one last proof of how much work it is to get the right shot would be the show "Arrested Development." This show has so many cut-away's it seems as often as Family Guy. I can't imagine how much time it takes to film one of their 3 second cutaways and how long that must take for them to rehearse and make it look like the perfect shot.

This is a clip from my short film, "Envelope." I wanted to show my skills in cinematography with this scene my doing some very smooth and connective cuts. It was really fun to film this, but is sure can be awkward asking someone to do yoga in a cemetery.

A show that I found incredibly remarkable in a symbolic way is the Netflix original "Bojack Horseman." The theme song is incredibly well done by giving us a 60 second rundown of his life and personality, all by changing the background behind him. It's also genuinely comical, but definitely NSFW

Right now we're learning about how motion picture is all about the shot. There can be so much meaning in a 3 second shot that can symbolize many things throughout the movie. I took a shot from one of my favorite movies, "The Dark Knight." This one is a great shot of Heath ledger in light of a dark room. This shows that there's always a dark side and so many secrets

This film did an incredible accomplishment. This 90 minute film takes us through a historic progression through one of the worlds biggest museum in Russia. It is done in one continuous shot with no breaks at all. They literally only had one morning to film this and the camera-man literally fainted from exhaustion after the take. I honestly think it's quite a boring film, but it's an incredible accomplishment.

Since i love the long take so much, one of my favorites is in the movie "Goodfellas." If you never caught that in the movie, it happens when Ray Liotta takes his date into the restaurant through the back-door and through the kitchen. It lasts about 4 minutes and it probably took a lot of rehearsal.

When we talk about motion pictures, one of my favorite accomplishments is a long continuous shot. I look for them in all of the Tarantino and Scorsese films. This film in particular, Birdman, Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu makes the movie seem like one continuous shot. He's apparently known for this technique and the actors really had to focus because their takes would last up to 30 pages of lines.

When it comes to motion pictures, i could probably go on for 12 hours at a time. My all time favorite movie is "Kill Bill." I have a weird obsession with Mr. Tarantino and I find that my favorite film of his is this one. It goes through all different kinds of film styles while keeping an incredibly interesting story afloat. I love and cherish this movie so much.

When it comes to visual structure, I couldn't let the movie "Spirited Away" out of my mind. What an amazing film with such beautiful visuals. There's honestly no way that anyone can not enjoy this movie because its so easy and resting on the eyes. What an incredible film that's really enjoyable to all ages.

One of the three fundamental building blocks of visual structure is sound. Hitchcock really has an interesting and serious opinion on dialogue in his films. He's been know to consider actors more of a tool in the filming process, but he really shows that off in this quote about dialogue.

Image structure is such an important thing to know when it comes to the world of art. This little message I found made a lot of sense and some very simple questions to ask yourself when creating an original piece of artwork.

This technique of photography is called high-key lighting. This means that a lot of light is exposed on the subject and the white balance is almost over-exposed. I don't really know why I find the extreme lighting so beautiful, but it just always catches my interest.

In photography, there are million of techniques that photographers must learn to be good at what they do. This one is called an "Extreme Close-up" which means exactly how it sounds. It's extremely close-up to the subject, this one just happens to be an eagle.

This cartooning technique is called "flip-book." This one is especially mesmerizing because it causes our brains to make a connection with the pictures and their way of showing movement. This technique has been around for almost 200 years now and was originally how animation was done before we had computers.

This week we discussed cartooning techniques. One technique that I always find so fascinating is 3-D design. I've learned just how long it takes to create something like a 3-D cartoon and it completely blows my mind. You literally have to animate and detail every single aspect of the cartoon to make it appear 3-D. And, just the technology alone to create it is super expensive. For those of you who make 3-D design, you have my respect and sympathy.

I did a photojournalism class last semester and I really enjoyed everything I did. This photo is from my personal library. This is right after Bikini's Sports Bar and Grill burned down last spring. I jumped on that story for an extra credit assignment and it was quite a spontaneous journey. I literally hopped the fence and walked around the rubble of the burned down building. I got some great pictures and also got an interview with 2 of the waitresses who were there.

This week we discussed famous photojournalists. I decided to choose one of my favorite historical photos and found that Alfred Eisenbach was the man behind the camera in the photo. This photographer took this photo August 14, 1945 and worked in the field so long, he even got a picture of president Bill Clinton. that's almost 50 years later.
