Isabelle looked at the dog, a little scared at first but as it jumped up on her and licked her face she laughed. “Is it a little boy?” She placed a hand on his head, petting him lightly. “He’s so adorable!” She grinned. She hadn’t expected to fall in love so quickly. The little puppy wagged it’s tail, looking up at her.

Dawn smiled, happy to see Isabelle connecting with the puppy. "Yep, a month and three weeks little boy. He and his sisters came here two weeks ago. We've been taking care of them ever since." Dawn petted his head, looking up at Isabelle. "Do you think that he'll be a good choice for you? He already seems to like you."

  Jane could spend hours with the animals at the shelter, and since the dating scene wasn’t high on her list of things to do, that’s what she did. Hearing footsteps, she didn’t bother to turn and see who’s they were until the puppy made it way towards the body. She grinned seeing a miny her make it’s way across the open area. 

"Cerberus will always take the prize for the most ferocious, but he’s also the biggest baby if you ask me, an over sized teddy bear." She smiled at her comparison before picking up the toy that was now far from the puppies attention. "Did you get all your homework done?"

"Indeed he is," Dawn agreed, smiling at Jane. The puppy noticed Jane picking up the toy and became alert, bracing herself for the girl to throw it. Dawn just rolled her eyes, but in a good natured way. "Yes, mother, I finished up my homework. Do I get a cookie for completing it?"

  Kellan slid his hand into the puppet, and he bounced to life, suddenly animated as he looked around. “I’m Clopin,” the puppet offered his hand, tilting his head as he looked at the girl, “Are you the one who wanted a story?” It was the puppet talking, not Kellan, the man had always been a ventriloquist, and he just smiled as the little jester did his thing.

Dawn smiled a little and shook Clopin's hand. "Nice to meet you, I'm Dawn. Yes, I am." Dawn sat back a little against the bench, ready to hear the puppet man's tale.

  "Of course," he glanced at the spot next to him, looking at the puppet afterwards. "I’m afraid Clopin doesn’t have any stories to act in on his own," he offered her an apologetic smile, "Though he could tell you one, if you’d like, Miss Potter?"

She took the seat, turning her body so that she was facing him. She smiled and nodded. "I would love to hear a story from Clopin."

  "I’ll need a few moments to think, but I’m sure I can find a story to tell you." He drummed the fingers of his free hand against his thigh, looking at the puppet and wondering what stories he could be a star in. Clopin, the jester, was usually just a supporting character, if he ever got used, despite being on of his favorites. "Kellan Conteur, at your service," he bowed his head slightly, "And you are?"

"Alright," the brunette said, not going to tell him that she has a small impatient tendency. She pointed at the empty spot next to him. "May I?" She gives him a small nod. "Nice to meet you, Kellan. I'm Dawn Potter."

  "I haven’t decided just yet," Kellan looked up, appraising the girl who stood before him, "Don’t have a feel for what kind of story my audience needs." Nor did he have an audience at the moment. Or his makeshift stage. Or any other puppets or props. But the little jester he had in his hands was ready to tell a story, when he was next needed, which was his main point. "Why, would you like to hear one?" he smiled slightly. A story could always be arranged.

"I would love to," Dawn said. She loved when she was a kid and when her father would tell her and Jane stories about adventure. Storytime with father and Jane were most cherished, she loved them with all of her heart. "But, I would like to know your name, storyteller."

Storytime || Kellan and Dawn

Kellan sat in the park, a broken puppet in hand. One of the toddlers at the Court of Miracles had gotten his hands on the doll, resulting in a maimed puppet and a less than happy puppeteer. He’d forgiven the child, of course, a three year old wouldn’t know better, but he’d still found himself in town that afternoon, wanting to get away from the kids so he wouldn’t snap at them. Kellan was very good with kids, but he was a bit possessive when it came to the tool of his trade, and he’d rather avoid scaring innocent children when possible.

He’d been fiddling with the doll for over an hour, reattaching eyes and sewing its clothing back together with a long needle, biting his lip in concentration. Kellan hardly noticed the world go by when he got to working, and he didn’t feel the stares he received, a grown man hunched over a little doll. Finally, he picked it up again, slipping his hand into the puppet, moving it around in the air to make sure it was firmly together. It was.

A slow smile crept over Kellan’s features, and he met the puppet’s eyes, “It’s storytime, my friend,” he told it, not aware of someone watching him until their shadow interfered with his sunlight. Kellan looked up, one brow rising as he appraised the stranger, “Can I help you?”

Now there's a sight you don't see everyday, a grown man fixing up a puppet. Dawn had just been reading a book on skunks when she noticed the man sitting across the street from her, putting the little puppet back together. She grew curious and wanted to know why the puppet was so important to him. 

She got up from her seat and walked over to the man and the puppet. Her eyebrow raised when she heard the man talk to the puppet. So, he's wanting to tell a story, eh? Well, that sounds interesting. When she stopped near the man and the puppet, she crossed her arms and gave him a smile. "A story, you say? I'm intrigued. What kind of story are you wanting to tell with your little friend?"

Take Me Home/The Potter Sisters

Jane sighed happily to herself as she let her body relax after cleaning out all the kennels for the dogs. Pushing back a few loose pieces of hair she let her arms fold out in front of her on the desk, and her head follow in a pile of limp, restless body. A soft whimper rang out as her head jolted up with a small frown. Her heart always had the softest spot for any animal in need, and her curiosity always pushed her to find out what was the cause for almost anything. 

Pushing her body off the chair she made her way down the hallway where the soft whimper was leaving a kennel. Her eyes light pu as she saw a small puppy running around playing with a ball all by himself. “Well someone needs to get out and play, huh?” Grinning she pulled out the set of keys from her back pocket as she unlocked the area and let the little guy run out freely. “Come on, there’s a field right out back little one. ” Laughing softly she started to lead the way as the puppy stumble behind her. Upon reaching the open stretch of grass, Jane took the ball and tossed it over and over again. She really didn’t notice anyways around till she watched the puppy run off track, her eyes following till they landed on someone. “Shes harmless, promise. ” Jane giggled as the puppy dropped the ball at the person’s feet, wanting nothing more then to play.

Dawn finished her homework and thought that taking a walk would be good. She just letted her feet take her wherever they wanted to go, not minding it when she finally stopped at the location where she absentmindedly walked to. The brunette smiled and walked inside, deciding to pay her sister a visit. She didn't find her inside the building, but she then began to follow the barking that was coming from the backyard.

She got outside and smiled when she saw Jane and the pup playing with each other. She continued to watch for awhile until the puppy noticed her and ran to her. Dawn smiled and got onto her knees, scratching the dog behind the ear as she smiled at her sister. "You sure, Janey? She could be more ferocious than Cerberus," she said in a teasing voice.

  "I didn’t know you worked here," She said with a smile. I was coming because I’d like a dog. I heard they’re good for anxiety." She pulled a page out of her purse and laid it on the table. "These are the breeds that I heard were best. But if you don’t have any…. then thats fine."

She paused. “I also heard that getting a puppy is best since they bond with you easier. By the way if any of these facts are false feel free to correct me. I’m kinda clueless when it comes to animals.”

"Yep, been here for awhile." Dawn listened and she nodded. "That is all very true. I'm pleased with your research," she said with a smile. She looked at the list, analyzing which dog would be good for her. "Alright... It is best to get a puppy because they do bond a whole lot faster. Luckily, we do have some puppies. Golden retrievers, in fact. Here, I'll go and get one."

Dawn then went into the back and carefully picked one of the pups up, whispering to him softly, "It's OK, boy. You'll be OK. You're going to get to meet someone." She came back out, smiling and holding the puppy. "Does he suit your fancy, Isabelle?" The puppy began to wag his tail when he say the other girl, barking happily.

Isabelle walked towards the animal shelter. She had a specific purpose in mind. Find the perfect pet. She’d read online that dogs were very helpful with anxiety and she needed all the help she could get. She’d printed out the page with the best breeds listed as well as other helpful information. But still she didn’t feel prepared. Was she really ready to do this? Was she ready to become a full time parent of a dog? She took a deep breath and hesitated at the door. She could do it. She repeated in her head. She wasn’t a coward and most certainly wasn’t going to back down. Not when she was this close. 

And who’s say there will even be the dog she wanted? Maybe she’ll have to wait? This is probably just the first step. She could take the first step. She closed her eyes, took a deep breath once more and opened the door. 

It was bright. She could hear the barking and meowing of the pets inside. She almost walked out but before she did she saw a familiar face.

"Dawn?"

When Dawn had arrived that morning, she knew that it was going to be a busy day. Clean the kennels, feed the animals, wash and groom them, do checkup, make sure that the golden retrievers were doing okay, so many things to do on her list. The petite brunette was doing a checkup on a orange tabby cat that had came in two days ago when she heard a familiar voice. 

She looked up and smiled at Isabelle. "Hey! One second." She finished the cat's checkup before putting it back in its kennel, giving the cat a cat toy to play with. She took off the disposable vinyl gloves that she was wearing and throw them away, walking to her friend. "Hey, sorry it took awhile. What can I do for ya?"

Mr.Marty || Beck and Dawn

Beck was laying in the grass, she’d gone out for ice cream and after sharing with Marty, she was laying with him in the expanse of the park. A small stream bubbled over rocks a short dance away. The rusty colored fox was laying across her stomach with his face nuzzled against her neck. However all of a sudden the fox jumped up and ran off.

"Marty!" She sat up, watching the fox run off towards someone else. He dropped to the ground and rolled over look up, tail wagging at the other person.

"He wants you to pet him." She laughed, as she walked over to retrieve her furry friend.

"Well, aren't you a cutie!" Dawn laughed as she got onto her knees, petting the little fox. She had been drawing a picture of a squirrel when Marty shown up. Dawn recognized him and smiled at his human friend. "I swear, Beck. You literally have one of the cutest animal friends in Storybrooke."

Picking Pockets || Francis and Dawn

"Gah!" Francis grasped his shirt above his heart, leaning against a railing. Someone was at his side instantly, asking him if he was okay. He didn’t reply, face twisted in agony. He opened his eyes, looking strained, though he did watch as one of his gangmates brushed past his ‘helper’, swiping their wallet while their attention was stolen. Once they were long amonst the crowd, he straightened himself up, breathing deeply. "T-thank you, b-but I believe I’ll be fine."

Dawn was just heading to the vet's office to see Jane when she saw the gentleman lean against the railing. She automatically rushed to him. "Sir, are you alright? Do I need to take you to the hospital?" When he recovered a little, she let out a sigh of relief. The brunette hadn't realized yet that this was all just one big hoax. "You're welcome. Are you sure that you will be fine?"

Background:

Professor Potter installed the love for all creatures into his daughters at an incredibly young, resulting in the girls’ earliest memories consisting of nature walks and sleeping in hammocks out in the back yard. On occasions, Jane would fuss, but never Dawn. Dawn loved being outside, in the dirt, ponds, puddles, tidal pools, basically anything that made her feel like she was a part of that ecosystem and not a human that lived in a typical house with indoor plumbing. Even more so, she tried even harder to forget the fact she was a student. 

Dawn never exactly minded school, but she wouldn’t skip a beat at telling you what she could be doing instead of sitting through math, history, homeroom. She could have been out helping injured animals. For that exact reason, and her immense adoration for the world around her, Dawn decided at sixteen that she would become a veterinarian and travel the country helping animals that needed her help most. Her father and sister are her biggest fans, pushing her to pursue the dream and live up the animal activist name that her father started. 

Now at age twenty three, Dawn works as a veterinarian assistant at the shelter as she continues her degree to become a certified veterinarian. Though she wishes someone told her years ago just how long it took to pursue the degree, the classes required actually hold the ‘wild girl’s attention and fascinate her enough to have her up late every school night completing assignments to ensure top marks. As she gets closer to finishing the program, Dawn is realizing how hard it may be to leave her family. Until that anticipated and dreaded day comes, Dawn continues to take life one day at a time, helping animals to the best of her abilities. 

Dawn has no recollection of her life as an animal talent fairy of Never Land. But man, how cool would it be to smell like skunk all day and not be judged against!
