Say When/Laggies (Shelton, 2014) | a review

Keira Knightley impressed me, as did Chloë Grace Moretz and Sam Rockwell is as charming as ever.
This film was picked by James and I loved how it dealt with an unlikeable protagonist, however made them relatable at the same time. Her life is kinda a mess, but then, whose lift isn’t?
Although lighthearted, some moments really hit close to home and I was surprised by the emotional depth. This tone that was achieved really had me thinking about my own writing, and how I could improve it.
It wasn’t incredible, but I love movies like this and I think small, comedy dramas will always be my favourite type of film.
Slightly off topic, but after watching this I thought about how In a recent interview, Lorene Scafaria, (Director of Seeking a Friend for the End of the World, a film I have picked for the #52FilmsByWomen) stated that she’s worried the small, personal, comedy drama is a genre that is dying in film form and is instead moving to TV. She wants to keep making small movies and is worried about their future.
I hope movies like this keep getting made.
