Witchsona Week 2019 Daily Art Challenge
Here’s the daily art prompts for Witchsona Week 2019, which takes place 21st - 27th January! This is for the artists out there that like a good challenge, most people just join in on the Week by drawing their witchsonas ;)
Monday: Your Witchsona
Fairly self-explanatory, draw yourself as a witch!
Tuesday: Flashback To Origins
How did you become a witch? Maybe show your first stuttering attempts at a spell, or the first time you realised magic was real?
Wednesday: Alternative Outfit
Your witchsona, but dressed differently! Maybe you’ve been invited to a very fancy Witches Gala and need to look the part? Maybe you’re attempting an experiment and using your messy work robes with the Heavy Duty Sigils?
Thursday: In The Wider Witching Community
Who does your witchsona hang out with, are you part of a coven? Or maybe you have a mentor or teacher you look up to? Do you have a witch rival? A lover? A sworn enemy???
Friday: Method Of Transport
Your witchsona on the move! Flying on a broom, riding a mythical beast, sprouting temporary wings? Maybe you just have an old motorbike that barely hangs together with duct tape and mending charms.
Saturday: Your Place Of Power
Where do you go to prepare and practice your spells? Are you a rural witch with a stone tower in the middle of the woods? An urban witch who has set up a lab in an abandoned building? Even a cramped worktop in a kitchen or a temporary pillow fort will do in a pinch
Sunday: A Magical Celebration
Maybe a formal coven ritual to mark the winter solstice? A big old party with magical indoor fireworks? That fancy gala we mentioned earlier but in more detail? Come celebrate the end of Witchsona Week with us!

Witchsonas: the What and the Why
“What actually is a witchsona though?”
A witchsona is simply a witch persona; it’s how you would imagine yourself as a witch, with magical powers and cool outfits and cute animal companions! Witchsonas, like any arty “-sonas”, are a way to think about yourself in a new way. They can look like you, but they don’t have to.
And it’s a common misconception that witches are all female! Witches can be any gender. There is some debate about the difference between a witch and a wizard, but personally when I think of wizards I think of strict rules of magic, tradition, dusty books, lofty ideals, spells to shape the future or to help the planets keep spinning, and Order with a capital O. Witches on the other hand, use whatever works or whatever comes to hand, post-it notes, don’t mind getting their hands dirty, down-to-earth ideals, spells to help people with backache or the harvest, and chaos with a small C and a knowing smile. Of course, those are just my own personal definitions, please feel free to use your own ;)
Why should I make a witchsona?
Apart from the obvious pure fun of it? Or to help with art practice? I think there’s also a mental health aspect to it.
As I said earlier, witchsonas can be a way to think about yourself in a new way, but more importantly its a way to think about yourself at all! Many people struggle with problems of self worth and self doubt, but a witchsona is a little bit of escapism that could help you explore what you like about yourself and/or what you do well! You literally end up celebrating who you are, even if it is just selected aspects of your self. That’s a great start to personal positivity, and if you take part every year, you can soon recognise the changes, the progress, the growth within you. (sidenote: please remember that healthy growth doesn’t always travel in a straight line!)
