rose laughs loudly, looking back at her lovers in bed. she is standing naked in the room, brushing through her hair. she’d been growing it long. dutch knowing she was a woman made things a lot easier. she looks back at lyra, continuing their conversation as dutch rested.
“YOU DID NOT TELL HER THAT! I BET SHE WAS ABSOLUTELY MISERABLE THE ENTIRE DAY. YOU ALWAYS WERE GOOD AT DRESSING PEOPLE DOWN, LYRA.” rosie crawls on the bed again, over to lyra. she leans in and kisses her with a hum.
“GOOD AT DRESSING ME DOWN TOO,” she mumbles before pulling back to rest on dutch’s chest.
she glances up when he speaks, fingers ghosting along his broad chest. “WHAT CAN I SAY? LYRA HAS THE MOST AMAZING STORIES. SOMETIMES WISH WE COULD TAKE HER WITH US.”
lyra pulls her knees to her chest as she sits next to dutch, watching rosie brush through her hair. if anyone made her feel like she needed to cut her hair again, the brothel girl would have to have words with them. “oh, she was. the pout on her could make it rain even on the sunniest day,” she laughs, kissing the other woman back. oh, how she loves that smile.
she joins rosie in curling up beside dutch, also tracing invisible designs across his chest. he’s warm and steady beneath her, and she melts for him. “truly, you two have the more interesting stories,” she replies, reaching over to lightly pinch the other woman’s hand. “ugh. i wish i could sail with you too, rosie. maybe one day i’ll just up and stowaway on the boneheart so you two have no choice but to take me.” it’s half a joke, half serious. “your turn. you tell me about one of your adventures now.”
Dutch glances at where Rose is standing, watching her hair shift and shine as the brush pulls through it. One hand rests against Lyra’s back, fingers splaying to take in her soft skin, so very different from the callouses on his palm. Frankly, he could listen to them forever, just drift off to the sound of them talking. He’d done so more than once.
Rose returns to the bed, and the women curl up around him in a way that makes him swallow a little harder than usual. Stupid, really, getting flustered at his age. He pulls them in closer, sighing quietly at the comforting weight of their bodies. “She really does,” he murmurs, rolling his head over and placing a kiss on Lyra’s forehead. In fact, bringing her with them is something he’s thought about often in recent months. But he always finds a reason to talk himself out of it; her safety being the main one. “Ours is the ideal ship to stow away on,” he adds, head rolling back into place as he smiles. “There’s some good nooks and crannies. I’m sure Rose could show you the best ones.”
An adventure? And one they hadn’t shared. “Hmmm....” Dutch’s lips purse thoughtfully. “I suppose we could tell her about the Spanish galleon we just sank. Would that count as an adventure?” He glances at Rose, eye twinkling.
