The Thirty Eight Steps. - Spent a busy few days with @sophie.anderton shooting a campaign in Saint-Paul de Vence. Most of it scouting out locations for our side shots and looking for restaurants or markets (I like to eat every 2.5 - 3 hours. Whilst a great break from training, my little feet were killing me after pounding the cobbles, yet Sophie seemed perfectly happy in her jeezers-creeperz. - I like this shot, because of the juxtaposition of of beauty and fashion to the north with builder and tactical to the south, adjudicated by a swathe of history and design between them. Raleigh Chopper MK1. So much for vacant possession!! - I moved to Ireland when I was six. Well, our Mother did and my brother and I came with the furniture. When we got there, the previous inhabitants had left behind at whole raft of belongings, including a mark one Raleigh Chopper!! - It took me until I was eight to be able to ride it properly, as to begin with, I was too small to reach the pedals from the seat. So, I used to sit on the cross bars to ride, using the orange pad in the picture of the child's seat for cushioning. - The mark one differed from later models in that it had larger span handlebars, round gear knob, longer seat and straight rear stanchions. I loved it and rode the hell out of it, often taking it out on long rides to neighboring villages with @charleyboorman and friends, who used to leave me for dust with their race bikes. - By the time that I could ride it properly, I could also ride a motorcycle. But that's another story... - I've no idea what happened to my Raleigh Chopper, as acquired, and only sourced this picture on the internet for reference. No doubt, the lucky owner has many a story too. However, I just snapped a picture of the chair in my kitchen, as I use it when working on bikes to this day. It's in the way that you sell 'em! - Actually, everything about Accu's products is pretty special. I first found the Company online (www.accu.co.uk) when looking for small components with which to complete a rally build. I was instantly struck by the cleanliness of their website and the ease with which I could make orders and edits. Not only that, but despite being competitively priced, Accu allows for single item purchases, as opposed to having to bulk buy, as is the case with most online small parts manufacturers and suppliers. - I ordered my parts from Accu in the UK on a Monday evening and received them in Ireland the following Wednesday morning. I couldn't believe it when they arrived; quicker than most local companies!! - The quality of the packaging is second to none; the type that you keep, as it feels wasteful to discard. Beware: Trip Wire & Cliff! We were out at the Glendalough Lakes a while ago and happened upon this sign. Risk assessment aside, It's great that the health and safety powers that be kindly considered the dangers to people scaling the slope to the horizon. It's big, it's black, it's steaming and I be afraid of it!! - I'm posting this for my Elvis impersonating wannabe friend, @james.a.healy who rightly pointed out that my shot depicts none of the above mentioned attributes. - Well, he's right on three counts, as it's only a medium sized cup, despite its being a @blackriflecoffee brew, there's a dash of milk in there and by the time that I finished telling the Mrs. to clean the crap of the table and I took the shot, it was but lukewarm. - That being said, I am afraid of it. I drink coffee about once every quarter. Stepping Stones to the Sun... I took this shot whilst on a recce with my Mrs for the perfect site to shoot her in a dress during lockdown. At this point, citizens were allowed to travel within 5km of their homes for a period of up to 2 hours, before being arrested and beaten to within inches of our lives and then hung upside-down on a rack in the village green (at least that's what the man in the graveyard warned!). Anyway, looking on Google Maps, I noted the distance between the Glendalough monastic site, of which the lakes form part, and the south western most tip of our extensive garden as being just under 5 clicks. So, off we went! Both pics were taken with the same old iPhone 6 that I've been using since lockdown started, when my newer phone went on the blink. It's the way that the direct sunlight affects the lens when shooting near straight into it and it's earlier morning angle that make it look somewhat B&W. Stairway to Penston This is a picture of the subject matter that a good ole friend o' mine, Sue Penston painted. She sent me a copy of her picture and asked me to try to take a picture of the original stairscape, which she found in an old courtyard to the side of the main house on the estate that is home to Electric Picnic. To my amazement, her painting was so accurate that, within a dozen or so shots, I was able to capture it nearly exactly. It's things like this picture, of its dilapidated view, that I really like. Ille de la Harpe. Situate in Lac Leman, just off the Rolle shore in Switzerland. Lac Leman, of course, being famous for being one of the few places on the planet that clearly demonstrates how the centrifugal force of the earth spinning works with gravity to effect the lie of the land or, in this case, a body of water. The apparent effect is magnified by the growth of trees on the island.
