Shout-out to @ms-demeanor for putting these on my dash again, I’d like to add this exceptional interview question “answer guide” that explains traps and “the best” way to answer over 64 common questions. I don’t know who to attribute it to, but here it is: PDF from tri valley one-stop career center.
This is a great resource! I’m an interviewer (UK) and I would like to add my top tips.
1. Never be afraid to ask for a moment to collect your thoughts before answering a question. I want your true answer, I don’t want you to blurt out something on the spur of the moment and then worry about it later.
2. Try to ask a memorable question. When I got hired for my current position, one of the questions I asked was about the mental health support and practices at the company. Once I had been hired, they told me that they’d never had that question before and it made me stick in their mind - plus mental health support is something that’s very important to me.
3. Brag! Please brag about your accomplishments! I want to know about the things you’ve done and I have no way of knowing them unless you tell me. I need to know what you can bring to my team. Interviews are NOT the time to be modest or reticent. If you’ve done something relevant/ important/interesting, say it! This will also make you more memorable, even if it’s not directly relevant to the job. Tell me about your hobbies and show me your dedication to learning. The last question I always ask my interviewees is “is there anything you want to brag about that we’ve not already discussed?” (or some variation on the wording) because I know people will be reticent.
as we know the higher up you are the closer you are to god. this means when clouds form in the sky they actually develop sentience and immediately start cannibalising each other to get more divine power. when a cloud is strong enough it does gain psychoelectric abilities but it also gets too heavy and begins to die, blaming the ground for ripping it from the heavens and attacking with its thunder on the way down. nevertheless its pieces descend like whale fall spreading the last of its divine light into the earth
anyway the build up of that divine light is why there's trees and animals and stuff down here
I want to know something regarding the pronunciation of the word "iron", and I'm only asking native speakers and those who've been living in an English speaking country since forever (as a child), but it's not quite their native language. The latter is my definition for "second language". And only that. If you went to school in an English speaking country for a couple of years (for example studying abroad), that doesn't count as a second language in this case, please press the last button then.
People tend to say that pronouncing the "r" in iron is incorrect, that a native speaker wouldn't pronounce it that way. So... Do you pronounce the "r" in iron? Do you add an "r" somewhere?
Which description comes close to your pronunciation of "iron"?
i-on (native speaker)
i-orn (native speaker)
i-ron (native speaker)
it changes all the time (native speaker)
i-on (second language)
i-orn (second language)
i-ron (second language)
Sina I STILL pronounce it VERY differently, it doesn't even come close to that!
"I yearn" is closest, though that approximation carries the distinct implication of "iron" being a two-syllable word, which I know it's supposed to be? but when I say it, not so much
So with the understanding that I have an accent that does some really weird things with vowels (it’s a Great Lakes/Pittsburgh blend), it’s a single syllable that definitely does have an R in it. It’s almost like “urn,” but with an “I” at the beginning. This is definitely not how most of America pronounces it (I’ve been told I say “banana” and “orange juice” really weird, too), but it’s how people where I grew up say it.
I saw a comment on your blog that says 'the way you eat does not cause diabetes'...are you able to expand on that or provide a source I could read? I've been told by doctors that my pre-diabetes was due to weight gain because I get more hungry on my anti psychotics and I'd like to fact check what they've told me! Thank you so much!
There are a lot more factors at play in diabetes — more complicated than “I had a cupcake at lunch.”
Pre-diabetes was rejected as a diagnosis by the World Health Organization (although it is used by the US and UK) - the correct term for the condition is impaired glucose tolerance. Approximately 2% of people with "pre-diabetes" go on to develop diabetes per year. You heard that right - TWO PERCENT. Most diabetics actually skip the pre-diabetic phase.
There are currently no treatments for pre-diabetes besides intentional weight loss. (Hmm, that's convenient, right?) There has yet to be evidence that losing weight prevents progression from pre-diabetes to T2DM beyond a year. Interestingly, drug companies are trying to persuade the medical world to start treating patients earlier and earlier. They are using the term “pre-diabetes” to sell their drugs (including Wegovy, a weight-loss drug). Surgeons are using it to sell weight loss surgery. Everyone’s a winner, right? Not patients. Especially fat patients.

Prediabetes: The epidemic that never was, and shouldn’t be
The war on ‘prediabetes' could be a boon for pharma—but is it good medicine?
Also - I love what Dr. Asher Larmie @fatdoctorUK has to say about T2DM and insulin resistance, so here's one of their threads I pulled from Twitter:
1️⃣ You can't prevent insulin resistance. It's coded in your DNA. It may be impacted by your environment. Studies have shown it has nothing to do with your BMI.
2️⃣ The term "pre-diabetes" is a PR stunt. The correct term is impaired glucose tolerance (or impaired fasting glucose) which is sometimes referred to as intermittent hyperglycemia. It does not predict T2DM. It is best ignored and tested for every 3-5yrs.
3️⃣ there is no evidence that losing weight prevents diabetes. That's because you can't reverse insulin resistance. You can possibly postpone it by 2yrs? Furthermore there is evidence that those who are fat at the time of diagnosis fair much better than those who are thin.
4️⃣ Weight loss does not reverse diabetes in the VAST majority of people. Those that do reverse it are usually thinner with recent onset T2DM and a low A1c. Only a tiny minority can sustain that over 2yrs. Weight loss does not improve A1c levels beyond 2 yrs either.
5️⃣ Weight loss in T2DM does not improve macrovascular or microvascular health outcomes beyond 2 years. In fact, weight loss in diabetics is associated with increased mortality and morbidity (although it is not clear why). Weight cycling is known to impacts A1c levels.
6️⃣ Weight GAIN does NOT increase the risk of cardiovascular OR all causes mortality in diabetics. In fact, one might even go so far as to say that it's better to be fat and diabetic than to be thin and diabetic.
Dr. Larmie cites 18 peer reviewed journal articles (most from the last decade) that are included in their webinar on the subject, linked below.
As Google has worked to overtake the internet, its search algorithm has not just gotten worse. It has been designed to prioritize advertisers and popular pages often times excluding pages and content that better matches your search terms
As a writer in need of information for my stories, I find this unacceptable. As a proponent of availability of information so the populace can actually educate itself, it is unforgivable.
Below is a concise list of useful research sites compiled by Edward Clark over on Facebook. I was familiar with some, but not all of these.
⁂
Google is so powerful that it “hides” other search systems from us. We just don’t know the existence of most of them. Meanwhile, there are still a huge number of excellent searchers in the world who specialize in books, science, other smart information. Keep a list of sites you never heard of.
www.refseek.com - Academic Resource Search. More than a billion sources: encyclopedia, monographies, magazines.
www.worldcat.org - a search for the contents of 20 thousand worldwide libraries. Find out where lies the nearest rare book you need.
https://link.springer.com - access to more than 10 million scientific documents: books, articles, research protocols.
www.bioline.org.br is a library of scientific bioscience journals published in developing countries.
http://repec.org - volunteers from 102 countries have collected almost 4 million publications on economics and related science.
www.science.gov is an American state search engine on 2200+ scientific sites. More than 200 million articles are indexed.
www.pdfdrive.com is the largest website for free download of books in PDF format. Claiming over 225 million names.
www.base-search.net is one of the most powerful researches on academic studies texts. More than 100 million scientific documents, 70% of them are free
Of all the major diseases afflicting cats, chronic kidney disease is one of the stealthiest. It usually creeps up on cats as they get older, but it can also show up more dramatically and have devastating effects. When your cat’s kidneys aren’t able to do their job as usual, it can lead to renal failure and death.
What Is Chronic Kidney Disease?
Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is most common among senior cats 10 years and older. It most often develops over time, with cats showing signs of gradual decline. Accidental poisoning can also cause acute kidney failure in cats of all ages, requiring immediate emergency care.
The kidneys help maintain fluid balance, produce key hormones, regulate electrolytes and blood pressure. And, of course, they excrete bodily wastes in urine. In CKD, all of these important functions are disrupted, leaving wastes to build up in the body.
CKD is not a curable or reversible disease, however, with early detection, support and treatment can improve your cat’s quality and length of life by slowing progression of the disease. In fact, cats can live for many years with consistent management.

What Are The Signs Of Chronic Kidney Disease?
Your cat may show several signs that may be easy to miss. Clinical signs of chronic kidney disease include:
weight and muscle loss (usually gradual)
decrease in appetite
spikey, dull hair coat
increased thirst
increased urination
More obvious and alarming signs include:
vomiting and diarrhea, both possibly containing blood
really bad breath
Cats who are not feeling well tend to hide their illness, by sleeping or hiding more often. Knowing what signs to look for may increase the chance of you discovering their disguise.
Lift your cat to assess her weight, feel her muscles, check the plushness of fur, monitor eating and drinking as best you can and notice how much of what is in the litter box. Any noticeable change should be immediately reported to your veterinarian.
Acute symptoms include a dramatic decline in energy: take him to the vet immediately.
Diagnosis
Just like people, cats benefit from an annual physical examination. These are instrumental in identifying developing problems that may be addressed before they become a real problem, for you and your cat.
A blood sample and urine sample are collected to test how much creatinine and urea – two chemicals that are usually excreted by the kidneys – are present. Electrolytes and red cell numbers are also checked to pick up clues of CKD. They will also check the concentration of your cat’s urine using a test called urine specific gravity. Blood pressure should also be measured. With early diagnosis, more expense and stress may be avoided.
How Is CKD treated?
Dietary management and correction and prevention of dehydration are crucial factors in treatment. Other treatments, such as supplementing with potassium or phosphate binders, and treatment for hypertension or anemia may also be recommended. Your veterinarian will thoroughly discuss your cat’s treatment plan and your role in it. We recommend that you prepare any questions you may have and actively participate in the conversation.
Cats with CKD need extra support, but they’ll return your effort with the love only a cat can give – hopefully for years to come!

An addition, along with a reblog for visibility -
The stat I heard was 1 in 3 cats will get CKD. It is EXTREMELY common. And once kidney function decreases, it can never be regained. It makes us as pet parents feel overwhelmingly helpless, because aside from helping with the symptoms along the way, you cannot make this go away. But you can ABSOLUTELY get ahead of it -
If you take your cat to the vet for regular appropriate checkups.
Antech - a common testing company in USA veterinary medicine - has developed an AI that can predict, with 99.9% accuracy, if a cat will develop CKD. All they need are 2 different blood tests, taken as a control and a comparison. It's done automatically and at no extra cost to all cats whose blood is tested through them. It can't tell you when CKD will develop, but you can act before your cat even shows the slightest symptoms, or even before the disease begins doing damage.
I know I sound like a broken record, but I'm not just saying it to say it! Early detection is key, and can only be done through a veterinarian!
I spent last night looking at Neocities sites and here are my takeaways:
There's a real push to keeping the internet weird, open and less corporate-driven -- info on bypassing paywalls, protecting your data, archiving web media and basic coding/tech literacy.
(I found one tutorial on how to make a pop up that detects whether someone has an ad blocker and suggests they install one if they don't! Love that.)
There's also resources on finding the kind of internet that isn't the default experience anymore - alternate search engines I hadn't even heard of, human-made link lists and webrings. (Webrings! Turns out they never went away!)
If any of that sounds interesting to you, by the way - sadgrl.online has a lot of it and is possibly the best thing on the internet????
The "90's web" aesthetic is really fun and nostalgic, but I particularly loved seeing some people bring the better parts of the "modern internet" into it. What if we had weird, eye-searing personal sites BUT with plaintext alternatives for accessibility purposes? CW for flashing lights and unreality triggers?
(Again sadgrl comes in with a lot of resources for making your website accessible.)
Most of all, I'm honestly emotional about all the sites I found that were like, "hi! I'm 14 and this is my website where I talk about stuff I like haha."
It's so good that so many kids and teens who never experienced the "old internet" are still finding stuff like this and making their own weird stuff! Not just because weird websites are more fun, but because these skills are being passed down.
Anyway it's great and who knows maybe I'll make my own site sometime to keep horror media recommendations or something.
all goofing aside I genuinely don't understand the urge to reimagine Taylor Allison Swift as a secretly queer icon when the pop music scene(TM) is like. literally overflowing with women who actually like women. Gaga and Kesha and Miley and Halsey are right there. Rina Sawayama and Hayley Kiyoko and Rebecca Black and Kehlani and Victoria Monét and Miya Folick if you're willing to get slightly less top 100. Janelle and Demi for them nonbinary takes on liking girls. like what are we doing here. like I'm not even saying you can't enjoy Taylor but why would you hang all your little gay hopes on her.
why have multiple people reblogged this with some horse-assed "um actually most of these people are bi or pan" did I fucking stutter I said they like girls. what is your point. I'm going to kill you.
Things that will make your computer meaningfully faster:
Replacing a HDD with an SSD
Adding RAM
Graphics cards if you're nasty
Uninstalling resource hogs like Norton or McAfee (if you're using Windows then the built-in Windows Security is perfectly fine; if you're using a mac consider bitdefender as a free antivirus or eset as a less resource intensive paid option)
Customizing what runs on startup for your computer
Things that are likely to make internet browsing specifically meaningfully faster:
Installing firefox and setting it up with ublock origin
adding the Auto Tab Discard extension to firefox to sleep unused tabs so that they aren't constantly reloading
Closing some fucking tabs bud I'm sorry I know it hurts I'm guilty of this too
Things that will make your computer faster if you are actually having a problem:
Running malwarebytes and shutting down any malicious programs it finds.
Correcting disk utilization errors
Things that will make your computer superficially faster and may slightly improve your user experience temporarily:
Clearing cache and cookies on your browser
Restarting the computer
Changing your screen resolution
Uninstalling unused browser extensions
Things that do not actually make your computer faster:
Deleting files
Registry cleaners
Defragging your drive
Passively wishing that your computer was faster instead of actually just adding more fucking RAM.
This post is brought to you by the lady with the 7-year-old laptop that she refuses to leave overnight for us to run scans on or take apart so that we can put RAM in it and who insists on coming by for 30-minute visits hoping we can make her computer faster.
Do it. RAM is cheap these days. My laptop maxes out at 40gb and is running 24gb and that is just so I can fuck around on the internet and play with photoshop occasionally. A single 32GB module costs like a hundred bucks and will feel like a dream.
Like, if you're thinking about skipping an upgrade because it would be overkill or too decadent or just ridiculous those are not good reasons to skip an upgrade. Skip an upgrade because you can't afford it, or if there's a technical problem that prevents it, but if you use memory heavy applications there is no reason to skimp on RAM when it's cheap and easy to install.
Your math program deserves a hedonistic paradise, and that is within your grasp as long as you have a hundred bucks and a mailing address.
Now that the Parasite in chief has had her platinum Jubilee, i thought id share some fun facts about the monarchy in the UK and the Queen in particular. All of this information is easily found online.
-The Queen negotiated clauses in the equality and Diversity Act so she wouldn't have to hire 'coloured or foreign' staff in the palace. that clause is still there today.
-The Queen tried to use The State Poverty Fund to heat Buckingham Palace even with her own personal fortune.
-She lobbied the Scottish Parliament 67 times to ensure that new wildlife protections laws woudn't apply to her estates there.
-The main throne she sits on is worth an estimated £40,000,000,000. Her jewellery Collection worth circa £5,000,000,000 made with 28, 578 diamonds and gemstones, almost all of which were stolen from countries Britain invaded and enslaved...sorry colonised. She also banned the Police from searching her estates for stolen artifacts.
-Her crown estate is one of the largest property owners in the country. It has over 26 Royal residencies, inc 9 palaces that remain mostly empty and property portfolio that generates £300 million per year. Yet she had a family thrown out during the covid eviction ban for a £32 unpaid bill.
Her son is a nonce ( pedophile) that she protected through a £12 million payout.
-The 'free' book that was sent to every school to tell kids how wonderful the queen is cost the taxpayer £12 million.
-She has £420 million personal wealth, which doesn't include that for-mentioned crown estate or her antique furniture or her jewellery collection or all the stolen gold.
-She and her family cost the tax payer £345 million per year in security and other protections.
-The jubilee cost the tax payer £28 million , set aside by the chancellor for the purpose of funding it. Whilst there are currently 14.5 million people living in poverty here in the UK.
Celebrating the incredibly rich, racist and privileged whilst millions of our own citizens are suffering is disgusting.
- Buckingham Palace banned ethnic minorities from office roles, papers reveal (2021) (the article says that there is no longer a ban as of the 1990s, however the clause is still there to allow a ban.)
- Queen asked for poverty grant to heat palaces (2010)
- Revealed: Queen vetted 67 laws before Scottish parliament could pass them (2021) (It's unknown if any of the laws were amended due to her lobbying, but the lawmakers were required to get her approval.)
- Revealed: police barred from searching Queen's estates for looted artefacts (2021)
- Hampton Court mews row: Couple face eviction 'over £32 bill' (2020) (The tenant was using a communal socket to power his electric car.)
- Prince Andrew settles US civil sex assault case with Virginia Giuffre (2022) Prince Andrew pays settlement ending sex assault case (2022) (Guiffre was 17 at the time of the assault. The settlement was initially estimated at 12-14 million, in which case he probably couldn't have afforded it (without the Queen's help?), but some reports say that it was as little as 3 million by the end. IDK I couldn't find anything firm from a reputable source.)
- Queen’s jubilee book for schools to cost £12m (2021)
I’ve been pirating stuff a couple years and I want to give some advice in case someone hasn’t done it before
-The piracy subreddit (reddit.com/r/piracy) is a great place to start, there’s a guide there that can give you links to everything you would want (streaming sites, torrenting sites, where to get roms, what torrenting programs to use ect.)
- if your streaming ALWAYS USE A AD BLOCKER (and cookie clearer if you want extra protection) piracy sites 99% of the time are full of ads and pop-ups. If you don’t want to a bunch of local milfs in your area ads covering your screen use a ad blocker. Any ad blocker will work but I’m currently using ublock origin + privacy badger
-if your torrenting ALWAYS USE A VPN,even if it’s a free shitty one. If you don’t use a VPN your isp could try to shut off your internet if you get caught pirating or you could be fined if you live in certain countries, also its generally safer. If you don’t have the money to pay for a VPN I would recommend proton vpn, it’s free and it doesn’t keep logs (which means you data isn’t being kept and sold like most free vpns)
- this is mentioned in the megathread on r/piracy but I’ll mention it here just to make sure. try to avoid using pirate bay,it’s full of malware and viruses. Also don’t use utorrent (when you install it it also installs a bitcoin miner), I would recommend using qbittorrent instead.
saw a post abt HBO removing shows that suggests ppl just “burn dvds” but everyone doesnt know how to do that so here is one way to do that
- get blank dvds (Both +R or -R work, I think +R is slightly cheaper, the difference is rewritability), these are not very expensive for the amount you can get in bulk (if you are in the US 100 of them is about 30$ at walmart)
- an external DVD drive that plugs in via usb is also around 20-40$ (it tends to be closer to 20)
- download DVDFlick (free)
- if you don’t already have the mp4/mpeg of whatever media you want to burn, you can download movies/shows off of sites like gomovies.sx and soap2day
gomovies.sx will have a download button that looks like this
below the video you can choose one of these
if you click streamlare for example and then the download button it will take you here where the mp4 is
(if you’re on an iphone/ipad, clicking download will save it to your files app)
- if you cant find the download button on soap2day you can also install a video downloader extension which will find the movie for you
- at this point you can drag and drop it into a google drive or keep it on your computer but if you still want it on dvd ->
- open dvd flick, drag and drop the video
- click “project settings”
- give it whatever title you want, you can change encoder to “normal” (default is below normal if you are doing other things on the computer). you dont need to change target size or thread count (unless you want to)
- insert a blank dvd into your drive, make sure you click “burn project to disc”
- click accept then click “create dvd” next to menu and project settings. it will create a destination folder and this dialogue box will pop up when you click “create” on more dvds, just click “yes” and then “okay” on the box that appears after it
it’ll take a couple hours, once its done take a sharpie & write whats on it and stick it in a case . or dont . im not ur mom
actually re joking about being ‘the piracy friend’. do yourself a favour and stop relying on tumblr masterlists that are full of broken links and dodgy websites and just bookmark r/FREEMEDIAHECKYEAH’s piracy wiki (backup).
it’s the most comprehensive resource i’ve ever encountered my life and it’s also got so much extra stuff like decent free vpns/antivirus/adblock, a massive list of free software for almost every purpose you can think of, AND a list of custom search engines that mean you can search every site at once or you’re looking for something more obscure (this is how i seem to always have a link to literally anything)
there’s also this rentry, which i can vouch for less because i don’t use it so much but does have info on installing cracked versions of the more popular antivirus programs if you don’t want to pay but also don’t want to trust the free options lol
>First, we’ve discovered that about a quarter of all the internet connection in or out of the house were ad related. In a few hours, that’s about 10,000 out of 40,000 processed.
>We also discovered that every link on Twitter was blocked. This was solved by whitelisting the https://t.co domain.
>Once out browsing the Web, everything is loading pretty much instantly. It turns out most of that Page Loading malarkey we’ve been accustomed to is related to sites running auctions to sell Ad space to show you before the page loads. All gone now.
>We then found that the Samsung TV (which I really like) is very fond of yapping all about itself to Samsung HQ. All stopped now. No sign of any breakages in its function, so I’m happy enough with that.
>The primary source of distress came from the habitual Lemmings player in the house, who found they could no longer watch ads to build up their in-app gold. A workaround is being considered for this.
>The next ambition is to advance the Ad blocking so that it seamlessly removed YouTube Ads. This is the subject of ongoing research, and tinkering continues. All in all, a very successful experiment.
>Certainly this exceeds my equivalent childhood project of disassembling and assembling our rotary dial telephone. A project whose only utility was finding out how to make the phone ring when nobody was calling.
>Update: All4 on the telly appears not to have any ads any more. Goodbye Arnold Clarke!
>Lemmings problem now solved.
>Can confirm, after small tests, that RTÉ Player ads are now gone and the player on the phone is now just delivering swift, ad free streams at first click.
>Some queries along the lines of “Are you not stealing the internet?” Firstly, this is my network, so I may set it up as I please (or, you know, my son can do it and I can give him a stupid thumbs up in response). But there is a wider question, based on the ads=internet model.
>I’m afraid I passed the You Wouldn’t Download A Car point back when I first installed ad-blocking plug-ins on a browser. But consider my chatty TV. Individual consumer choice is not the method of addressing pervasive commercial surveillance.
>Should I feel morally obliged not to mute the TV when the ads come on? No, this is a standing tension- a clash of interests. But I think my interest in my family not being under intrusive or covert surveillance at home is superior to the ad company’s wish to profile them.
>Aside: 24 hours of Pi Hole stats suggests that Samsung TVs are very chatty. 14,170 chats a day.
>YouTube blocking seems difficult, as the ads usually come from the same domain as the videos. Haven’t tried it, but all of the content can also be delivered from a no-cookies version of the YouTube domain, which doesn’t have the ads. I have asked my son to poke at that idea.
