Ladies,
Whether you ship Kataang or not, you can not tell me you haven’t used the exact same or similar excuses Katara made in this scene when you were trying to let someone down easily.
Aang: Katara, did you really mean what you said in there?
Katara: In where? What are you talking about?
Aang: On stage, when you said I was just like a ... brother to you, and you didn't have feelings for me.
Katara: I didn't say that. An actor said that.
Aang: But it's true, isn't it? We kissed at the Invasion, and I thought we were gonna be together. But we're not.
Katara: Aang, I don't know.
Aang: Why don't you know?
Katara: Because, we're in the middle of a war, and, we have other things to worry about. This isn't the right time.
Aang: Well, when is the right time?
Katara: Aang, I'm sorry, but right now I'm just a little confused.
I swear this scene was written by men who were rejected so often with the same lines they started to take it seriously.
That scene and the complete lack of follow-up is the death of kataang. I’m sorry, but also... not.
I’m still here.
I teach, and this--last--year has been rough. I planned to write more over the holiday break, but mostly, I just slept (and ate) a lot.
I finally posted an update, and I’m excited about where this fic is headed next. Please join me for the crazy ride!

Love this!
Zutara Week 2020 Continuation: Reunion Part II
In case Tumblr can’t play the video here’s the Vimeo Link
I couldn’t help myself.
Shoutout to @crayolasaurus again and their Zutara - peace AMV (Tragically struck down by Viacom; if it’s still available in your country, LUCKY!) But it sparked this image in my head of a continuation of Zuko and Katara’s meeting in the Reunion animatic. It kept me up at night, honestly, so I had to make this! It takes place later in the day following the events of Reunion Part I. Katara is settling in at the palace as the Southern Water Tribe Ambassador and is taking some time to decompress out in a breezeway, and after he had returned to a long day of Fire Lord duties and state business, Zuko follows up with her there. Both stripped of artifice and defenses (he’s in casual wear, she’s without her water pouch)… and they are able to enjoy each other’s company finally… as old friends… and more.

OH MY GOD I AM DEAD. I AM SO DEAD. CAUSE OF DEATH? HEART FAILURE BECAUSE OF TOO MANY FEELINGS 💜💜💜💜
This gave me chills!
This fanfic I’m never going to write is really damn good.
I have so many stories stuck in my head! No clue how to get them all out.
All Bark and No Bite
I still contend that Zuko needs a pet, and I plan on updating both of my stories about how he gets Druk soon. (The Dragon and the Wolf is post-war world-building and Love Amongst the Turtleducks is a soon-to-be find Ursa fic.)
Meanwhile, I landed upon @botherkupo‘s little gem of a story, I Don’t Speak Meow Language, in which Katara is a cat, and Zuko adopts her.
Zuko is most definitely a cat person, imho.
Katara seems like more of a dog person, though.
And since Zuko is a Katara person, he could be a dog person, too.
Or he could just be a dog.
Enter: the premise for my newest fic, All Bark and No Bite.
Zuko has no idea how it happened.
One minute, he’s running from the Dai Li and cursing the upper ring for its apparent lack of darkened alleyways to aid in his escape. Of course he doesn’t know the lay of the land, yet. They only just arrived yesterday.
He is also cursing himself for not heeding his Uncle’s warning. He should have stayed to help set up the new tea shop instead of going around snooping.
Zuko, you never think these things through.
The Dai Li know the whereabouts of the Avatar’s bison. He heard them talking about it. If they hadn’t caught him eavesdropping, he might’ve learned where the Avatar and his friends are staying, too.
But now he is running through this spirits-forsaken city, cursing his own stupidity and praying to some unknown deity.
Why couldn’t I just let sleeping dogs lie?
He’s never been one to run and hide, but he can’t fight the Dai Li without his swords or outing himself as a firebender. Opportunity strikes, and Zuko ducks down a shadowy pathway lined with wooden crates. He’s too big to fit inside, but that doesn’t stop him from trying.
Somehow he squeezes in, and so he waits, panting. His senses heighten as the agents’ footsteps grow closer. He can smell their sweat, their earthiness. He can also smell soap from laundry hanging on the clotheslines overhead and someone, somewhere is cooking meat.
“Where did he go?” says Dai Li number one, a few steps away from Zuko’s hiding place.
He chokes down the growl rumbling in his throat and stifles the sudden urge to bite.
“I don’t know,” says number two, kicking Zuko’s crate. “The only thing here is this mangy mutt!”
At this, Zuko finally breaks. “"I am Zuko, son of Ursa and Fire Lord Ozai, prince of the Fire Nation and heir to the throne!”
He shouldn’t have said that. An array of possible repercussions flash in his mind, the worst of which is how Uncle will pay for this.
“Shut your yapping, stupid dog!”
Zuko cocks his head to the side. That was not the response he expected.
The Dai Li leave without explanation. Zuko plops his head down, too exhausted to wonder why his arms are so soft and… furry.
Second chapter is already up!

A Query
What other shows/series are Avatar fans enjoying? Looking for some suggestions of what to watch next.
You know, if they ended the AtLA series with everyone as just friends, it would be better. Katara was right to be confused about her feelings while fighting a war, and building stronger friendships post-war would’ve given these kids the support they needed in their respective leadership positions (held at ages 12-16, mind you). Except for Sukka, the romances in AtLA are confusing and plot-muddling, IMO. Let’s have the final balcony scene with everyone watching the sunset over the city, relishing what they accomplished and ready to take on whatever comes next through the bond of unbreakable friendship.
she worries about him
I could get on the zuki ship. Would also love to see these two spar sometime...
Zuko’s cat cafe
This was partially inspired by @itszukkatime‘s post on Zuko owning a bookstore that’s also a cat cafe, but I just wanted to draw the cat cafe
hope you like it, please reblog!
My official new hc.
Liking fic rec posts in order to save them and look at them later seemed like a good idea until I go through my likes and it's just like every single Zutara post for the last 6 months and I can't find the posts I meant to go back to
This is me.

Katara is the best nurse and also the worst patient! Can you imagine if the tables were turned?
Okay, I got some ATLA beef:
How TF did Aang and the Gaang manage to sneak into all these different Earth Kingdom and Fire Nation Kingdoms without being recognized?
Especially Fire Nation.
And I wonder this because of their . . .
EYES.
Across ATLA (and usually in LOK), Air Nomads have gray eyes, Fire Nation have amber/hazel, Water Tribe have blue eyes, and Earth Kingdom have green eyes.
If frickin' Wang Fire rolled up with his blue eyes and I'm Fire Nation, I'd be like... this ain't right.
There's not exactly a lot of genetic diversity or inter-nation blending at this point.
(Yes I know it's a show and these things happened for dramatic effect. This beef is with the totally oblivious characters themselves and FOR FUN.
Ol' Piandao knows Sokka's origin nation by Sokka's name alone, but if he'd turned around he wouldn't have even needed that.)
I've always headcanoned that kids who had features...just...a bit...odd...are just not spoken about.
Like that girl with with the grey eyes who hangs around Azula, everyone knows where those eyes came from but they aren't going to say anything.
All those kids in the Earth Kingdom with hazel eyes or who run just a bit too hot are whispered about in secret but no one would dare say something to their faces.
The Island of Kyoshi wears blue and some have bright blue eyes but its not spoken about why.
Everyone knows, but one one talks about those kids who look just a bit different, because after 100 years of war? Well they are just a bit more common now and days.
I was especially confused at how Wang Fire passed as “Kuzon’s” dad in The Headband Except... For this kid...
Not sure if those eyes are blue, green or gray. And a lot of the Fire Nation kids from this episode have gray-ish (like Ty Lee) or brown eyes. Just got me thinkin...
