The Very First Review: Sassy Go Go or Cheer Up! SPOILERS AHEAD!!!
Alright so this morning, as I lie in bed at 3 AM, I finally finished Sassy Go Go, which I had put off for ages.
So basically I’m going to rate all of the things I watch on 5 things.
1. Basic Story line (0-10pts)
2. Character Development (0-10pts)
4. Cliffhangers (0-10pts)
5. Cliches (negative points). (0-10pts)
Without further a do! TURN BACK NOW IF YOU DON’T WANT TO BE SPOILED!
1. Storyline: I enjoyed the storyline. I feel bad for anyone that is easily triggered by blood or suicide undertones. If that is you THIS IS NOT THE DRAMA FOR YOU. You will be triggered easily. Other than that, the story was entertaining and easy to relate to.Â
2. Characters: Alright so I’m only doing main characters.
Characters I think developed well:
-Kang Yeon Doo: She opened herself up to accept the members of Baek Ho. She became president of the two teams. She even accepted Kwon So Ah’s stupid butt after she not only slapped her, pushed her down stairs, threatened her multiple times, and pretended to be her friend. She in my opinion, grew to be a really strong and dependable character!
-Kim Yeol: I feel like he liked Yeon Doo from the beginning, At first I couldn’t stand him for causing trouble. He seemed like a pain in the ass and I really didn’t like him because he caused Real King (Yeon Doo’s dance club) to be shut down, but slowly, I grew to like him because of his crush on Yeon Doo.
-Ha Dong Jae: Cute little cutie with problems with personal space and touching others. He was super cute and overcame his fears in the end. He even tried to befriend Kwan Soo Ah, which I find pretty nice of him, because she was a total douche to him.Â
-Seo Ha Joon: THIS POOR BABY. With his abusive dad and quiet personality, his abuse goes unnoticed. He also cuts himself to the point of almost bleeding out, but later redeems himself, which I will talk about in the Ending section. He grew quite a bit in the drama.
-Kwan Soo Ah. Okay so most of the drama consisted of her being a TOTAL BITCH. From the first episode I knew she was going to be a pain in the ass. I don’t know why, but I knew it right off. Even as the show progressed and we got closer and closer to the end of the drama I never really started liking her. I mean I was okay with her when she returned after her suicide attempt. I still didn’t like the fact that everyone accepted her like she was their new best friend. If that had been me in Yeon Doo’s place I would NOT have been so chummy with her so fast. It was really frustrating to see that.Â
I give the character development a 8 out of 10. I loved watching everyone grow and change!
Surprisingly I liked the way it ended. All conflicts were resolved and even though they didn’t win the final competition, (they sucked compared to the other teams LOL) it really seemed like they had a good time and thats what its all about. Even Ha Joon was able to compete despite his father telling him not to, which made me super happy. I was kind of dissapointed that Yeon Doo’s mother and Kim Yeol’s father didn't get married. I really liked them as a couple, and I liked the idea of them as a family more than I liked the idea of Kim Yeol and Yeon Doo as boyfriend and girlfriend. But thats the way the cookie crumbled. And boy did it crumble.Â
I give the ending a 8 out of 10. It was a pretty creative end to have flashbacks and show that even though they lost and the cheer-leading team was abolished, everyone remained friends.Â
This section exists purely for me to be bitter about the lack of cliffhangers or if there was too big of a cliffhanger. The cliffhangers for this drama were not really cliffhangers and kind of left you on one of those ‘you don’t need to watch the next episode to guess what will happen’ kind of things. They weren’t bad, but the outcomes in the next episode were pretty predictable. I think a good cliffhanger will leave you on the edge of your seat, ready to scream because the next episode hasn’t been released yet, and this drama did not leave me like that at all.
I give the cliffhangers a 4 out of 10.Â
Even Seasoned Kdrama addicts know that cliches are very common within the kdrama world. Whether its that kiss that every action is obviously leading up to, or the fact that someone is going to fall or fart or something, cliches are pretty annoying. As for this drama, the cliches were not very cliche. While it was annoying that Yeon Doo’s plans always had obvious outcomes (her getting busted kissing Kim Yeol was just stupid), or even worse, that secretly Kwan Soo Ah was obviously going to stab Yeon Doo in the back, these were a little less obvious than a normal drama may have made them. Also what was up with all of those atypical cheerleading moves? Like those are cheerleading moves you would see from a group of 6 or 7 year olds. I think they should have had WAY more high school oriented moves. Just to seem more realistic. Also Kwan Soo Ah’s mother, oh my god, don’t even get me started on her. Kwan Soo Ah was a typical spoiled brat who panicked and threw tantrums when she didn’t get her way and relied on her mother for everything, and that was super gross. ALSO WHAT WAS UP WITH HER SENDING HER MOM VIDEOS AND SAYING CHEER UP WHEN HER MOM HAD CAUSED SO MANY PROBLEMS. Maybe it’s just the fact that I dislike drama, but I would NOT have had anything to do with my mom after that. We would have had to cut ties. Sorry lol.Â
ANYWAY. I’m going to have to give the cliches a -7 out of -10. They were bad, but not the worst I’ve seen.Â
Bonus points will be awarded for things I just really loved. Or points will be taken away for thing I didn’t really like.Â
+1 for Kwan Soo Ah getting roughed up for leaving Yeon Doo behind.
+2 for super cool teachers.
+3 for the principal getting fired, Ha Joon’s dad getting a restraining order filed against him, and Soo Ah’s mom getting investigated by the board of education.Â
+1 for people overcoming their fears.
+1 for everyone staying friends.
+1 for the return of Real King (at the end of course).
-1 for those terrible cheerleading moves.
+3 for music I really liked.Â
