Hal from Megamind is hilarious cuz this dude got superpowers and a lot of girlies were thirsting over superheroes in their universe and since he was already so horny he could've gotten some but no he gets bitter cuz Roxanne didn't want to put out and he decides to turn evil. Now he's never gonna get some. Idiot. Look how Metro Man never got bitter that Roxanne didn't want him and he still saved her every time and was still a superhero and her good friend and loved all people.

Seriously, everytime I see that "dead parent/abusive parent makes for an interesting character" argument, I wanna bang my head against the wall.

Just because a character has a tragic backstory (like abusive or dead parents) doesn't mean they are an interesting character.

Familial trauma is not the only trauma out there! You can make a character with a tragic backstory without killing their family or having said family abuse them. Marinette may have a loving family, but that doesn’t mean her life has been all sunshine and rainbows. No one goes through life unscathed.
