Hey!! I’m Ren (he/him, 19)! I’m an artist and writer and appreciator of all things angsty and whumpy, so I’ve decided to have another go at making a whump blog! Pls note this blog is 18+ MDNI.

I’m the world’s leading authority on being obsessed with ATLA so I write a lot of fanfic for that, but I also do some original stuff — I hope to ost some of my work here eventually!

but ive been thinking about whumper slowly introducing the kid to the concept of their other parent being less than

they love the kid, they want to raise the kid to be like them, and of course they miss their old dynamic with their captive, they aren't desperate to keep up the happy family charade

it'd be super fucked up

- giving a toddler a shock collar remote

- telling the kid about how some people are held captive

- the kid growing up with a taste for violence (carrying on the tradition as a 2nd gen whumper)

- but also being hella traumatized in ways they can't even begin to untangle

On the flip side…

Whumpee, who wants to love their kid, and knows up in their head that children are neutral and not at fault for anything that happened to them, but every time they see them, they just see what whumper has done to them. And, whether or not child picks up on whumper parent’s more violent tendencies, whumpee emotionally withdraws and withholds love from child, leading to

-child being emotionally neglected by whumpee parent (which might make it easier for whumper to influence them)

-child developing self-image issues (are they really that scary? are they a monster? then why can’t whumpee stand to look at them?)

-in more extreme cases, child is severely injured or almost killed when whumpee parent snaps, and then has to live with that trauma for the rest of their lives (looking at you, Shouto Todoroki)

Furthermore:

- the neglect/lashing out from Whumpee is used by Whumper as some sort of justification why they can hurt Whumpee (turning the kid against them even further)

- on the same note, kid taking "revenge" for it

- Kid questioning what makes them more like Whumper than Whumpee, are they destined to end up like their less fortunate parent?

- an older kid turning into a carewhumper kind of person?

Classic Prompts.

-> Collapsing only after they’re finally safe.

-> Dragging themselves to the door... and not making it.

-> Whumpee insisting on finishing the job/mission while actively bleeding.

-> Passing out mid-sentence.

-> Injuries that clearly should’ve been treated hours, even DAYS ago.

-> Feverish delirium where they accidentally tell the truth.

-> Waking up restrained and instantly panicking, — rich with heavy breathing, struggle and darting eyes.

-> Trying to fix their own wound and failing.

-> “I'm okay—” immediately followed by collapse

-> Pain meds wearing off at the worst possible moment

-> Whumpee apologizing for being a burden.

-> Whumpee meeting eyes with Whumper in public. No one understands why the intensity exists... The two of them do.

-> Head down, blood pooling where they’re kneeling.

-> Crawling instead of walking because standing is impossible.

-> Hiding an injury so well it fools everyone… until it doesn’t.

lesser known PTSD things in whump

note; these are my personal experiences. i am clinically diagnosed with complex post traumatic stress disorder and also study psychology, and PTSD in general shows up very differently in all people. please be mindful of this information. --- anywho! many a times i see PTSD in whump and in general being represented as flashbacks, nightmares, avoidant behaviour, and so on which isn't wrong or exaggerated, just coming on here with some more symptoms or issues i don't see often, mainly physical manifestations. feel free to give your whumpees an even harder time <3 1. Trauma literally rewires the brain and its no joke. The amygdala is in overdrive constantly. Whumpee's always on edge. The hippocampus reduces in size, and boom, eventually you're losing your mind and your memories of what happened. Now whumpee has little to make sense of why they are the way they are, and whatever they recall is so blurred it's driving them insane. 2. Getting triggered by a smell, sound, even a sensation on the body, like the wind on the skin 'rubbing off' the wrong way and Whumpee's suddenly spiraling. What's worse is the moment itself is so distressing they disassociate before they can help it. It takes hours to come back to their own body and realize that they can't remember anything except feeling lost and terrified that they can't even calm down. And they don't even know or remember why. 3. Following up on the previous prompt, outsiders will have a hard time telling if Whumpee is upset, sleep-deprived or tired (could be!) or simply out of it. Eyes glazed over, expression slack. Maybe their eyebrows are furrowed slightly. They stare into the distance and only hum back responses or a few syllables. Later into the day, somebody asks them what they're angry about. Whumpee stops, and thinks. What are they even upset about? They don't know. 4. Just fucked up hormones in general :/ Effective for female whumpees, intense stress levels interfere with hormone production and can infact halt your menstrual cycle. I struggled with this & when my cycle actually resumed the cramps were like 10x worse than what they were before lol. Additionally, some studies also report that PTSD symptoms worsen during the menstrual phases. Not fun. 5. The immune system of a Victorian child. Falling sick way too often. Headaches that don't go away. Digestive issues that give a Whumpee stomach cramps every time they even try to eat (this varies a lot). AUTOIMMUNE DISEASES OF ANY SORT!! Alot more things that can wrong. LOTS of potential for non-whumper whump. --- all from me for now. based on some unfortunate experiences i've had in the past year :'). hope this helps someone or so

let's hear it for "it's not your fault," one of the whump dialogue phrases of all time. it's so versatile. you've got caretaker saying it to a distressed whumpee who is drowning in guilt and shame. you've got whumpee saying it to caretaker who feels responsible for what happened. you've got whumper saying it to either of them for whatever motivation they have. what can't it do. i love you "it's not your fault" you will always be famous to me.

Do you have any prompts for a whumpee captured by whumper in front of their team/friends?

Getting captured in front of their team

whumper purposely targeting whumpee when they are with their team so reaffirm the knowledge that they are never safe

the team being unable to help because they are across the battle field, or because whumpee has a weapon to their head and they can’t risk it

whumpee desperately turning and twisting, frantically screaming for their team mates

whumper mocking the team’s efforts into whumpee’s ear: “Did you really think they would be able to stop me?” “All this time you’ve been free because I let you be. They could never have stopped me.” “Say goodbye, Whumpee.”

the last thing whumpee sees before passing out is either their team fighting for them, or standing shell shocked as they cant do anythingwithout risking whumpee’s life

upon waking up in captivity, whumpee screams at whumper and demands to know if they hurt their team. whumper plays along and 1. says they are all dead, 2. says they have captured one and kept as leverage, or 3. just grins.

team returning to their base of operations, unable to form a word when whumpee’s partner approaches, their smile slowly dwindling as they repeatedly ask “Where is Whumpee?”

team ready to burn down everything and unable to sleep, remembering the fear in whumpee’s eyes and feeling responsible

The process of un-binding a terrified whumpee.

Having someone hold them still as they drill/saw a chain off.

Untying them gently to reveal bad bruises and cuts from weeks of fighting.

Whumpee staying still until the second their restrains come off.

Restrains that are actively hurting them.

Rescuers know the restraints are the only thing keeping everyone safe, so they leave them on until sedation kicks in, or whumpee collapses from exhaustion.

Having to move them from chains right on in strapping them down on a gurney.

Whumpee pulling themselves to the end of their chain to keep distance from the strangers in uniform.

whumpee who has to be dragged out of a hiding spot by the chain.

Weak restrains that didn't do much, but it didn't matter because whumpee was kept in an exhausted/drug state to even try anything.

Thinking about non-con recovery whump (emphasis on both recovery and whump because I think the recovery process can also be whumpy, if in a different way)

Whumpee finally feeling safe enough to have sex again after being raped, especially if it was a longer-term kind of abuse. Unlike Whumper, their partner is so careful and gentle and attentive to their comfort that they're overwhelmed by it. They start to cry—happy tears, tears of relief—but of course their partner is instantly concerned, thinking something's wrong. Whumpee trying to explain that they're okay, and please don't stop, they just really needed this...

Honestly I love it when a whumpee is found like...literally half dead. They might not have one big life threatening injury or illness, but there are so many little things wrong with them all at once that their body is completely exhausted and the people who find them cannot comprehend how they're even alive when everything in them is worn down so badly. I'm talking like...multiple broken bones, barely an inch of their body that isn't bruised or bleeding, and a rising fever on top of things. They're slipping in and out of consciousness because they simply can't tolerate the constant pain anymore, it's maybe not coming from a severe wound that needs immediate tending on its own, but it's everywhere and it won't stop and they're more tired than they've ever been in their life.

And then of course there's the aftercare; the whumpee finally passing out completely and waking up some time later wrapped warmly in blankets, so sore and stiff and heavily bandaged they can barely move...they weakly ask for water and someone - they have no idea who - brings it to them, and after drinking the only thing they have the strength to think before losing consciousness again is that they're alive, somehow.

I don't know how to go about making a distinction between 'romantic' and 'platonic' for these things, and I don't care to. I just know I love seeing them.
