hmo i just woke up and had this super angsty dream abt meanie nerd!jake omg i need to pause my life for a second to write this cz wtf was that amazing shi
ok now i feel stupid because was kinda obvious...? that doyoung was her uncle🙂 i mean he sends her father letters about her behavior, her grades, what was happening to her, and ig other things? and no one ever really questioned it, but i think we should have😭 i mean, what professor would do that for a student?
-🌸
noo baby u're not stupid don't say that😔✋🏻
DAS WAT IM SAYINNNN doyoung always has an eye on her. and not because gallahan asked him to, he genuinely cares about his niece.
aaaand, u didn't hear this from me, but snowy sees doyoung more as a dad to her than gallahan.. 😶🌫️
ok i need to reread ALL the smau again because i feel like this new info conects a lot of pieces give me one hot sec rn
🤭🤭🤭 you're gonna be surprised actually cz i always put there a lot of little hints, and nobody ever mentioned it, i wonder if it was THAT obvious or it feel js irrelevant to question😆
I just read last GFI! update and I have a question. Are you mexican? You say eng isn't your native language so I'm curious hahaha. Also I'm so excited for the last 2 updates! You're amazing Kazu.🩷
HAHAHAH I MADE IT OBVIOUS, RIGHT??😆 i was hoping i could keep the secret a little longer but i just read a smau on twt with mexican slang and it was SO GOOD i had to add some of it in the last update LOL
yeah! i'm mexican, and i speak a really mexican(? spanish,, if you can call it that lmao
Soobin being the suportive old brother while Beomgyu and Keeho are the typical overprotective ones is so funny. is that why he wasn't in the mean girls gc? 😭
that's exactly the dynamic of those three HAHAHAH the fact soobin is a ravenclaw already makes him the voice of reason, but kyo and beom need someone with a conscience to keep them from getting in trouble
and yeah, that's part of the reason why soobin isn't in mean girls™, but also cz he knows heeseung better than the others since he was a prefect. so he's not in favor of the others wanting to get revenge on him for what he said about snow and her friends. ("he's a party pooper" beom said when he and kyo created the gc)
heeseung being snow #1 defender is one of my favorite things🥺 the way he stands up for her with her father even when he said he doesn't want to be involved anymore is just sooo😭😭 dude just go and kiss her istg
i've been saying, he doesn't play abt his girl uhuh
he loves her sososo much yk, he folds in a second without any pressure when it comes to her ><
real life pulled me away from here for a few days cz i'm trying to stop being jobless tehee (spoiler: still jobless) and i accumulated some asks that i'm going to answer now, so please excuse the slight spam🙇🏻♀️

To say heeseung was about to shit his pants was an understatement.
all the way down from the ravenclaw tower felt like his shoes were carrying stones, each step heavier than the last.
if he had to blame someone, he would blame sunghoon. if only he had taken another twenty minutes to gossip about what he snooped out of yeosang's call, heeseung would now be walking blindly and calmly towards his own death, without worry, without his mind being a storm of thoughts, without racking his brain thinking about the thousand and one possibilities of how that conversation would go.
heeseung may be many things for sure, but stupid isn't one of them (some people might want to disagree right now). he knows why headmaster doyoung is calling him to his office at this hour, of course he probably wouldn't know if it weren't for sunghoon, but he knows.
inevitably questions pops into his mind, giving him no time to avoid it.
has mr. ashbourne spoken to his daughter already?
has he apologized to her, not only for the fiasco at the party, but also for the way he has treated her until now?
did that conversation end well? if not, y/n have someone to hug right now? someone who could wipe away her tears and give her some chocolate to ease the headache she probably had?
he wonders if she said she missed her mother and went up to the tower's rooftop to look at the stars and cry a little more without anyone seeing her... she never liked appearing weak in front of others after all.
but lately he's noticed her clinging to her friends more.
that's good, that's very good.
...are they comforting her right now?
he just hopes she's not looking at the stars alone.
without even realizing it, heeseung was already standing in front of the office where an iron eagle stuck to the door, with a charm that make it move, looked at him with curiosity.
“...hi, inzy. can i come in? headmaster doyoung called me.” after a few awkward seconds, the eagle finally changed its form into a handle, letting him pass.
heeseung took a deep breath before opening the door, and when he finally did his legs almost gave out.
he expected to meet again the terrifyingly elegant, distant and confident man he had met at new year's party, but who was inside that office was just a man with bags under his eyes, someone exhausted who, for an adult, looked even more lost than heeseung did when he was fifteen.
the professor is nowhere to be seen but that doesn't stop him from going completely into the room before closing the door behind him.
“i believe headmaster doyoung said you wanted to talk to me, sir?” he is surprised at how steady and calm his voice sounded. he almost thought someone else was talking for him.
heeseung's voice seemed to snap the man out of his trance, and almost like a spring, he jumped up from the sofa to greet him. “...hi heeseung, yes. i think... i really think we need to talk.” the man, visibly nervous, wipes his hands on the sides of his pants, looking everywhere except directly at the boy in front of him. “please sit down, i'm afraid you'll get tired.” gallahan points to the other sofa with his hand, lowering it instantly when he notices the incessant trembling throughout his arm. if it weren't for the overall situation, heeseung would find it amusing to see the man so nervous about his presence.
“on the contrary, i think will be a very short talk i don't need to sit for, sir.” heeseung can't believe what's coming out of his mouth, but he doesn't regret it either. in fact, deep down, gives him satisfaction to see the man squirm uncomfortably.
“...fair enough, if that's what you want, kid... i deserve it, after all.” gallahan sighs, with a posture full of defeat.
neither of them sits down, but heeseung ends up getting closer to the rest area inside the office.
“i made a mistake, well, actually many, too many... it's all been mistake after mistake since my daughter and i lost her mother.” heeseung doesn't know why, but his throat closes up at the mention of y/n. or maybe he does know why, but it's not like he'll say it out loud. “i don't blame the situation, of course. it's all my fault.”
“i apologize to you, heeseung. you didn't deserve that disrespect from my mother. you were my daughter's special guest that night, and i deeply regret that you weren't treated as such.” the boy opens his eyes in astonishment, expecting anything but an apology, a real apology. “i also apologize for my lack of respect towards you, towards the bond you've formed with my daughter. i didn't know about you two, about everything that had happened in the last two years, it doesn't justify it and i accept the mistake was mine, for failing as a father for her.” with one hand near his heart, the man finishes speaking and lowers his head.
heeseung freezes.
he couldn't believe he was actually receiving the apologies he thought would never come, so accustomed to the pureblood arrogance that dominated the magical world, he thought he was dreaming for a moment.
gallahan and y/n have such a similar way of speaking that it's difficult for him to doubt the man's sincerity.
it's the humorless laugh of the man that snaps heeseung out of his stupor. “i don't even know how on earth i let my mother convinced me to make an arranged marriage for my daughter, without even considering whether she already had someone special in her life.”
heeseung couldn't help but snap a little, full of indignation. “you should be more concerned about having tried to marry her off without her permission than about whether she already had someone in her heart, sir.” realizing what he had just said, heeseung pressed his lips together and looked away, avoiding the surprised gaze of the man in front of him.
he hadn't expected to say it out loud, but he wasn't going to apologize or regret saying it either.
“yeah... yeah, you're right. i already spoke to her about it... didn't go so well, to say the least.” gallahan lowers his gaze to his own feet.
heeseung gets the impression the man is remembering his conversation with his daughter.
“with all due respect, sir, i hope sn-...y/n has put you in your place.”
the man laughs with a sigh. both of them, knowing the girl in question, know exactly what he means.
“she did, she's... very much like her mother in that respect.”
heeseung is a little surprised to hear the pride and what he believes to be longing in the man's voice.
he doesn't seem even a little embarrassed to say his daughter scolded him, and heeseung refuses to acknowledge the warm feeling settling in his chest.
“i not only hurt my daughter by taking my mother's advice, but i also hurt three innocent people because of my stupidity.”
seeing the man insulting himself causes heeseung to shift uncomfortably on his feet. “...you know, mr. kang is partly to blame, sir. and don't even get me started on mrs. ashbourne.” he murmurs, scratching the back of his neck.
gallahan shakes his head, with an almost ironic smile. “they'd hardly admit they were to blame for anything, kid. besides, right now i'm the only one who can properly apologize.” that catches heeseung's attention.
he wonders if it's a good idea to ask...
“...it's true that your mother is going to azkaban, sir?”
gallahan looks at the boy in surprise, not expecting him to know about it.
“...gossip really does travel faster than a spell here.” he tries to joke, but heeseung's serious expression tells him he expects a real answer.
something that gallahan doesn't dare to deny him.
“...yes, she's going to azkaban as we speak.”
heeseung analyzes the man's face, searching for something, anything, any gesture.
however, it's gallahan's calm expression that makes him ask.
“do you regret it?”
“no.” he answers instantly, as if he'd been expecting that question. “not at all, no. if that means my daughter will live peacefully for the rest of her life, then i would do it a thousand times over.”
“...if that's the case...why didn't you do it before, sir?”
the question hangs in the silence that fills the room, gallahan seems to be seriously considering his answer.
he walks calmly to the balcony behind the main desk, looking for air, trying not to feel suffocated by reliving memories that shaped his answer.
“...i think there's really never an age to stop being afraid of your parents... living through a war and being sent to serve the dark lord against your will at such young age does that to you.” heeseung standing behind him, instantly understands why the man doesn't look at him when he answers. shame in his voice is more than enough truthfulness to his words.
“...almost forgot that part.” the boy whispers, regretting asking a little.
“yeah... i guess you only stop being afraid when you have something truly beautiful to protect.” longing in his words is something heeseung can't help but identify with.
“that's true.” he quickly agrees, because he understands what the man means, what it signifies.
he thinks about the beautiful smile he hasn't stopped missing.
although he still refuses to admit it, deep down he knows that smile made worth being brave.
“...i lost one of the beautiful things i wanted to protect.” heeseung only sees gallahan's back and can only wonder what face he's making right now. “focused so much on my pain that i forgot i still had something much more valuable that needed my protection... and i failed, i failed her, i failed her mother.”
gradually his voice fades until all heeseung hears is a guilt-filled murmur.
“because i was a coward, i was afraid, i was stupid and a fool.”
that lingers more than heeseung dares to admit.
gallahan lets out a soft laugh that sounds like a sob.
“she swore on her mother's name if she lost you she would hate me for the rest of her life.” heeseung holds his breath. “she... didn't even look me in the eye when i spoke to her earlier. i wonder if this is how she felt when i did the same thing for so many years.”
he walks slowly until he is to the man's left side. when he looks at him, he also catches the ghost of a tear rolling down his cheek.
he looks down at the forest below them without saying a word.
“and she's there, breathing, full of life...but why do i feel like i've lost the most beautiful thing in my life for the second time?”
heeseung catches out of the corner of his eye how the man's shoulders slump, dejected.
for a moment, silence returns.
heeseung forces himself to think he has his guard up, that he feels no empathy for the man falling apart beside him, that he doesn't believe anything he has said so far.
reality is he's just a hair's breadth away from breaking down along with the man.
but he doesn't want to show it.
if it weren't for his intelligence, his pride would easily make him pass as a gryffindor. and it's pride that makes him distrust every little action.
the question comes out wildly from his mouth, almost judging, almost annoyed.
“...you're not here to ask me to talk to her so she'll forgive you, are you, sir?”
gallahan's head snaps towards heeseung. the incredulous look he gives the boy makes him hesitate, but it's the hurt tone in his voice that makes heeseung's stomach churn.
“no! good merlin, not at all. that would be so messed up heeseung, i'm sorry to give you that impression.”
he presses his lips together, looking away, barely avoiding the apology that wants to escape his throat.
okay maybe heeseung feels a little bad thinking that way when the man went straight to apologize as soon as he entered the room.
can you blame him? he's literally traumatized.
“i just think... you needed to hear that before it's too late. so you wouldn't have any regrets, so you wouldn't make the same mistakes i made.”
so he knows.
that's heeseung's first thought.
he knows right now he and y/n are being silent with each other.
he wonders if was y/n who told him.
if so, he wonders what she said.
“she... this is crazy, she really loves you, you know? i take pride in saying she got her crazy and devoted way of loving from me... you know how i realized that?” and there is again, that pride in his voice when he speaks of y/n.
heeseung wonders if he talks about her like this with his friends, with his colleagues, if perhaps the only person with whom he doesn't know how to express himself it's his daughter.
that would piss him off greatly because the man's emotional constipation would be the cause of the very emotional constipation that his daughter has made him battle with for the past two years.
“how, sir?”
“she said she would drop our last name if necessary so she could spend the rest of her life with you.”
that almost knocked the air out of heeseung's lungs.
gallahan laughs, looking beyond the starry sky, staring directly into some memory in his head.
“she doesn't even care if i can disinherit her for that, if she loses her name, her place, her identity in the magical world. she just wants... to be with you. and that, heeseung, is the kind of love only she and i can give.”
suddenly, the words of y/n return to his mind like a whirlwind,
'i'll be there when you decide what's next between us, i'll be there to listen, and i'll be there to accept whatever you wish. even if it takes you weeks, months... years. i'll still be there.'
he feels his eyes fill with tears and his throat close up, with a single thought in mind.
when you truly love, you do it beyond anything i ever imagined.
“i don't know, i really don't know how you managed to bury yourself in her heart like that. but i will always be grateful to you.”
at this point heeseung has completely broken down, letting go of his pride, his anger, his pain. he finds absurd how the man beside him can say something like that when he has only seen him twice, and the first time was a nightmare for both of them.
but above all, he feels he can no longer hide how much he misses y/n, how much he needs her.
“i... i don't know what to say, sir. i'm... i'm not even part of her life anymore.”
“...but i'm sure you know what to do now.”
“i... w-what if-what if i'm not enough? w-what if i don't meet your expectations or hers?”
gallahan cuts his spiral instantly, shaking his head.
“you're the headboy of hogwarts, you sent a criminal to azkaban, and i know when you enter the ministry, because you will, you'll be an excellent auror. kid, you're a fucking ravenclaw, that says it all. i think you fit perfectly where you are right now, heeseung.”
the boy bites his lip, uncertain.
the real worry that has been gnawing at him from the start finally comes out in a broken whisper. “b-but my- my blood-”
“my wife was a werewolf.”
that statement from the man seems to stop time for heeseung.
his eyes widen almost comically and he can't help but raise his voice in surprise. “i-i'm sorry, what!?”
“didn't y/n tell you?”
heeseung shakes his head.
he never felt there was a right time to talk about her mother, so he simply avoided it as much as possible, out of respect.
now he just wonders if asking would've prevented the way his insecurities gradually grew as his relationship with y/n progressed.
“she was bitten near the end of the war. when i found out... nothing really changed, if anything, only strengthened my determination to protect her. then i married her as soon as we left hogwarts.” a nostalgic smile paints gallahan's face. “in the same way that y/n did, i also threatened my mother with dropping my last name. she could no longer afford to have more children because my father was in his very comfortable suite in azkaban and she wasn't going to let her pureblood last name disappear with the war. so she reluctantly accepted amelya as her daughter in law and gave her our last name. i really was a lucky bastard back then.”
heeseung can't quite process all the information he's just been given, yet that doesn't stop all those doubts and worries he's been carrying from slowly disappearing from his shoulders.
“you'll be fine. nowadays, being a good wizard matters more than the status of your blood and your last name.”
overwhelmed with so much emotions, heeseung could only look at the man with gratitude.
“...thank you so much, sir. for this, for the apologies. i think... will take me a little while to forgive you, but i think i can do it.” heeseung says sincerely. while a part of him may finally be able to move on, he would still need time to trust the man.
gallahan knows this, and understands, so he gently pats the boy's shoulder assuring him he respects his decision.
“i can wait, there will be more than enough time to earn your forgiveness.”
they both smiled gently, feeling they could breathe more easily.
is going to be a long road, especially for gallahan, but that small shared moment was already a start, a good start.
“...are you going to be okay, sir?”
“...i will be, as long as my daughter allows me to amend what i cannot fix.” and although he looks dejected when he thinks about it, he also smiles at heeseung. “don't worry about me, kid. i don't deserve your concern yet.”
'i'm not worried...' heeseung thinks out of pure pride, but deep inside he knows very well what he's feeling.
“and please stop with that 'sir' thing. makes me feel so old.”
“...would you be okay if at some point i start calling you dad?”
“...don't push it, kid.”
for the first time in weeks, heeseung lets out a laugh that makes him feel stupid, because his face is soaked with his tears, but he still finds it amusing to think that he'll have a lifetime to tease the man in front of him.
“... but that would be great, yeah.” it's a whisper heeseung can't hear.
the man suddenly checks the watch on his wrist, as if he had just remembered something. “ah, i have another meeting in hogsmeade. i don't want to be late.”
“go ahead then, don't make yeosang and san wait.”
“... seriously, gossip spreads like wildfire here.”
“you'd be surprised, sir-...sorry.”
gallahan smiles.
he'd be lying if he said talking and ranting about his traumas with heeseung didn't make him feel better.
he feels more alive for the first time in weeks, and deep down he hopes the boy feels the same.
“seriously, thank you for listening to me today, heeseung. i apologize again.”
heeseung nods, extending his hand towards the man with a light smile that finally doesn't feel forced.
“thank you. i hope your talk with yeosang and san goes well.”
gallahan mimics the gesture and they both shake hands, almost as if sealing a deal.
“and i hope you found the answers you were looking for, kid.”
“...yeah, i think i did.”
but oh well.
what heeseung didn't know yet was that he still had to earn the forgiveness of a group of overprotective friends if he wanted to talk to y/n and finally fix this whole mess for good.
what?
don't look at me like that!
y/n said she would wait.
and her friends will make good use of that wait.
