july’s desert
the sun a mirage of warm and
burning and an intense lust. it
makes voyeurs of us all. sand
sticking to sweat-slicked skin.
a panting thing. hot as a fantasy
we cannot yet name.

july’s desert
the sun a mirage of warm and
burning and an intense lust. it
makes voyeurs of us all. sand
sticking to sweat-slicked skin.
a panting thing. hot as a fantasy
we cannot yet name.
~K.T.
waiting up with the light on
eyes heavy as the night, but
i hold out within warm glow.
you shut the lights off. worth
it when your body, warm, curls
against my spine. this safety a
sleep-aid. a reassurance that
the darkness cannot touch me.
~K.T.
tied to change
the seasons do it, so i will too.
there is devotion in beginning
again. to blooming and dying
at will. i choose not to mourn.
instead, i’ll become a spectacle.
~K.T.
food as an act of love.
you bring me a snack after.
we’re lounging in bed. kissing
crumbs from each other’s
mouths. satiating a different
hunger.
~K.T.
i nurse a hunger that cannot be satiated
it sits. stone in my stomach.
weighted. fluttering at any
opportunity. i am hungry, yet
full of these feral feelings. i
am trying not to show this
starve and my saliva covered
thoughts.
~K.T.
blackberry jam
teeth stained. purple in my
gums and my thoughts. i
chew. fingertips the right
amount of sticky. smile so
the seeds can bloom just
as this joy does.
~K.T.
licked the edges of her brain
and she laughed. called me
crazy. could only smile at her
acute observations. always
was a little odd. obsessed. a
beckoning madness that
drives me closer to her warmth.
~K.T.
you sip on august, i devoured july
mango juice still stains the
corners of my mouth. you
can lick summer off me.
never been a messy eater,
but this heat brings monsters
out of me. ravenous. feral
beneath this festering heat.
~K.T.
she broke me
between her fingers. i thanked
her. crumbled in the spaces
between her graceful fingers.
looked up as i fell down. into
the piles of her old lovers. into
an accepting madness.
~K.T.
flirting with the edge
teetering between lust and genuine
love. neither reaches up to catch me.
i’m held all on my own. trying not to
disturb this delicate balance.
~K.T.
over the sea, over me
hold my breath and let waves
crash over my head. can’t open
my eyes in this salted wailing.
i sink in silence. let my back
meet a sanded floor. here, i live
dormant. here, i live forever.
~K.T.
racing the wind
two feet on the board. gravity
a winding knot in my gut. i’m
pushing off down a smoothed
road. breeze against braids.
breath held. smiling against
the rush that leads me forward.
~K.T.
the moon is the night's lover
casting her light upon the darkest
parts of our lives. highlighting the
lonely. the somber. the ones who
burn beneath the sun.
~K.T.
excuse me while i borrow your laughter for a moment
your crow's feet and teeth looked
so beautiful. thought i'd try them.
your boom and boisterous. the hollow
of your throat a home to such joy.
maybe one day i will let birds rest
in the corners of my eyes too.
~K.T.
catch my kiss
keep it tucked in your pocket.
don’t lose it along the way. i
painted my lips pretty just for
you. red as desire. a lust that
doesn’t fade against your touch.
~K.T.
bound to the dark
we don’t need our eyes anyway.
inhale sweet scent of skin. touch
all your favorite places. know this
sweat by taste alone. hear the
desire rise up from warmed throat.
~K.T.
requirements for a new body
something to stand the test
of time. pleasure over pain.
working eyes. don’t ask for
much. only to live how dying
things do. too much confidence
in my limbs. too much sun.
the promise that i can do more.
~K.T.
