SANIWA [ YUME ]

“Midare? Do you have a minute?” Yume walked around the citadel to where the tantou was located. In her hands she held an old wooden box. “I found these bows and hair ties that my sister had gotten for me when I was younger. I never got to use them, so I was wondering if you wanted them”

          “I always have time for you, Aruji-san~” The tantou teases, walking towards the Saniwa when his name was called. Tilting his head in curiosity, Midare peeks into the box, and suffice to say, he’s pleasantly surprised. “These are so cute!” He exclaims, “I’m glad that you’d give them to me, but why aren’t you wearing them? I’m sure you’ll look even cuter with these adorning your hair since you’re already so cute!”

SANIWA [ JIN ]

花 — The familiar voice causes him to break from his task, hand stopping in their folding of various paper animals. It’s therapeutic for stress relief when Heshikiri Hasebe is nowhere to be found. His eyes finds Midare’s baby blues and he suddenly recalls the story he left them off with last time. 

“Mm, yes, I was planning on continuing the plot during our next session.” Jin looks to his calendar and realizes the date. “But Story Time is not until tomorrow, Midare Toushirou.” 

Could it be that the tantou children were interested in the tale he has woven after all? It’s a nice surprise considering that he was ad libbing as he went. He makes a mental note to remember the theme that kept their interests. 

“Perhaps I could interest you in a different activity for today,” his palm hold a folded paper crane, “Origami is a fun pastime as well.” 

          Now that he thinks about it, Jin did say something about when he’ll continue the story, didn’t he? Midare wasn’t really paying attention then, or maybe he just chose to let it slip from his mind due to his interest in the story itself. Either way, now he can’t wait for tomorrow to come soon. “Oh- Alright! Aa~ I can’t wait~~” 

          “Ooh, origami!” The tantou leans forward a little, inspecting the folded paper crane on Jin’s hands. He likes to do origami too, but only when he has enough patience to neatly fold the paper. Comparing his own results to Jin, he almost can’t believe how neat the Saniwa’s cranes were. “I can make cranes, but not as good as you!”

           Right, he just remembers something. “Aruji-san, didn’t they say that you can make your wish come true by folding a thousand cranes?” He turns his attention back at the Saniwa and continues, “Hmm~ I wonder what to wish for if I actually manage to fold a thousand cranes... What will you wish for, Aruji-san? World peace? More snacks?”

SANIWA [ KATSUGEKI ]

                       ❛  MIDARE…  YOU SURPRISED   me !!   ❜

      A laugh finds itself pouring thin lips as they turn to see the ever cheerful Tantou almost seeming to bounce over to them. A hand, ever gentle  &  carefully, lifts from their side  &  onto his head, a smile pulling further to their lips, almost similar to a full on grin, as their laugh dies down into a very soft giggle.

                       ❛  Good boy !!  I bet you did very well. I did miss you, I did !!   ❜

          A wide smile spreads across his features as a hand made its way upon his head, patting the blonde locks softly. He leans against the hand to urge more patting, in fact. He loves getting praises, after all! The tantou giggles along with Katsugeki, a hand placed upon his cheek in an act of cutesy.

          “Aww, I missed you too, Aruji-san~! And yeah! I was amazing! I can’t wait to tell you~ Are you busy?”

YAGEN

For some reason, Yagen couldn’t help but feel annoyed as he listened through every reason Midare gave as to why he had no usable gloves at the moment. Work gloves full of holes… fair enough, even if he has questions as to how bad a state they were in to be completely unusable. Mittens on the other hand… it just doesn’t sit well with him even if he tries to understand it. 

Regardless, the Toushirou went to his cabinets and searched through his items, before he dug out a pair of black mittens which he then took over to his sibling, holding them out to him. “I want you to have these mittens. Please ignore the ‘from Ichi-nii with love’ thats been knitted on them, and just know that I’m giving you these because want you to be ready for anything at any moment, without your blister pains getting in the way, Midare-kun.”

          Blue irises look down upon the mittens held out towards him, and he doesn’t even need to see the words knitted on them to know what they are. Of course, he has them too! Ichi-nii gave a pair to all of them! Midare immediately pouts, refusing to take the mittens.

          “Those are from Ichi-nii, right? I’m not gonna use them.” Arms fold across his chest. Gifts from their dear eldest brother shouldn’t be dirtied no matter the reason, is what he’s thinking. “I’ll go to Aruji-san later and ask for my work gloves to be replaced- until then I’m gonna borrow someone else’s work gloves.”

          “Gotou, Gotou! Listen to this, guess who’s getting sent for an expedition together? That’s right, us!!” Chipper, as usual, he didn’t even give Gotou time to think nor answer. Midare is just excited to be sent into various time periods. “I haven’t been in a lot of missions lately, so I can’t wait to depart! Let’s go get ready, Gotou!!” Arm links with the other’s, the shorter tantou pulls on his sibling lightly.

“Do you think they’ll be open at this hour?”

SENTENCE STARTERS || accepting!

          “W-well… They have to, right? I mean, if they don’t then where are we supposed to stay the night?” To think that the Saniwa would send them for an expedition so late at night? Even the town shows no signs of life at this hour, so they’ve been visiting a few inns, hoping that they’re still open so they don’t have to stay and camp outside.

          “Ah– hey, over there! That inn’s lanterns are still lit. That means they’re open, right?”

Yagen nods softly at Midare’s words as he bandaged up the other Toushirou’s hand as gently as possible, stopping at just two thin layers of bandages since that ought be enough protection for the hand while not rendering it too stiff or bulky. 

“No gloves? Not even work gloves or mittens?” He was expecting that his brother had his own set of gloves for practical or fashion reasons, but new things were learned everyday, he supposed. 

“You don’t necessarily have to wear gloves right now, since its mostly just to reduce the pain of your blistered hand when you use it. But if you really want them now, I can lend you a spare pair of mine, though they are made of leather, which might not be too comfortable for a blistered hand.”

          “Mm... My only work gloves are full of holes now, since I haven’t asked for a new one yet...” Midare watches as Yagen treats his blistered hands. Aw, and he was really proud of the maintenance he’s done to keep them pretty, too. Oh well, this is better than letting it grow worse.

          “Well... I have mittens, but I’m not using them to work in the fields! Or-- anywhere else where they might get dirty... Since Ichi-nii gave them to me...” Lips pressing against each other to form a thin line, his gaze doesn’t leave his bandaged hands. “I guess I’ll ask Aruji-san later for a replacement for my working gloves...”

SHINANO

         Singsong voice reverberates off the wooden floors and hits Shinano’s ears before the shorter toushiro’s hand taps their shoulder. They exhale, smile plastered across their features shortly after that as they turn to face him. A hand raises to tap their cheek with the tilt of a head- Oh this sibling seemed rather cheerful today. 

“ Ah! I’ve been helping the general’s right hand clean up messes. Man, I wish I could have done anything but that! ” A reply filled with energy Shinano didn’t know they had. 

( It was a little tiring, especially after they had to clean up ink stains from hardwood flooring. ) 

“ Whoever knew he could be so clumsy? I can certainly say I didn’t! How about you? What have you done today? ” 

          Good, at least he seems to have caught his sibling when they’re not busy. The shorter tantou tilts his head slightly, a certain word has caught his interest.“That? What did you do, Shinano?” There’s a slight concern in his tone, but seeing how Shinano doesn’t seem to be disturbed, it’s probably nothing serious.

          “Me? Well~ I helped out a bit in the kitchen, and then with laundry...” He begins counting his fingers, trying to recall what he’d done today, “Oh, and I helped bringing in the materials brought back by the expedition team!” He’s quite proud of his productivity, after all. Though it’s really just because he can’t stay still even when he’s told to.

          “Are you still busy, Shinano? Today’s snack is dango. Let’s eat them together if you’re free!”
