now that the media has continued on their roll of being disgusting in regards to how they treat such devastating situations such as the 215 lost indigenous children found in kamloops this past week, i absolutely encourage all of my canadian and non-canadian people on here to really look into and read about the history of residential schools in canada. this is one mass grave found at 1 of 139 residential schools across the country, we don’t even know the half of what is still out there to be found. this is not just a ‘devastating part of our history’ the last one to close was in 1996, less than 30 years ago. this is our PRESENT, these children would have been elders in their community, guides, grandparents, this isn’t history. this was a genocide, and the government of canada still refuses to acknowledge that.

the history of residential schools told from the perspective of indigenous people of canada - this website also provides other information in regards to the truth and reconciliation commission, as well as more information about how indigenous people’s are still fighting for the truth to come out.

st anne’s residential school in port albany, ontario was one of the worst of them all, and many of the indigenous children who were forced to attend are currently fighting for the entire truth to be revealed.

I‘m so angry and disgusted right now. I read about my home country, East Turkistan. (China calls it Xinjiang.) for a while, I stopped reading reports because I was suffering. No, you don't understand, I already have a storyboard and key frames of the moment where Kaz wakes up among all the corpses and then tries not to die himself. I have a clear picture of his exhausted, weak, lithe-limbed body climbing in the harbor. With ragged clothes, wet skin and salt-covered hair he stands up. He tries his damn hardest not to fall on his knees because he knows he won't get up. The camera slowly but surely zooms in on his features and the moment a wave behind him strikes the harbour he looks the audience right in their eyes. His own eyes are full of rage, full of pain and full of spite. The boy died (to be resurrected later) and the new man was born.

I love Kanej more than life itself but a lot of the time, I can't stand going into the tag. Why is everyone so staunchly against healing? It's not empowering or healthy to be held back by your trauma. There's absolutely nothing wrong with wanting to see two people work through their issues and grow together. Pushing the idea that a desire to heal is "erasing trauma " is so incredibly damaging and it really hurts me to see it. Honestly, that's ableism at its finest.

I have no issues with yt self-inserts or OCs. Create as many.

But I clearly said i find it ridiculous that all these OCs are "discount yt versions" of the same brown girl who is Kaz's canon love interest.

Atleast make some effort to be original instead of saying "this OC is an acrobat, can throw knives, was a slave and has nimble feet"

No but you're so right and you should say it.

Nobody is saying don't create OCs or write self-inserts but when the OC is exactly the same as a character that already exists and that character is a woc, that's when it becomes a problem. Reader fics are fine and for a lot of people they bring a kind of comfort but I would highly recommend creating an actual original character rather than tossing aside a brown girl to make room for a white version.

(Or just write Kanej seeing as the characters are practically the same anyway)

while we’re on this, i have noticed that while people are making these ocs as, as you put it “discount yt versions” of inej, people are also ignoring the touch aversion trauma that kaz has because inej has scenes where kaz kisses her in the faintest form, but forget he literally pushed her away directly after by telling her he was a monster and killed people. where kaz holds their hands and such.

inej actually was around kaz long enough to get to that point. you’re setting your character literally in inej’s shoes.

don’t make your character a white version of a woc, and don’t ignore kaz’s trauma and don’t copy inej’s. that’s not creating a character, that’s stealing another because you don’t like that she’s brown and are completely misinterpreting the relationship inej and kaz have.

These are just the last three fics I wrote. I appreciate the likes, believe me I do, but you have to understand. Likes do nothing for content creators. It’s the reblogs. Because that’s how you find shit on your dashboard. Through reblogs. Not likes. This isn’t twitter or tiktok or instagram. This is a website that’s run by the reblog system.

Reblogging helps content creators put their stuff out there. Why do you think so many people stopped writing fanfic and creating beautiful fanart and edits? It’s because they put in hours of work and don’t get nearly enough notes for their masterpieces. Yes we do this because we enjoy it but like...some validation won’t hurt. A boost of confidence here and there might be all someone needs to finish whatever thing they started and left.
