.

“I have a photoshoot tomorrow afternoon so that’s why I’m being a cliche with the order.” Lily explained with a laugh. “If I didn’t have that, I would have order something with a lot more calories which in turn, would be a lot more satisfying.” Taking her glass once more, she took another mouthful before placing it back down on the table. “How long have you lived in the apartment building? Is upstairs always so noisy? I swear to God they throw a party every single night.”

Kayden watched the brunette in front of him converse with the waitress. She was so effortlessly beautiful. The way she she spoke, the way her hair fell around her shoulders. His eyebrow immediately raised in question. He’d definitely have to bring her back so she could have the whole experience. As the waitress turned her attention to him, Kayden looked up with a grin, I’ll have the mixed plate, thanks.” His favourite, you get a little of everything and it’s quite filling. He really didn’t need or expect an explanation from her but he nodded in understanding, “You really don’t have to explain yourself. That’s really cool though. What’s the photoshoot for? It’s alright, I’ll just bring you back and make sure you get the full experience.” He gave her a smile and took a drink of his own, “A couple of years now. Not all the time, but they can get quite distracting. I’m usually at work whenever they’re throwing a party. I can speak to them if you’d like? I don’t mind.” He offered wanting to help her settle in.

Lily was captivated as she watched Kayden passionately talk about his profession. She liked that he was so open about himself, it was refreshing from the bad boy type she seemed to attract more often than not. Usually if they were a “badass” it usually meant they were unemployed with major anger issued. Smiling softly at the mention of Kayden helping out his parents, Lily found herself wondering if they would approve of her. They sounded like a close family and she loved that he was loyal towards them. “Your life is kind of impressive.” Lily laughed, not really knowing how she should even begin to explain the cluster fuck that had been her life.

“Well I don’t save people on a daily basis so I’m automatically not as impressive as you.” She replied before offering the blonde a nervous chuckle. “I’m from Lima, Ohio which in case you were unaware, is the most boring town to ever grace this world. My family and I are complicated. I have an older twin sister, identical actually, and a younger brother. Santana and I kind of raised Emilio because our dad bailed when San and I were 10 and our mom was working all the time. She’s an ER nurse.” Lily explained. “Santana and her wife, Brittany, actually live here in New York too. I was crashing with them before I got my own apartment which is where I met you so it’s all kind of recent.” She added before smiling softly. “I didn’t attend college though I was accepted into NYU. College just never really suited me, I always knew I wanted to model and eventually become an actress. I honestly never expected the whole modelling thing to pick up as quickly as it did but I’m also really thankful. I’m not famous or anything, not even close, but I pay my bills and I can afford to buy a pair of brand new shoes once a month so I’m not doing too badly.” 

Kayden couldn’t help but smile as he shook his head, “It’s really not but it’s nice to know you think so. I’m just a simple dude trying to find my way and be the best me I can.” It was true, he wanted to be the best person he could for the world and have his parents be proud of him. The boys mind drifted to his family he had left behind. He also thought about one of the big things that he hadn’t told the Latina as of yet. The fact that he was currently going through an army recruitment process, figuring it was too early for him to mention anything.

He listened carefully as she told him about her life, making sure he took in everything she was saying. He was one who tends to take in all the small things that people say, the things that most people tend to overlook. “Hey, everyone has their own impressive story, you don’t have to compare to me.” He chuckled, it seemed to be a standard comment about small towns, “You’ll have to prove that to me sometime, I bet I could come up with a few things to make it fun.” As a small town boy himself, he knew how to make fun. He listened intently about her family, one of the most important things. He hated the idea of the two girls having to raise their younger brother, it was such a responsibility for them to do at such a young age. He already had taken a dislike to the girl’s father, he couldn’t imagine walking out on his family, let alone his children. 

Kayden was sure he would bump into her sister at some stage and he looked forward to it, to see another piece of Lily’s life. “You followed your heart and not your head, I respect that. And look how it’s paying off for you now.” He gave her a warm smile, “You’re gonna be great, I know it. As long as you love what you do, you’re gonna be successful because if you’ve got the passion and the drive, no matter how many times you get pulled down, you’ll come back stronger.” Kayden couldn’t help but laugh at her comment about shoes, “And of course, that’s the most important part.” At this point the waitress had returned with their drinks and Kayden picked his up and raised it, “To the success of the future and the beautiful woman sitting across from me.”

Lily wasn’t expecting Kayden to pay for their meal but she should have known. He gave off the perfect gentleman vibe and growing up where he had, she knew manners would have been taught from a very young age. Unlike most people though, the blonde seemed to have remembered them. Hesitating for a moment, the Latina finally nodded her head and smiled up at the waitress who had accompanied them by their table. “Okay, I’ll just have a glass of white wine. Anything that’s on the sweeter side.” Lily replied, waiting as Kayden placed his order before thanking the waitress as the young woman walked off towards the bar. “So… Tell me about yourself?” Lily asked softly. “When I ran into you the other day, you mentioned you were a paramedic? What’s that like?”

Kayden nodded with a smile before he ordered Lily a glass of wine and added his own drink with the order. He thanked the waiter as she began to walk away, glad that the night had started off on the right foot. The blonde couldn’t help but find his gaze on her big brown orbs. So warm and inviting. Kayden nodded, he loved talking about what he did as it was something that he was so passionate about. “It’s crazy. It’s unpredictable and probably everything you think it would be. It’s a challenge at times and yet it’s one of the most rewarding things I have ever done in my life. The fact that every day, I can go out and help someone who can’t help themselves, I love it. I help save them, I help bring new lives into the world. Sometimes I suppose there are things out of our control that we have to live with but we grow, learn and move on.” He smiled to himself, “Helping people is what I was put on this earth to do and I make sure I do the best I can day in and day out.” He knew he had started rambling so he began to finish up, “I’m from a small town outside Tennessee, my parents try to manage the family farm. We didn’t have a lot of money but we got by, they still do. It’s rough for them, every week I send some money to help my parents out, even if they use that money to take each other out for dinner or bills, I feel I owe it to them.” he shrugged, thinking back to all the things he and his family missed out on but whenever they could his parents would make sure that he still got something that he wanted every now and again. “I played high school football and went to school at University of Tennessee. What about you? I wanna know your story?”

The brunette found herself blushing slightly at Kayden’s declaration of the her beauty. Tucking a piece of hair behind her ear, Lily smiled softly at the man in front of her as she took in his appearance. “You look really handsome.” She added sincerely before following his motion and began walking into the restaurant. “I hope so. I trust you.” Lily replied as they made their ways to an available table.

Looking around, Lily took in the small but classy layout and she found herself relaxing. She wasn’t the type of girl who liked extremely high end places but it was the type of establishment she was supposed to be mixing with as her career continued to take off. Taking her seat, she smiled as the neighbours locked eyes with one another from across the table. “Thank you for taking me here. This place looks rather incredible.”

Kayden couldn’t help but give her a wide grinned smile at her compliment, “Thank you.” He was chuffed that she seemed to be impressed with him, he wanted to make a good impression. The blonde nodded, “I’m glad, you’ve put your trust in the right hands.” Which on many levels was true, anyone that was in Kayden’s life he would drop everything to help them out or protect them in any way he could. Nothing meant more to him than his family and close friends. 

The relaxed vibe was something he loved about the place. He knew most of the staff just from grabbing dinner every now and again. Kayden shook his head, “You don’t need to thank me, it’s my pleasure. It looks good but the food tastes even better.” He looked around to see the closest waiter before he handed the woman a drink list, “Would you like a drink? And get whatever you want, it’s all on me. No ifs or buts.”

Lily was nervous and that wasn’t an emotion she was accustomed to feeling. She was usually the best looking person in a room, reasonably successful at her job and had been on actual red carpets for events her agency wanted her to attend to increase the amount of buzz that surrounded her on a daily basis. The brunette was good at being under pressure and taking risks; if she wasn’t, she’d still be living in Lima completely miserable. But here she was. Standing in front of the mirror in her bedroom looking at the tenth outfit of the night attempting to find the right one that would impress Kayden. 

He was a real man who had a real job. He saved lived on a daily basis. How could she compete with that? Plus, he was extremely good looking and he seemed so sweet and just as nervous as she had been that night they discovered Lily was his new neighbour. Being around Kayden, even in that brief exchange, had given the Latina butterflies. Her sister was always telling Lily to surround herself with good people who weren’t just her friend because she was a model and if Lily was honest with herself, she wasn’t sure that person really existed. Everyone always wanted something from her but Kayden really had been that exception. He just wanted a conversation and he had made her feel like a normal person for the first time in months. 

Letting out a sigh as she attempted to focus, the brunette glanced at the clock and realized she had to be at the restaurant in one hour. Sucking in a deep breath, she calmed her nerves long enough for her to select an outfit, do her hair and apply her makeup. With only ten minutes to spare, she took in the red dress that clung to her body in all the best ways and admired the curls that fell so naturally. Finishing up the smokey eye that complimented a rather natural makeup look, the brunette grabbed her clutch and slipped on a pair of black heels and within seconds; she was rushing out the door.

Thanking the high heavens the restaurant was only a five minute walk away, she rushed down the street as fast as she could and prayed Kayden didn’t think negatively of her. Usually, Lily was always a few minutes early but due to her nerves, time really had gotten the best of her. Noticing Kayden waiting outside for her, she ran her fingers through her hair before walking towards her neighbour. “I am so sorry if I’m late. Time kind of slip away from me.”

Ever since Lily had mentioned about hanging out together, Kayden was excited. He was surprised when it came so soon. Since they had bumped into each other in the hallway outside their apartments, Kayden hadn’t been able to get the woman off his mind. The fact that she was a model didn’t matter to Kayden at all, in fact it was one of the least exciting things about her. He wanted to know more about her, Lily the person, not Lily the model. Kayden wasn’t usually one to go out, so when it came to choosing something to wear, he was clueless. Usually he was swept up in working or training, hardly spent time with friends, which he knew he needed to do again.

Kayden grabbed a long pair of chino pants and a buttoned down shirt, the best that he had. He wanted to look decent for her. He wanted to impress her. She was a beautiful woman, anyone could see that. Throwing on his black watch to tie together the outfit, he grabbed his things and began to make his way down to the restaurant which was only a short walk away. As he made his way closer he began to feel more and more nervous. It had been quite a while since even the thought of someone made him nervous. Not only that he hadn’t seen anyone in quite a while so he figured he may even be a little rusty. 

Upon arriving at the restaurant, Kayden looked around for any sign of the woman. He looked down at his watch and noticed he was a couple of minutes earlier. A chance for himself to get his emotions under control. Kayden ran his fingers through his hair to make sure it was exactly how he wanted it. He tried to focus on what he would choose to eat to take his mind off the woman and the nerves that come with the thoughts of her. 

Kayden turned as soon as he heard her voice. A smile immediately making its way to his face. When his eyes finally rested on her he was blown away. If his nerves were bad before, they were off the charts now. Lily had taken his breath away. A grin still plastered over his face as he shook his head, “No, no, you’re definitely not late, I was early.” He took a breath as he looked at her again, words falling before he could help it, “You look beautiful, Lily. It’s good to see you again.” He motioned for them to go inside the restaurant, “You’re gonna love this food, trust me.”

Lily smiled softly when Kayden seemed to take her offer and improve it by adding another destination they needed to experience together. “Yeah?” She asked before nodding her head. “I’d like that.” She added before fishing her phone out of her handbag. Unlocking the device, she handed it to her neighbour as the strangers locked eyes. “Put your number in and I’ll call you sometime?” Lily suggested.

Kayden nodded at her question with a smile. He was so glad now that he had decided to go to the gym after work, if he hadn’t he definitely would have missed her. “Yeah, me too.” He watched as she fished her phone out of her bag. As their eyes met he couldn’t help but be drawn in by Lily’s warm brown eyes. He finally broke his gaze and took the phone, typing in his number before he handed it back to her. “There you go. Yeah, definitely do. It’ll be nice to get out.” He really didn’t want her to leave or their conversation to be over but he was standing in his sweaty gym clothes coming off a twelve hour shift. “I better let you go, I don’t want you to be late for whatever it is you’re heading out for.”

“That’s really impressive. I just take photos of myself… Mostly in lingerie for a living.” She replied with a soft laugh. Humming at his mention of Mexican food, Lily nodded her head. “That sounds really good… Maybe you could take me there one time? I mean, when you’re not being a hermit that is.” Lily teased.

Kayden was chuffed, “Thanks, I worked hard for what I’ve got, you know?” He couldn’t help but imagine what she would look like in lingerie. He was a guy. He couldn’t just ignore that part of his brain. Kayden contemplated googling her name once he got inside so he could sneak a peak but there was a part of him that wanted her to show him for herself. The boy was caught off guard by her question and he immediately smiled and nodded once what she said had processed, “I’d like that actually and for you, being a hermit is definitely something that would come second.” He definitely was going to keep up that offer. Talking with Lily, for someone he had just met seemed so easy, “Also, if that’s the case, I can’t not take you for dessert after at this gelato shop, your life will forever be changed.”

“What do you do for a living?” Lily asked before humming in an understanding. “Tell me about it. I’m from Lima, Ohio and I didn’t sleep properly for like a month because I couldn’t get used to the traffic.” She laughed. Admiring his smile, Lily took a step closer as she tried to keep their conversation going. She wasn’t quite ready to say goodbye. “So, do you know of any good restaurants around here?”

At the question, Kayden immediately perked up, he loved his job and he was so proud to tell people what he did for a living, “I’m a paramedic and lately I’ve just been getting a lot of night work so I’m starting to feel like a hermit,” he joked with her. “But I love helping people, I love what I do.” He nodded agreeing with her comment about the traffic. He missed the quiet, the peace of what his hometown offered. Kayden nodded at her, “I do, there’s a really nice mexican place down the street, I don’t know what kind of food is your favourite but there’s a lot to choose from,” he took a breath before he continued, “If you ever need anything, just let me know, I’m always happy to help out, just so you know.”
