I may hate FPSs but Borderlands is a good fucking game and I will defend the whole goddamn franchise to my grave

Like…I don’t think you understand how much I love Borderlands. I may not post about it a lot, but those games are honestly some of the best, if not the best, games on the market today.

It has a shocking amount of diversity for its genre:

(The player characters for BDL1 including a black man, a woman, and a latino man.)

(The player characters for BDL2 including a bisexual man (which is shown in canon, not just confirmed by the devs), an asexual woman (who is also confirmed to be the leader), another latino man, a nonbinary person, a disabled girl genius, and Krieg.)

(The player characters for The Pre-Sequel including a disabled man, a robot, a lesbian woman (who ends up in a relationship with another woman by the end of the game), an older black woman, a millennial, and an Indian woman.)

(And I’m also including Ellie in here because she’s a fat woman who is confident in herself and isn’t made into a joke and you get to kill a bunch of people who try to make fun of her)

…and doesn’t fall into the trap of being “gritty” and “realistic” by making a bleak, beige landscape. While the world of Pandora is a hellhole, it looks honestly awesome. 

It’s colorful and vibrant, with amazing characters and it’s hilarious, but doesn’t shy away from darker moments. (Spoilers in links) 

It’s a masterpiece of gaming and everything a game could and should be.

I’m slowly getting more and more angry.  I’m drawing Insurrection Mercy and when I’m looking at Google graphics, half of pictures are G....Y!!  WHY?!

My biggest issue with people who hate Mercy76...

Is that 99% of the time automatically assume that we’re shipping 17 year old Mercy with 30+ year old Jack.

We’re not.  Or at least I’m not.

You do know that you can meet someone for the first time and then, 7 years later, meet them again.

LIKE WHAT IS THIS MAGIC?!  CAN IT BE POSSIBLE!?!

I’ve never met someone to meet them several years later.  Like… that never happens. #sarcasm  OH WAIT.  That’s right, it happens all the time.  You meet someone, brief as it might be, and then X years later, you can bump into them again.

And you know what, they are X years older?!

I’m pretty sure I read somewhere that Mercy met the team BEFORE she went off to go be a doctor.  After becoming a doctor, she was approached and asked to join.

So Jack met her at 17.  Cool, he probably just thought she was a smart kid. He probably didn’t have an interest in her whatsoever because he was likely more worried about his career.

Years later, she joins Overwatch.  She’s grown up.  She’s an adult now.  Been to college, had a job, changed jobs.  Wants to change/save the world.  She has matured.

And omg… maybe he’s just now starting to develop feeling for her.  

She’s no longer 17!

So yeah, I’m not shipping a 17 year old with a 30+ year old.  I’m shipping a mature 26(ish) year old with a 40 year old (and don’t get me started on AU worlds where their age can literally be off by 2 years because the author decides to shrink the age gap; like it is their creative right as an author to write their fanfics as they want).  That’s 14 years and they are both consenting adults.

ALSO!!  

If Mercy76 is creepy to you, I better not find out you’re shipping Han Solo x Princess Leia.  They have to have at least 10 years between them.  Just saying.

why i like mercy76

- they were good friends before overwatch fell. i love me that friends to lovers shit - unlimited angst potential. “i cried at your goddamn funeral, jack.” - they’re both idealists. 76 of course is gruff now to save face but deep down i’m sure morrison’s dream of the world’s heroes working together to save humanity is still alive in 76, and angela is no different. she is just as much enthused about saving people and making the world a better place as he was, and probably still is. i feel like her care and optimism would bring his out again. - “heroes never die.” “old soldiers never die… and they don’t fade away.” - did i mention the angst? because holy shit angela probably BLAMES HERSELF for jack’s death and gabriel’s “death”… she testified during the UN hearings about their relationship and probably wondered if something she said made something go wrong between them or if she contributed to the stress of the inquiry and somehow… indirectly led to them both getting to their breaking point. SHE PROBABLY BLAMES HERSELF!!! and when jack reveals he’s alive she probably hates him but can’t even face him because she knows deep down he knows it’s partially her fault and jack has to apologize so many times over and when angela apologizes he fuckin BREAKS DOWN and wonders how she could have ever blamed herself for jack’s failings and cruelty - ALSO ANGELA WAS T H E R E WHEN THE SWISS HQ EXPLODED. SHE WAS ABLE TO FIND GABRIEL’S BODY AND SORT OF KIND OF SAVE HIM FROM DEATH (NOT REALLY) but like… do you think she ever thought about how she couldn’t find and save jack too?? how much does angela blame herself in this case. - i have a lot of feelings about dr. angela ziegler but anyways - angela is one of the only constants between then and now, probably. i feel like 76 would appreciate how steadfast she is. she hasn’t changed. she is a rock at sea when the boat has crashed - she’s lighthearted and seems like a gentle and sweet person but does have a lot of darkness behind her and 76 is gruff and a little ornery but somewhere there’s remnants of the smiley bright heroic overwatch poster boy and there is balance in that - i love their design contrasts and comparisons. she is bright, comforting, and angelic, and he is rough and tumble and military, faceless and scarred. but there’s some sort of costumey brightness to 76’s outfit (maybe it’s the stupid red white and blue you little patriotic shit) and there’s still a little comparison. - speaking of those scars - there’s so much potential in that conversation. mercy has a interaction with ana about offering to fix her eye and ana says she’d rather keep it this way - i’m pretty sure 76 would refuse to have his scars removed. he deserved those. best not to erase them. (angst, my friends.) - wanna go deeper? wrt the above angst hcs, angela probably feels personally responsible for those scars. - there would be so much healing going on between them. literally and figuratively. it’s, like… healthy angst. productive angst. - angela seems like the type of person to not go easy on 76, though. he did terrible things. no matter how angela feels there are still things he needs to answer for and she would make sure he did so… she isn’t soft and she isn’t so emotional to have a reunion overshadow what he did. there is no automatic forgiveness and there is expectation of responsibility - okay but more lighthearted stuff less within the realm of headcanon… - is the doctor/soldier dynamic not a tried and true winning pair? - angela patching up jack a million times when they were in overwatch together and her patching him up a million times in the present, and it feels nice and familiar and warm - and in return hey he’ll keep her safe with some biotic fields and cover fire (not that she always needs it, DAE surprising amount of damage) - HEY MORE ANGST i lied about lighthearted stuff. angela is a pacifist. she thinks war is pointless and endless but jack morrison is a soldier. there’s a dynamic there that is confusing and there’s moral conversations to be had - okay back to light stuff - JUST!! THE BATTLE WEARY SOLDIER AND THE ANGEL!!!! IS THIS NOT SUCH AN A+ DYNAMIC? - angela knew both him and gabriel really well. i feel like she might be one of the only people to understand, or at least mostly understand, what they went through and what happened between them. that was a big part of 76s past and probably a formative relationship and their fight was a formative event for him. it would be nice for him to have someone who lived through what happened and who knew someone who was such a big part of his life - and ok this one is just something i like personally, but i really like the potential for pining. like, imagine if you will: jack morrison being sweet on the good doctor zeigler all the way back in 2065, and she’s… a good deal younger than him so he says nothing but flirts a little, but the years go by and he realizes his little crush on her hasn’t quite gone away yet and he’s graduated from admiring how cute and blonde she is to thinking about how capable of a surgeon she is and how much he admires her dedication to her work and her passions and her innate belief that peace will win and heroes will never die and how hard she works and how tired she looks and how much he wishes he could just help her out sometimes and he’s like Oh No and Squashes That Mf Down because again he is a little old for her and also second in command and isn’t there rules against that kind of thing? part of his mind mumbles that she’s head of the medical division and thus is high up on the chain of command as well and he puts that shit on lock REAL fast. but he dies and decides to tell no one and when he comes back and is so different she is still the same, but older, wiser, magnitudes more capable and mature and every feeling he ever had for her comes back in a rush. but there is no way in hell she will ever or can ever know. look where any sort of love got him last time. - blurry image of a hand hitting a button and the button says THAT ANGSTY PINING SHIT on it - two words. HURT/COMFORT. - BOTH WAYS. THEYRE BOTH HURTING. LET THEM COMFORT EACH OTHER

- the mom/dad dynamic. it’s fuckin cute. sue me - GRUMPY MAN, GENTLE NO-SHIT TOUGH LADY IT’S TRIED AND TRUE AND JANE AUSTEN HAD IT WHY CAN’T I - they work really well together in game dgsggddg if it’s in the meta it’s a ship - height difference - SHE’S TINy, HE’S STRONK, SMALL MOM LOVES BUFF DAD NEWS AT 11 - visor kisses - have you seen some of the fanart for this ship it is,, gorgeous

alright that’s all i can really think of because it’s late but… yeah, this is why i ship mercy76, i know it gets some bad press but… you guys, it’s great,

(also i know some people are Concerned about the age difference and are concerned about the fact that mercy supposedly joined overwatch at 17. the age difference thing is a personal thing, i can’t fault you for what you think of it. i mean, we don’t know how much older 76 is than mercy. HOWEVER, mercy did NOT join overwatch at 17, this has been confirmed by a lead writer, there’s a theory going around that she joined at age ~26.)
