Finishing this little painting for a group show based on the films of Hayao Miyazaki. Not sure how the show will be viewed with the current social distancing in effect, but it was nice to take my mind off things for a few hours and get back to traditional painting. This guy is one of my favorite characters from Miyazaki’s films. This is the last few days to check out my show at Antler Gallery. A few of these paintings were among the biggest pieces I’ve worked on, and I’m really happy with how they turned out. Painting is really time consuming and difficult sometimes, but there’s nothing quite like standing in front of one on a larger scale. For my show at Antler Gallery, I created this custom light box image. This was an idea I’d been thinking about for a while, making something inspired by vintage backlit bar signs. Instead of a beer brand label though, I wanted the text to be a more positive message. The painting was created digitally in photoshop for this one, and the wooden frame for the light box was hand built by me using crown molding.
