I see all the things people write about corn fields being liminal spaces or talk like corn will kill your family and as someone who grew up in rural Wisconsin (no matter where we moved we were always less than a block from a corn field) heres what I can tell you.

You'll get lost in there, its taller than you and as soon as you're a few feet in you can lose your bearings cause it's thicker than you think.

Children somehow just know how to get out? I was one of those kids once. Me and my friends played in the corn all the time.

Despite playing the corn all the time I still always had this ominous feeling something was in there with us. Or that something was watching us.

There were sometimes gaps in the corn where some of it was flattened. Most likely from deer or other animals but one time it was 'too big.' We didnt tell anyone about it.

We never went into the corn at night. We knew better.

Corn will tear you up. The leaves will fucking cut you. Somehow none of us ever got cut up despite being told we would, except one time when I tripped and tried to reach for something to hold onto.

Corns kinda loud when it's windy, especially in the fall. Especially when your in it. The leaves scraping together sends a chill up your spine. But we knew better than to run around out there in the fall.
