“Yes. Will I see you at Harlee’s party?”
“Maybe.”

“… You done?”
Keagan’s gun went off, bullet lodging in the dirt beside his knee. “Cut the tough guy act, fuckface. Who you belong to?”

Alaska was flat on her back, her mind working over time to figure out what she was feeling as well as what had just happened. Looking up, she could see the unfamiliar person in front of her. She tried sitting up, and got about halfway before she cut herself short as she heard the female’s words.
“I thought I was just going to grab a hoodie and go!” she defended, cradling her face. “It was just a….. a box! A box of clothes there, it was in the open, I……” Aly stammered, feeling sick.
“Th’fuck you punch me for, then?” Keagan huffed out a disbelieving laugh, shaking her head. “You’ve got a shit innocent act. That box ain’t just fuckin’ clothes and it ain’t yours. So, try again and if you fuckin’ lie, you’re dead.”

Queenie scoffed, rolling her eyes as she aimed them on the corpse. “ Sounds a like a real piece of work. A fuckin’ stupid one, at that. ” She angled her head toward it, motioning to Keagan that she was going to take care of the body. She began moving toward him, squinting at Keagan when she mentioned he’d landed a blow.
“ Well, now the fucker’s gotta a bullet in ‘im. What ya fuckin’ get being a peeping coward. ” The last sentence was quieter, more of a muttering to herself. “ ‘Least it was you and not one of the young ones. ” The edge of her mouth bent up slightly, “ Plus, fighting looks good on ya. ” She punctuated her compliment with a wink, chuckling softly. Then they reached the body and Queenie stopped, dropping into a crouching position to get a look at his face, but mostly to make sure he was dead. And if not? Well, he was about to be in a lot of pain if he wasn’t.
A half laugh, half scoff met Queenie’s compliment, Keagan shaking her head as the blonde moved to take care of the body. There was a moment’s reluctance before the Rag Doll leader found herself trailing her, eventually catching up so that they walked side by side. She kept herself from reaching out to keep Queenie from crouching to inspect the body, protectiveness still carrying over despite the switch in allegiances. Instead, she held her gun a little tighter, ready to shoot if there was even the slightest of movement.
There was none, the man as dead as a man could get, the dirt greedily guzzling up the blood that was pooling beneath him. “Guess we better bury the body-- unless you wanna take him back with you.”

“’Cause from behind you looked like somebody else.” Kolton put his hand up, fingers stretched towards her. “Help me up.”
“Shit excuse.” Keagan looked at the outstretched hand and then took a deliberate step back, pulling her gun out. “No, I’m good.”
“You fuckin’ touch me again, you’re dead. I shoot you. Bang bang. You die. You get all that? Or y’need a warning?” She aimed her gun at his knee, waiting very impatiently for his answer.

“Cool.”
“Oh, and you don’t have to linger if you don’t want to. I know you’re a busy girl. I won’t keep you.”
“Got it.” Keagan stood up, grabbing her things. “You sure you’re good?”
koltblood
“Not that,” Kolton grunted, putting a hand to his eye. It came away free of blood, but that didn’t mean it wasn’t going to swell up and look nasty all the same.
“Well, now you know.”
“Th’fuck you come at me for?”

Bruises still decorated Queenie’s skin, the most prominent on her cheekbones, though she’d covered it with a bit of makeup, and a lip that was split and still healing. She’d spent hour upon hour doing whatever she could to bury the emotions that always threatened to spill forth. She didn’t know what would happen if she did; she’d never let anything out before. Eve dying. Eve. Even her name popping into her mind caused Q’s mouth to turn acidic and dry, her stomach heaving in warning. You’re getting a little too close now, aren’t you? And so moments like this, moments where she could bask in the glory of a fellow (ex-fellow now) Doll point a gun at a man, well, she soaked it in. A reality she was more comfortable with, where she had control, or at least the control was where she wanted it to be.
She laughed when he ran; it still made her giddy every time. Something about a grown man running from a girl. Oh, the shame. She was still smiling when she answered Keagan’s question, “Nah. Hunting.” She tapped the rifle on her back, her attention drifting back toward the man as he began to slow. Clearly, he needed to get in better shape.
You want to do the honors?
Q didn’t hesitate, not for a second, the rifle swung off her back in an instant, cocking it back as she set her sights on the target. There was no reason to answer. Of-fucking-course she did. In three… two… and he was down, the loud crack of the bullet splitting the air. It shouldn’t have been so easy for her… but now she couldn’t remember a time when it wasn’t. She couldn’t even remember a time when it didn’t feel good, like it did just then; the tingle of adrenaline, the power. And the blood. It was the closest thing she got to sex without actually having it. It was the beast she tried to keep hidden through hunting. It was the reason she distanced herself. It’s easier to be a shit when you don’t give a fuck about anyone.
She stood there and just watched him for a few moments, even though there was nothing to see but a body on the ground and the blood that began to pool around his torso. Finally, she turned to Keagan, hiking the rifle back over her shoulder, “ The fuck he doing around the Church anyway? The girls alright? ” Her tone wasn’t accusatory, but protective, territorial, habit. She’d been a Doll all her life, and even after months at the Lab, nothing felt the same. Nothing felt right.
Keagan let Q do her thing, holstering her gun. “Girls are fine. Looked like he was spyin’ but when I asked him what gang he was part of he couldn’t name anythin’. Then he tried to fight me.” If he’d been part of another gang, she’d have beat the shit out of him and then returned him to where he’d come from, warn the rest of them that spying on her girls was never allowed. Seeing as how his origins remained a mystery, the leader couldn’t risk the chance of the church’s location fall into Government hands.
“Fuckin’ hit me.” She pointed at her mouth, the blood at the corner. “Got a ring on ‘im.”

“Yeah, I think it’s all there.” Shani closed the file and slipped it into her bag so she could take it back to the store and study it further. “Thanks for putting me in touch with that guy. We make a good team.”
“We’re okay.”
“No problem, needed to call in a few favors any way.”

“Like.. a husband? Kids?”
“25. Old enough. Most people are.. surprised. I have a young face. And, my birthday is coming up. The 27th. You?”
“More my sisters. No kids, yet. Engaged, remember?”
“Older than me...surprising.”

Queenie stuck her thumb and middle finger between her lips, whistling loudly in approval at her ex-leader. She’d know Keagan’s voice anywhere, and what was going to be some failed attempt at an awkward apology, instead turned into Q getting to witness her beat the crap out of someone – coincidentally one of her favorite activities. Much more so than awkward non-apologies.
She strolled up next to Keagan, grinning unabashedly at the poor sucker who met the Doll’s fist. “ Might wanna fuck off. Some of us girls get a little trigger happy. ”
“Hey, girl.” Keagan spared Queenie a cursory glance and then pulled her gun from the holster when she noticed the man’s eyes straying towards the blonde. “Nuhuh. Eyes over here, shit-for-brains. Let’s play a game.” She pulled the hammer back with her thumb then aimed it at him. “You run...I shoot. If I run out of bullets and you’re still standing...you win. I’ll give you a few seconds.” She stared at the older man who stared back up at her bewildered, face reddened by anger or embarrassment, she didn’t care either way. “one....two...”
He ran.
Keagan turned to Queenie, lowering her gun as she listened to the man’s panicked footfalls.
“One of the girls tell you I was out here?” The blonde seemed to be looking better, at the very least. Keagan had worried about her since the last time she’d seen her, wanting to call her up but not really knowing what to say to the girl to make it okay. The truth was that Eve’s death wasn’t okay. Nothing about it seemed right. She looked over to see the back of the man as he got further in further away. “You want to do the honors? He’s seen the church...so...” Dead man running.
She licked the blood from the corner of her mouth, already feeling a bruise forming. “You get back up, y’get another busted fuckin’ eye.”
“The fuck you thought was gonna happen?” Keagan’s gun was concealed but ready to be drawn at any given moment. Anger flashed across her face, subdued by her knuckles smarting from slamming her fist into the person’s face, but that didn’t mean she wouldn’t do it again.

When the suitcase opened, Shani stretched a hand forward to open the two grey manila folders it held, but the bald man snatched the briefcase backwards, out of her reach. “Don’t be rude,” Shani scolded him, a stern look on her face. “You could’ve put smoothie recipes in there for all I know. I want to see what I’m paying for.”
The two men exchanged a quick glance, and then the bald man said, “Then show us that you mean to pay.”
This, she thought, was fair. Reaching into her purse, she pulled out a sheer, softly clinking jewelry pouch; the five gold coins it contained were easily visible through the fabric. The bald man slid the case back into her reach and let her take the files out, briefly leafing through the pair of them to make sure that everything inside looked authentic. “Thank you,” she said after a moment, dropping her little pouch into the empty briefcase. And with that, the men were gone, out the door as quick as they’d arrived, melting into the crowd on the street outside. Sighing, Shani handed Keagan one of the folders, keeping the other for herself. “Here’s yours,” she said, while opening her own to have a closer look at it. “I hope it’s the one you needed.”
“Yup. All here.” Keagan leafed through it quickly then tucked it away in the backpack she’d brought along. She was ready to go back to the church, tell the rest of the Dolls what her plans were for them, whether they’d want to go along with it would be up to them. She looked to Shani. “You?”

“I.. don’t really know. I’ve only ever been at my house. I guess.. I’d just like to be anywhere but there. A place of my own. Even if it’s still here.”
“Probably.. somewhere in the Mountains, hidden and quaint. Something cozy. I never needed that big fancy house. It’s silly, really. What about you? Where would you go?
“A place far, far away from the city.”
“I’d take my family with me, though. How old are you?”
rosaliestorm
“We can’t help the family we’re born into, I guess. He didn’t stop my Mom from leaving, and he wouldn’t..” She paused, the thought beginning to weigh in that she was expendable, “It doesn’t matter. I’d escape. I’m small and I could weasel out.” Lie - but, it sounded better than the truth.
“Smart move, but...where exactly would you go?”
“If you could escape anywhere?”
shanidevx
“Right; sorry.” Shani plastered a mildly irritated look on her face, because that was the best remedy she knew for not looking nervous. The two men stopped at the end of the table, towering down at them. Shani didn’t flinch.
“Let’s make this quick,” she said, tossing her hair over her shoulder. The best way to confidence was to fake it ‘till you made it. Normally, Shani was as confident as they came, but not in situations like this. Not in situations where she could be easily overpowered. “Show us the files and we’ll show you the money.”
Keagan’s amusement showed for only a moment and then it was replaced by mild disinterest when regarding the two men that approached their table. She gave a calm smile of greeting that didn’t touch her eyes. Two men, both similar in stature, broad shouldered but their legs looked disproportional like they’d only wanted the thick arms and not the full package. The darker haired one-- the one Keagan had made the arrangements with, was Carlson and he propped the briefcase up on the table.
“Subtle.” Keagan commented dryly, watching the code he lined up to open it.
