Happy Birthday Landon
It's been 5 years since Dec 7, 2009. A date that nothing in my life could ever prepare me for, a date thats been hard on me ever since. My son Landon David McGlothlin was born into the world. He was beautiful! Thinking back, many of the events of the day were a blur, but holding Landon in my hands is something that will stick with me forever. My family was there, Jesse's family were all there, it was special. The joy from that day would to soon turn to tears. A few weeks prior at a routine ultrasound we found out that Landon had a rare heart condition called Hyper Plastic Left Heart Syndrome. Basically it meant that only half of Landon's heart would develop. Landon was born on Dec 7, 2009, he died the next day at our house with our two families there loving him. We were blessed to get to hold him and love him and now he lives in heaven with a couple of our grandparents. My sister even thinks he might be snowboarding this year or flying around hanging with my grandma and marmee.
I've learned quite a bit from Landon. It's been 5 years and I think it's time I share some of that. (warning I'm no expert)
First it takes time to heal and deal with the loss of a loved one.
Having a son at a young age will make you grow up in a hurry. Losing a loved one is never easy, but I think it's especially hard when you are young. I can say from experience that trying to drowned out or smoke out the hurt doesn't work. I have had many times in the last 5 years where i've been depressed, anti-social, unable to love, hard headed, lonely and down right nasty to be around for periods of time. I can say from living like this for too long that its no way to live. The people around me didn't deserve it, and I didn't deserves it. My sincere apology. Another lesson i've learned, it's impossible to move on from your past if you've never acknowledged or worked through the issues from your past. Im still working on it and I think this is a step in the right direction for me. I know if Landon were here today he wouldn't want me to be hung up and sad on his birthday, he would want me to celebrate, cause he would be awesome. I want to send my deepest thanks to my family and close friends that have always been there for me. Love you all so much. Also I want to thank the organization Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep for being there to take pictures for us, it's pictures like the one above that take me back to Dec 7, 2009 and make me smile, and feel blessed that I was able to hold and love someone so perfect, to perfect for this world. Miss you Landon, & Happy Birthday! 5 years old, dang time flies. One day we will meet again but until then I know you're in a perfect place.
Throwback to a few weeks ago waking up in the hills to a good cup of coffee.
Day 5 BW Challenge: Never stop exploring, Jake Guy Smith on a Safari in East Tsavo National Park, Kenya.
On Top of Saint Marry's Peak June 10, 2014. Montana has so much to offer in every season, this past summer was no exception, went out and made a few more turns high up in the Bitterroot Mtns.
Day 3 BW Challenge: Took this photo in Kenya at Mbewau Academy in 2013. It was incredibly inspiring to watch the kids play soccer with so much passion and joy. Everyone I met was so welcoming and loving, seriously willing to give you the shirt off their back.
Day 2 BW challenge: Flashback to another spring break, up north in Revelstoke, British Columbia !!
Day 1 of Black and White challenge: Cheers Hunter for the nomination. First photo is from a spring break trip to Washington, Hunter Meek warming up before going to ride some waves.
Big cheers to my ski dog and adventure buddy Hoko, always up for whatever from just hanging, to chasing me on my snowboard & mtn bike. It's been awesome watching him learn the past 6 months from chasing deer and trucks to still chasing deer but knowing that he can't chase them to far or I'll start to worry. Dogs are the best!!! Note last two photos by Lindsay Cantwell !! Stoked for more big pow days this next season with this powderhound and all you other powder people!! #Legitpowderhound
Going out for those Hucks a couple weeks ago!! #Montanagold
Wild flowers of summer: Shine, sparkle and dazzle!
Let the sunshine : ) smile for summertime!!
Three little birds and the Missoula skyline!
Moments from a long lost summer, this summer in fact. This weeks theme it's all about the sun and that beautiful light.
Rainy days in August??
Climbed Trapper peak a couple days ago with Blake, Evan and Nick. Made for a real memorable day climbing, skiing and swimming in the mountains. Moment of the day was riding Gem Lake Couloir, then taking a plunge into Gem Lake to cool off.
Climbed Saint Mary Peak yesterday with my boy Hoko. Incredible view of the Bitterroots and a couple nice turns on the descent made for a great morning.
