Check out the story about Made Fresh Daily & its start to recovery after Hurricane Sandy.
I use to sit inside this shop and dream about starting my own business with a group of buddies of mine. I dreamed of having my own hardware store, making my own hours and seeing my business grow because of my own hard work.
When I was 21, I opened my hardware store in Blytheville, AR. I was married and had a son that I was raising on top of running a business. There were so many challenging days but now that I look back I can say, “How did I manage to do all that I did?!” Hard work is accomplishing things that sometimes just seem impossible.
I sold the business 10 years ago and finally retired. This picture was the start of a journey for me. It may have been a “dream” as I stared out of this window but I went after my goals even when they seemed out of reach at the time. Sure, things have changed and we live in a fast paced environment but no matter what, nothing changes the fact that you can always go after what you want.

Small Businesses Tepid on Social Media, Prefer WOM and Advertising
Only one-third (35%) of small business owners cite social media as a beneficial tactic for their business, though views about the usefulness of social marketing vary by industry, according to a survey from Hiscox.
Among surveyed small business owners, tactics such as word-of-mouth referrals (79%) and advertising (44%) rank ahead of social media in overall business benefit.

A classic New York shirt now has a new twist. Artist Sebastian Errazuriz has redesigned this iconic shirt to have all proceeds help with the Sandy relief effort.
The story behind the art: Errazuriz's studio was paralyzed after the hurricane. Unable to work and tired of watching the horrible disaster unfold on the news, Errazuriz decided to design something to help raise much-needed relief funds. This idea occurred to him after seeing the water line marked on the walls of the flooded galleries in New York's Chelsea art district.
