It’s okay to have relationship goals or career goals based off of someone else, but you really never know what struggles a person goes through to keep their happiness. There have been so many times that I have found myself being jealous of a friend because I felt like his/her life was going the way I always envisioned mine to go. There’s only one reason why I am not experiencing what I “want” and that is because God knows it is far from what I need in my life at this moment.
Since graduating from college, there have been soooo many eye opening situations that have occurred in my life (it’s officially a month today since I graduated, crazyyyyyyyy lol). Through all of these occurrences, some good and some bad, I have learned four things.
1. Things are never as they seem
2. Hard work and persistence are key
3. People will always form their own opinions.
4. Sometimes you have to let go of “good” things to make room for better things.
All of which ties back to the theme of the sermon preached at my Papa’s pastor appreciation program, “What is for you, will be for you.”
In life we do not always get what we want, but we have to be strong enough to realize that God has a plan for us and that His timing is the perfect timing. With that being said, you still have to do your part. So keep the faith, stay strong, and keep your eyes on the prize!
I leave you with this quote that Rob Hill Sr. posted on Instagram today,
“Maybe it’s not supposed to easy for you. Maybe you’re one of the rare few who can handle tough times and still choose to be a loving person. Maybe it’s going how it’s going because you’re built for it. Today, I went to go see the Cinderella movie and loved it and everything that it stood for. Throughout the movie there were several quotes that stood out to me, one of which I have quoted above, another of which was, “Have courage and be kind.”
Have courage. Never be afraid of a challenge. When life places an obstacle in front of you, see it through, knowing that the reward at the end will be worth it. We can be our biggest enemy at times, telling ourselves that we can’t do this and we can’t do that, but how do we truly know if we never try? Life is not solely about the trials and tribulations, it’s your reactions to these problems. Are you instantly defeated when something does not go in your favor? Instead of getting down always look for the silver lining in every hardship.
In the last year or so, I have found that I have discouraged myself from thinking that I was capable of doing certain things, such as winning and pageant or getting a government job, but why? Had I actually tried, who knows what could have happened, but at this point I will never know. Never be afraid to take risk because though there is a chance you may fail, there is always that chance that you will succeed.
Be kind. There are a lot of negative people out there in the world that will push your buttons and do you wrong in hopes to break your spirit. You have to be strong enough to hold your head up and still be kind because though the situation may be bitter, the fruits of your kindness will forever be sweet.
One of my favorite quotes referring to kindness is, “I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel” by Maya Angelou. That quote speaks for itself. Always be kind, even to those who are not kind to you.
